Travel during twin pregnancy?

This is my first post, but I have been lurking for the last few months. I am having twins that are due 11/20 after IVF. I am 32 and this is my first pregnancy. Everyone's posts have been very helpful to me that last few weeks. But now I have a question I haven't seen an answer to in the most recent posts. My husband and I would like to take a short vacation, that would involve air travel, around week 15 or 16. My OB has said it was fine, but she is neither a high risk or multiples OB. She was highly recommended by my RE, but I still worry that she is treating me like a singleton pregnancy. Everything I have learned about multiples pregnancy I have learned from posts here and books that have been recommended here. So I thought I would consult the group. Do you think it is risky to travel at this point in a twin pregnancy? After two years of trying to get pregnant, I don't want to take any unnecessary risks....

How long of a flight is it? Where are you thinking of going?
I know my doctor let me travel at 24 weeks to Florida including a 4 hour car ride to Disney. I just had instructions to stop and walk every so often.

My doctor said no travel after 26 weeks (she stopped me at 28 weeks for my singleton). You should be fine, just remember to drink water and get up and walk around ever hour or so to avoid blood clots in your legs.

I traveled from MN to TX to Germany then back to MN all in 5 days (for work) when I was 12 weeks preg with twins,, after going through IVF. I talked to my dr and she said that she was ok with it. Just to remember to keep moving on the flight (reduce the risk of blood clots). I think she told me to take some baby aspirin before and after the flight, but you might want to ask your dr first. The trip was long and stressful(work related stress) and I was super tired but other than that is was fine.

I was told not to travel after 18-20 weeks with the twins. I was older than you (38) when I was expecting them. With my singleton, he didn't let me travel after 24 weeks. I think as long as you get up and take a stroll during the flight so you can get the blood circulating in your legs and drink lots of water, you should be okay at that point. How long is the flight, about 2 1/2 hours?

I flew from Edmonton to Quito, Ecuador when I was 17 weeks pregnant. It was a total of 24 hours of travel from the time we left Edmonton to when we arrived in Quito. I made sure to drink lots of water and bring snacks on the plane and get up and do leg stretches, exercises while in the air.

I had no problems, granted I did not know I was carrying twins at the time and I wonder if I had known it was twins if my doctor would have let me go on the trip or not. I think a two hour flight should be just fine as long as your doctor has given you the okay!

I have been put on house bedrest around week 10 of my pregnancy (after IVF also :)), and then I was released from the bedrest around week 13.
My doctor let me go on vacation around week 15 , she said it is better to go on shorter flights, since the pressure in the cabin is different from long haul flights.
She also recommended relaxing vacation, seating by the pool, no crazy shopping tours and hiking :) We went with my 2,5 old son to Disney World and there was a lots of walking involved, but I just took long breaks and tried to rest as much as possible.

I am very happy that we went, it is great time to relax before the babies come. !!!

    Enjoy!

Our OB has no problem or cutoff for flying until/unless he says otherwise. We're going to Vegas during week 15 and I'm trying to work out a surprise "babymoon" for DW around week 18 if I can manage it. We may also fly to MI (to visit my family) around week 24/25 if we're still cleared, but we'll check with the OB and book those tickets at the last minute to be safe.

I traveled from Chicago to the West Coast around 16-17 weeks and to Europe (in business) at 24-26 weeks without any problems. My pregnancy was very uneventful, had my cervix checked again right before I left, and I also had a successful first pregnancy without any signs of preterm labor (I delivered 9lbs+ 9 days late).

Hi, my OB and MFM both were okay with me traveling into the 2nd trimester. We went to Hawaii and to visit my family in the midwest. My OB didn't want me to travel in the 3rd trimester, and she recommended earlier in the 2nd trimester rather than later. In the 3rd trimester, they asked me to stay close to home (she didn't want me to deliver unexpectedly far away from home). They were right. I ended up on bed rest by week 24.
I'm sure you will be fine. Definitely take it easy and give yourself extra time to rest. I could do normal activities, but I wanted to rest more often.
    Have fun!

I flew from NJ to Florida twice during this pregnancy. My OB was fine with me traveling up until I hit 24 weeks.

Now having said that, I really recommend that you get some type of travel insurance. I was diagnosed with placenta previa right before our second trip and we almost had to cancel. Fortunately, it was a mild case and after the initial bleed, I was fine so I was cleared to go.

I flew f4rom Oregon to Boston with my 2 older kids and 24 weeks pregnant then back again 4 weeks later. Aside from being a bit uncomfrtable in those little seats, no problem at all.

    Have fun!!

My peri approved a trip to Switzerland at 17-19 weeks. (We flew from Denver via Frankfurt, so it was an overnight flight plus several hours travel time the next day.)

It turned out that was perfect, as that was about the only time during my pregnancy (say, from 15-22 weeks) that I felt well enough to undertake a trip like that. Within a couple of weeks after I got back, I started getting much more uncomfy and would not have enjoyed the trip at all.

So I say go for it as long as your OB gives you the OK. I did wear pressure stockings on the plane and made sure to drink LOTS of water, both on the plane and during the whole trip.

I would just be careful with walking a lot. The travel is ok but the walking once you are there should be minimal!

I'm also 32, pregnant with IVF twins, and this is my first pregnancy! My due date is 11/30. I'm trying to decide if I should travel in week 22 for a research conference where I'm scheduled to present some research. So, I'm worried about the travel (plane trip from Atlanta to Boston) and I'm also worried about the stress of presenting in front of a large audience. No matter how many times I do it, I'm always pretty nervous. Is the stress really worth it? I go back and forth on whether or not I should go or have someone else present for me. I guess I'm leaning towards the latter.

I guess every Dr. is different. My high risk OB said no traveling outside my state after 14 weeks.

I last travelled on a plane at about 16 weeks or so and I personally would not do it again at this stage simply because I would feel too bad if something went wrong. My anxiety was similar to yours (and I too have IVF babies). I think you should follow your gut and your instincts. Its likely that nothing bad will happen but if you have real anxiety about it then its probably not worth putting yourself through that.

My OB had said flying would be ok as long as everything in my pregnancy was going well (this was for a planned trip from MD to CO at 26 weeks). Well, everything WAS fine before I went, but it was once I was there that I started having problems. My only recommendation would be to not go somewhere that has a vastly different altitude than where you live (I went from sea level to 9000 feet - bad idea in hindsight). It sucked being in a L&D far from home and husband! I got on a flight the very day they let me out of the hospital and went home. I was soooooo relieved just to be home - even though it meant I missed a shower my mom had been planning to have for me in Colorado.

I am going to Disney in a week, when I'll be 13 weeks pregnant. I asked both my RE and OB after finding out it was twins, and they both gave their blessing, as long I as I pay attention to my body -- like sit and rest when I'm tired -- and drink lots of water. We're driving to Disney (two day trip from CT with one overnight hotel stay) and we plan on stopping a lot to stretch our legs. And I plan on taking advantage of the pool at the hotel too, which hopefully will help with any swelling I might have from the heat.

We decided to go on this trip somewhat spontaneously when we found out I was pregnant because we knew it would be the only time we would be able to take DD6 at this time in her life, when she will appreciate it... So we just decided to suck it up and go early in the 2nd trimester. Hopefully the morning sickness will go away even more than it has by then!

You'll probably be showing by then, so go ahead and milk it! Ask the airline if you can prebook a bulkhead seat (more leg room) or at least get one near the bathroom (LOL for all that water you'll be drinking) and do the pre-boarding (going in first, when they call for anyone who needs extra assistance). And make sure you have lots of time at the airport, so you don't have to rush.

I think it is normal in modern world! There are many travel agencies which can help to do your trip amazing.

Pregnancy is a difficult period for a woman, if you are pregnant with twins, then you are twice as difficult. In this article https://www.icydays.org/06/26/2019/204/ you will find more information about pregnancy and you can find useful tips to help you make this period more comfortable for you. I know that now you are worried about a lot, but believe me, you will still be sad for the time when you were pregnant, so enjoy it!

  24. If you feel well, then why not? With necessary precautions of course.

Well, it is risky, it is something that I tell people who come to the tourist voucher russia visa to process it. I hope they understand that pregnancy is something delicate and, above all, we hope that people will understand that soon these situations will understand that they should not be due to pregnancy. traveling so much for the delicacies of pregnancy
