From: Federal Funding to Planned Parenthood to be cut

Leave Comment
Chrissy, thank you for posting the link to the petition. I signed and will send it on to everyone I can think of.

This is an outrage - for all the reasons listed in the wonderful posts from concerned women above.

The monstrous hypocrisy of the Republicans (not to mention the religious right) is truly frightening.

What I cannot understand is...

If You Lie Down With Dogs...

When you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.

Meaning, we have to understand that voting for either party will mean that we are inviting in the worst of their agenda as well as the best.

The same system of checks and balances which many people trust to protect them from religious persecution has done a far better job of protecting themr...

Why?

I think that it is becoming fairly clear, even just canvassing our own little community here, what the GOP machine hoped to gain by putting Palin on the presidential ticket. It was a sop to the religious right to make them give up the pretense that they were ever going to do anything other than vote for McCain. Putting the pro-guns, anti-choice,...

The Last Sad Chapter in the McCain Epic

Leave Comment
I like John McCain. I have liked John McCain from way way back; I was a fervent supporter in 1999-2000 and I was devastated and angry when he was robbed of the Republican nomination by the Bush machine. I barely slept for a week while the election debacle of 2000 dragged on and I watched in horror as a spoiled rich kid, a scion of an...

This blog post will actually be a partial rerun of the post I made in the Cornucopia thread, "More Questions for Atheists". I worked for a few hours on that post, so I think it owes me double duty! Image reduced in size...

What Would Jesus Do?

This is just a random quote from another thread in the cornucopia. I haven't a problem with any one person, since we've heard this same thing so many times, but it is a neat summary of something I find seriously wrong:

The Pharmacy Debate

The latest Cornucopia debate is an interesting one. Many people seem to see it as a straightforward case of one individual's (the pharmacist) rights against another individual's (the patient) rights. I do, too, but not in quite the same way. The problem is that we are not dealing with two private citizens in a dispute. We are dealing...

Racism: Is That All It Is?

Leave Comment
I think Cristina posted an interesting question this morning. I think it goes to the heart of the eternal problem of humanity. Racism is, in my opinion, only the tip of the iceberg of the deeper challenge of being human. The urge to group together against other groups we see as different seems to be a basic drive of human beings. Even within...
