For my girls, I am thinking of getting the Calico Critters house and fox family and bunny family.
I'm thinking about some dress -up clothes, shoes, stroller, the play birthday cake by Melisssa and Doug, and maybe an indoor small trampoline.
    Maybe some new musical instruments.

I forgot about that! I just ordered one of those too! Thanks!

I also got them some new Hannah Andersson backpacks. They have some cute ones on sale for $10.

I'm actually done with bigger things for them then. Like you I now need to get the little things. Especially because we also do gifts for the eight nights of Hanukkah.

We turned 3 early in October. I had a hard enough time figuring out what to get for their birthday and so have yet to do anything for Christmas. Some birthday items that were hits:

-Melissa & Doug Standing Easel: my SIL bought this and it has been great fun. Tray for supplies on both sides and way to hang paper on each side, too.

-GeoTrax train set - DS more than DD but she likes it, too.

Some things I'm thinking I might try:
    - basketball hoop
    - costumes for dress up - hope to hit Walmart tomorrow since all the Halloween stuff will be marked off
    - decorations/pictures for their rooms
    - more GeoTrax track
    - Leap Pad games - our neighbor gave us one of these that their child had outgrown but the games we have are a little too old for us.

We went to an awesome local toy store today and I also have some more ideas:

    - Play food by Melissa and Doug -- they have some really awesome wooden food sets
    - Play piano (I think we need to get one for Jade)
(Actually, many hours after leaving the store I asked them each separately what their favorite things were in the store and Melissa said the food, and Jade said the piano -- not surprising for either of them)
    - Lacing cards
    - Hippity Hop balls
    - Dollhouse stuff
    - Imaginetics
    - Tumbling mat

Oh, this store was so good.

And things we have that I would suggest for others:

    - Good xylophones
    - States, universe and world puzzles
    - Cash register
    - "What" and "Why" cards by Super Duper (if you are not familiar with this company, they have tons of great educational games and toys for this age)
    - Dress up stuff
    - Trucks and cars

    Great ideas!

I was just at a craft show and bought a few more of these puzzles - the boys have a spelling set (not pictured) that has lasted great over the last year. She also will print pix and has a cool layered effect that I thought might be fun for the grandparents who like to do puzzles.

We love everything VTech, they recently got the Alphabet Town board that they really love - we have it in the car, and they are both turning into ace spellers

We're looking for some durable vehicle, but not sure - we live WAY in the country with no hard surface, just grass and gravel. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I was away in a big city this past weekend and went to a toystore--And bought CANDYLAND! I'm so excited to give it to them, I don't know if I will be able to wait until Christmas. I loved it as a child, and this is the Dora edition for the four player pieces are Dora, Diego, Boots and Backpack. I can't wait to play it with them.

Diane, my mom is buying those for the girls now. I checked them out after reading your post, and since every review highly touted them, I figured that they are too good not to buy. Thanks for the recommendation, can't wait to see how the girls like them.
