Had ultrasound today that showed 5.5wks gestational sacs. Baby A was fine yolk sac normal and saw heart beat. Baby B had yolk sac but was half the size of other baby. Did not see any embryo but the sac measured 5.5 also. Another ultrasound is on Wed. Er doc said that I will absorb baby B. Is there Any chance that it will make it? I have had impacted bowel for over a week(finally was eliminated before u/s) and this is the first time we could actually see anything inside the sac because it was so squished. Has anyone have an experience like this? Any with a good outcome? I am heartbroken!

I have no experience, just wanted to say I am thinking of you and your babies. Keep us posted on what happens on Wed.

I was originally pregnant with identical twins and a fraternal triplet...however, I did not know I was pregnant with the triplet (original OB's ultrasound machine was not as high tech as perinatologist) until 10weeks, and it was just a sac (no yolk) and no heartbeat, it was absorbed later....I would say wait and see, a lot of women get results like your's and then go back later and there are 2 heartbeats! At 5.5weeks there is hardly much of the babies to see/hear (it is common to not even hear a heartbeat until 7 weeks from what my doctor told me). Also, you might want to see a perinatologist for a higher level ultrasound to determine more details. Thinking of you - good luck and let us know how Wednesday goes!

I would say at 5.5weeks its a bit early to get too concerned, I had an u/s that early and one didnt show a heartbeat that they could see at that point, went back two weeks later and they were both strong. It's possible.
    Please keep us posted!!

I am going to have another ultrasound on Wed. I have read about one baby being a little ahead. But the other sac was only about 50% of the other yolk it was right against the uterine wall with nothing below it, around it nothing. But I still hope. But have a bad feeling. Thanks to the replies I do not feel so alone!

I think 5.5 weeks is extremly early as well. I had one ultrasound at 6 weeks and at that point there was only 1 baby and 1 heartbeat. The second did not show up until I was around 9 weeks.

My scan today. One baby right on track, heartbeat at 112. Other baby tec did not even acknowledge. The yolk sac on baby b has grown and the same size as baby a.Did not even check for heartbeat My Pic

IS there anyway you can ask for another U/S?? I would be extremely ticked off that the tech didnt acknowledge baby B. That just isnt right.

This is where I'm confused. And if this is hard for you, I'm sorry. Did the tech move quickly on after determining that B is not viable? Did he completely ignore B? Did he try to get a heartbeat? To me (and I'm just a lady who had kids, NOT a professional or even well read) the fact that B had grown would warrant further investigation.

Please let us know, I've been thinking of you.

Did not check for heartbeat. Quickly moved on after not seeing a fetal pole. I mentioned that the yolk sac was only half the size of the other last week. She said nothing. I go to the doctor tomorrow and will ask for another in 1 to 2 weeks if nothing has happened that I notice with my body.

If there was no fetal pole, they can't look for a hb, so that might be why they moved on. Can I ask why your dr had you do another u/s sooo close to the other? Usually they wait a good week. In the early time each day is so important and can change so much. I hope that baby b is just a little behind baby a. Its not totally impossible for a fetal pole to appear. But the good news is baby a looks to be doing great!

I hope the drs are able to explain more to you. I hope you continue to have a healthy pregnancy!!!

Had ultrasound last night for adominal pain. The pain was comming from bowels. The tech was amazing! She checked all different kind of views to check on the fetal demise of baby b. Long an behold baby be had fetal pole and hb at 90. Baby b is 5wks and 6days. Baby a is 6 wks and 2days hb at 112! Do those hb sound normal range for gestation? I feel like I have been through heck and back. Just got used to the idea of just one. Everyone has been of great comfort and support for me. I have no one else to talk to about this.

I pray for the sake of your sanity and your babies, that you get a new doc ASAP! One that is more knowledgeable, communicative, and advanced.

You come on here and talk to us all you want! We're more than happy to provide you with some support. :)

I'll have to defer to the experts on heart rates, but WOO HOO!!! Congrats! Try to stay off google and keep your attitude positive. You can do this!!

As an aside, you might look into a peri (high risk OB). You should be able to get a referral from your current doctor. Maybe call today and request a referral? A peri will have better ultrasound equipment and techs, nurses, and assistants who are all well-versed in twin pregnancies. That will help eliminate a goof like you had this week. PLUS, they can start preparing you for all the twin pregnancy and delivery excitement that is now on the horizon.

    But, again, WOOO HOOO!!!! Congrats!!!

Anyone know what that blob in baby b sac is? Any seen it before? Tech was not worried. I am just curious.

The blob is the yolk sac isn't it? Usually looks like a halo above the baby. That hb shows that it probably just started recently which is probably why the earlier tech coudln't see it yet. At the end of 5 wks is when the hb starts so that makes sense. Looks awesome!!! I love u/s in the beginning but they add sooo much more stress sometimes I was jealous of those that didn't find out twins until later as some of the early stress was taken away!
    Congrats!

The hospital u/s are amazing! I don't know about the heartbeat, but I had an u/s at 9w and 1 baby was measuring much bigger than the other- I believe they were 3 days apart as well. Mine were di/di (don't share a sac or placenta) but are in fact identical.

I also second the peri recommendation- they have better equipment and are more versed in multiples.

my specialist never does an ultrasound before 6.5 weeks because it can take that long for a hb to be seen. Hang in there.

If you have specific questions about your US you need to ask your doc. The internet is not the best place for specifics like your personal ultrasound.

I'd have to agree with this, it wouldn't be good for us to speculate. That being said, ultrasounds have always been incredibly hard for me to read! ;) You need a peri, for sure!

?I am not sure. Maybe It looks like a lump but it is really just because of the angle? I had a fibroid with this baby that is no longer seen maybe you have one too?? I would take the picture to your OB and see what he/she thinks! With this pregnancy, at my first ultrasound at 5 weeks and a few days, we saw a heartbeat but I was told my sac was too small by the ultrasound tech. It freaked me out. when I saw the dr. He told me that the heartbeat is what he was interested in that sacs come in all shapes and sizes. I know it is hard but try to focus on that sweet little heartbeat!! have you told anyone in real life that you are expecting yet?

Gosh they have you going in for a ton of appointments! Is this doctor a peri? Honestly, I would get the referral to a peri and maybe not go to this doctor anymore. You're being overwhelmed with information at this point. I was high risk (twins, they were mono/di, and one had gastroschisis) and we were not seen this much at that stage of the pregnancy.

Let us know what you decide and how the appointment goes!

I just wanted to let you know, when I asked if you had told anyone IRL that you are expecting yet! I wasn't trying to be nosy!! I just hope you are not going through all of this alone!

Wow were these all transvaginal ultrasounds? That must be a really good machine to see heartbeats so early.

Congratulations, a twin pregnancy is like a roller coaster ride--scarry and fun all at the same time.

oh good! A HB on baby B, at that early it is very hard to see them both, with ours at 6 wks it was very hard to measure one of them because they were hiding behind the yolk sac, because of the angle, that might have been why the tech couldn't get it before, my tech was even surprised to find HB's on ours at 6 wks. I'll be thinking of you these next few weeks and I also agree a peri maybe the route to go to get some good answers and direction.
