Hey guys! I just checked here for the first time in eons, and was happy to read the last couple threads...so thought I'd start a new one for this week.

Sandra, how did the weekend in Tucson go? When is your Orlando trip? I think you told me, but I've forgotten. Tricia, I was happy to see your name in a sig -- I've been calling you "idril" in my head, LOL.

We're driving about 6 hours on Wed to North Carolina, to visit some relatives for Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to it, and I know everyone will really enjoy the munchkins. They've been easy travelers in the past (within reason), so I'm crossing my fingers that this trip is the same...

Most of you probably saw my post about Kevan's geneticist appt, and the various testing we're going to do for him...I've been fairly stressed about it. There's nothing worse than a doctor telling you something is wrong with your kid, you know? And if I'm being honest, I'm having a hard time because Nadia was fairly advanced cognitively, and did/knew all kinds of things early (colors, letters, numbers, U.S. states, planets, everything!) -- so I can't help but compare my little ones to her, and feel like they're really far behind. But, I know I'm being unfair to them.

Anyhow. Karina is obsessed with Brown Bear, Brown Bear these days, and brings it to me to read about 10,000 times a day. Both she and Kevan imitate me, sort of, when I say, "Nadia!" in a very stern voice, also about 10,000 times a day, LOL.

We've finally let them loose in the basement playroom, and they LOVE playing with the kitchen. I have to watch really carefully that nothing small gets eaten, but so far they're doing well with it. I was really glad to see that they'll both put food in pots, put the lids on, use various utensils, etc. I haven't seen much pretend play before now....I did get them the Step 2 50's Diner for Christmas, because Nadia is really irritated that they're messing up her kitchen. She's my little OCD child.

I got to escape for a few hours today, and went and saw Twilight (with ladybenz, Roman & Joel's mom who posts on First Year) -- anyone read the books? There are a few threads on the book board, but I'm not that obsessed, just enjoyed 'em. smile.gif The movie is pretty good, but didn't grab me like the books did.

Okay, I've blathered on enough....everyone please update!

well, becca, i read on FY that your road trip didn't quite go well, but i hope you had a nice thanksgiving dinner. you and kevan have been in my thoughts all week, wishing you the best on that front and sending good vibes your way.

hope all of you had a nice thanksgiving with your families. we don't really do thanksgiving dinner down here, though DH's aunt throws a BIG thanksgiving bash every year, and we always go pig out with her, but DH is out of town till tomorrow and i didn't want to go alone (since it's really like a social thing, not really a family event) and we had a regular thursday. so no awesome dinner here (and believe me, the desserts are the best part!)

Tucson weekend (first time away from the babies) went relatively well, we all survived. the kids have been super clingy this past week, crying whenever i leave the room, though (not sure if it's related or not). we leave for orlando january 3 (also my bday!) and will be away for a week--this was our test drive....

how bout the rest of you all?

Hi ladies... I'm a bit late to the thread... but figured I'd reply anyways. Thanksgiving here was great. The girls slept in a tiny bit, so I got to stay in bed until 7am. Then we all tumbled out of bed and went downstairs to watch the snow. We haven't had snow here in eons. I think we got two inches last year, so this is the first snow the girls really saw. They kept trying to tell my DH that it was rain. They're big into sign language and anything that doesn't have a sign is dismissed as not a word to them. So we had to go online and find the sign for snow. Once we did that they were interested and watched the snow for awhile. We built a fire in the fireplace - the first they've seen, so that was fun too. Piper kept looking at the fire suspiciously and every minute or so would look up at me and say 'hot'. Cricket inched closer and closer until she was about four feet away and then put her hands on her hips and leaned forward to stare at the fire. She then turned and pronounced 'no hot. warm'. That elicited a few chuckles from both my DH and me.

The rest of the day was mellow. We had fish for dinner with all of the typical Thanksgiving sides. I felt kind of un-American eating cod instead of turkey, but it was fresh from Alaska that morning at Whole Foods! And with only two of us, a whole turkey felt silly. We went over to a friend's house for dessert and watched 12 children run around screaming and yelling for an hour.

Nothing else really to report here. I think I'm coming down with a cold and I feel very sorry for myself.

Becca - good luck with the testing for Kevan. When do you go in to do the tests and get the results? I'm thinking good thoughts for you guys...

Tricia

PS. Becca, I love that you were calling me 'idril' in your head. It's a totally made up word but I like it and use it as my Internet name now whenever I have to sign up for anything.
