In the morning when I wake up, or if I've been sitting for too long, I get up and feel just really, really stiff & kinda sore. Is it just part of getting older? Do I need to take more vitamins??

Mine I blame on the twins! tongue.gif Shortly after they were born I was having trouble. Went to an orthopedist who diagnosed arthritis in my spine ohmy.gif . That effects my hips mostly but my legs sometimes too. Depends on how long I sit or lay in the same position. Getting older doesn't help though. I had great success with the joint health supplements but can't afford them right now while I'm in school. You bet I'll be going back on them when I'm running around a hospital next year! You could try those and see if it helps.

Well it could be many things. I take a lot of suppliments because I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. Im not saying you have this! But the stiffness could be onset ostio arthritis (Which can be very minor) to maybe some tendonitis. My suggestion to you (If you can), is first thing in the AM is get a hot shower in and take 2 aleve. Suppliments are always good. I take a multi, vitamin D for joints, a MOVE FREE, Folic Acid and Cranberry for general woman health.

I would go see the doc and let them know. Humidity plays a large roll. Some days Im minor in the morning, some I just can't move at all. There is much more involved with RA, like red sore, swollen joints.

Let me know if you have any more questions!!

First of all, MLW, I wub.gif Louis C.K.

Second of all, I notice that if I stretch out really well for a few weeks, it gets all of the stiffness and soreness out of my body eventually. Also, are you drinking enough water? Lactic acid can accumulate in your muscles and cause soreness/stiffness. Have you had a really good massage lately?

hmmmm, it makes me wonder about my hands. I never thought they were connected, but for years I've had pain in my hands that just comes & goes. It usually hurts mostly in my knuckles, but all my joints in my hands will hurt so bad sometimes that I could cry. I actually haven't felt that in several months, so I'm glad. If I have a couple drinks, I can guarantee my hands will hurt the next day. It's weird. Sometimes too much soda seems to aggravate it, too.

I have issues with waking up sore but I blame it on a crappy mattress that really needs to be replaced not providing proper support. I hope that's all it is.

I second what Bex said. When I take time to stretch in the morning and at night, goodness, I feel great. Take some of that time for yourself and get your blood flowing and your muscles relaxed. I don't know about the vitamins but I do know that you need to get moving and stretching. Good luck, keep us posted whatever you decide.

I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis and one of the symptoms is morning stiffness/pain. It might be worth a visit to a Rheumatologist, just to rule out RA..... I went a LONG time without a proper diagnoses. It took a really severe flare-up and being seen by the right specialist to finally put the symptoms together for RA. Now I am on a drug called Enbrel that has literally changed my life. I didn't know it was possible to feel so well everyday! I just thought everyone was swollen and tired and sluggish. Now, I am like a whirlwind. I get tons done, hop out of bed feeling wonderful, and am just so much more comfortable and happy. Modern medicine is amazing!

I have Fibromyalgia and wake up very stiff and sore in the morning, but it lingers all day when I am not medicated. I also stiffen up when I sit for awhile. I was tested for Lupus, RA, and some other things. I would also suggest seeing a Rheumatologist. I just saw my pain management doctor today and he is starting me on Lyrica. Hoping it works....

Just a little update: I saw a new chiropractor this morning for some lower back pain/tingling in my fingers that I've been dealing with for about 5 years now.......and he seemed to think my stiffness could be related to my spine being all out of place. So I'm anxious to see if seeing him is going to help. For anyone who's done this, any idea of how soon I should expect some improvement? Thanks!

Give it a few days to judge, was there any spot in particular that was really out that you can ice. I have to see my chiropractor regularly these days, it is amazing that if one part of your spine is out it can set other parts of your body that you would think couldn't be related. Good luck, still get those stretches in. You are on your way to feeling great again, that is fantastic!

I went again today & he said he kept thinking about my symptoms & how long I've had them & said it's possible I have RA. But he also said not to worry & it's only a possibilty; I'd have to be tested & I guess he doesn't think I should do that quite yet.

PS - when I asked what kind of preventative things I could do against it, he said walking & exercise. Does that sound about right?
