We are using graco snugride. It says up to 29lbs I believe. My kids around 16-18. But they don't seem fit in those anymore. Especiallywhen they have jackets on (I already adjust straps). They also too long for the car seats.I already removed head supports. Their feet stick out which I think its okm right? So what should I do. Do we need new carseats? Those are expensive and we only use them like 6 months. Thanks

I talked to a carseat specialist, and they told me that a kid has outgrown a carseat when they reach the weight limit, OR when their head is above the plastic in the back. If their feet stick out the end, they said that doesn't matter as far as the safety. Do you have the straps in highest slot on the seat? There is a lot of room for adjustment. We had the same seat - Michael is 90th percentile for height and weight. We were able to adjust the straps for him just fine until he maxed out the weight on the seat and we went to a convertible seat. We had to do that at 7 months.

Yes, I did adjust straps in higher slots.I don't care much their feet stick out. But if they have jackets on, its so super tight and my daughter puked couple times. I will have to take a look at those again tonight. I really don't want to pay for new ones. Thanks

Also for safety reasons they arent suppose to be wearing coats or anything bulky in their seats. I know this posses a problem for us in the colder areas, what I warm up the car, take them out, put them in their seat and take off their coats. Mine are in convertables. When they were in their infant seats, I put a heavy blanket on them

When ours grew out of their infant seats we got 3-in-1 car seasts as replacements (rear-facing, forward facing and booster all in one). They are expensive but they will last a LONG time. My son is 3 and is still in the one we bought for him when he grew out of his infant seat at 5 months. We have the Costco Alpha Omega Elite and all 3 of them are in those now.

The pp is correct that they're not supposed to wear jackets and bulky clothes in their car seats. It's not safe because the straps may not be as secure as they need to be.

I had the same problem with my kids. They weren't at the weight requirement, but height wise they were getting there. I found the straps were getting kind of tight too. So we decided to get their next car seat (we got the britax diplomat) b/c we figured it needed to happen anyways and they are so much more comfortable now. We were about 8 months when we switched though.

There should be a long piece of extra strap on the back where you can loosen it a lot. You have to feed it through the metal bracket, which is a bit of a pain, but you should be able to get it plenty loose for them. Michael was 22 lbs when we took him out of his. 22lbs is the limit on most of the SnugRides, unless you have the newer SnugRide 35, which goes up to 35 pound.

Thanks. I will take a look tonight. I won't put jackets on them if they will be in carseats. But its such a pain. Ok take them out of the carseats then put their jackets on. I already see they would scream their heads off. Thanks ladies!

Have you been to this website? My link The car seat technicians there were very helpful in helping me picking out our next car seats and also dealing with fit issues.

I suspect the harnesses are not positioned right, because at that weight, they should still have plenty of strap left.

I use very thin fleece jackets or just put a fleece blanket on over them. It IS a pain, but what can you do? :tomato:
