Is there anyone on BP medicine. Ive had high blood pressure and never have been on medicine for it, didnt have insurance before. Well now that im pregnant my dr is sending me to my high risk dr. just to have a consultation and to get on blood pressure medicine, since I should have been on it before I was pregnant. Im kind of nervous to go on the medicine. I know its for the best and its what I need. Anyone have advice or imforamtion about being on pb meds.

I took Aldomet for my entire pregnancy - it is completely safe for PG women...they say that it can cause a bit of IUGR but it kept my bp under control until I was nearly 36w...

IUGR = Inter Uterine Growth Restriction

I don't know if this is an option but I was taking Procardia 4x a day when I was pregnant for early contractions but if memory serves me right it also works as a bp medication as well.

Procardia is actually used to lower BP and to treat angina, it just so happens that it also works to relax the uterus and stop contractions.

I was already on BP meds while trying to get PG so the doc switched me to Aldomet (generic Methyldopa) and kept me on it...

I was on 750 mg of methlydopa 4x a day the last two months I was pregnant with the twins. I wasn't on any bp meds before. It worked really well and after they were born I never had to take it again.

I was going to recommend procardia as well. I was on it for ptl but tend to have high bp when pg and the pg that I was on procardia (my oldest ds) was the only pg I didn't have high bp.

I took the methyldopa too and was taking it prior to getting pregnant for familial hypertension. (Yay genetics!) Take it, take it as directed, and do not miss any doses.

Thank you all so much. Im prob going to be put on medicine once I go to see the high risk specialist. My dr said that he will prob prescribe me the medication. I should have been on it prior to being pregnant so I'm hoping this only helps me get as far as I can with this pregnancy.
