Now that I've gotten over basically being called a liar, I'd like to thank Jenny and others who have come to my rescue. :D

And for the record... just plain dark chocolate is the true path to enlightenment and inner peace.

:bow2: and to anyone else who thinks the same way.

And yet, you have only offered 'proof' to Sharon which is contained within your Bible. Do you have anything else which proves Jesus is the Messiah? Because there is one equally strong account (as in a written word) that Jesus is not God or even the Son of God.

Can you also prove that account to be false without using your Bible verses to back up your claims?

Which account are you referring to?

You know that there are other religious books that are said to be the word of God that aren't the Bible, right? Like the Koran. How come that book, being that it is the word of God, doesn't convince you that Islam is the correct religion and truth path to God?

My guess would be that you don't believe that the Koran is the word of God. Well, I don't think Sharon believes that the NT is the word of God either. I'm so confused on why this is hard to understand.

I'm an atheist. Using the Bible to try and prove that their is a God is NEVER going to work with me.

I am taking a College class about the Synoptic Gospels, and one of the things I am learning is the differences between beliefs of Judaism and Christians. I thought this was fitting...and hope to learn more. :) I hope this is a correct list, and if it isnt..I am sorry and mean no harm.

    JUDAISM
    - says that no human can ever die for the sins of others
    CHRISTIANITY
    - says that Jesus died for the sins of mankind

    JUDAISM
    - says that all humans are born pure, and innocent
    CHRISTIANITY
    - says that all humans are born with 'original sin'.

    JUDAISM
    - says that 'God' would never allow/enable a 'virgin birth'
    CHRISTIANITY
    - says that Mary gave birth, though a virgin

    JUDAISM
    - says that no man gets a 'second coming'
    CHRISTIANITY
    - says that Jesus will have a 'second coming'

    JUDAISM
    - says that every human should speak directly to G-d
    CHRISTIANITY
    - Jesus claims in the 'new testament' that the 'only way' to G-d is via him

    JUDAISM
    - says G-d is one, indivisible cannot be separated into three aspects/incarnations
    CHRISTIANITY
    - speaks of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

    JUDAISM
    - says that we are ALL equally 'God's children
    CHRISTIANITY
    - says that Jesus was 'god's son' above all others

    JUDAISM
    - has no concept of 'hell'
    CHRISTIANITY
    - *some* Christians non believers to 'hell'

    JUDAISM
    - has no 'devil', the Jewish 'satan' is just an ordinary angel, under G-d's control
    CHRISTIANITY
    - describes 'satan' as a devil and 'fallen' angel

    JUDAISM
    - the 'messiah' will be a normal, mortal man who must fulfill all the Jewish messianic prophecies in one normal, mortal lifetime
    CHRISTIANITY
    - Jesus was the 'messiah' and will fulfill the prophecies when he 'returns'

    JUDAISM
    - says that the righteous of ALL faiths will reach 'gan eden' or 'garden of eden'.
    CHRISTIANITY
    - *some* Christians insist that only those who 'know Christ' can reach heaven

    JUDAISM
    - forbids Jews from trying to convert anyone to Judaism
    CHRISTIANITY
    - believes in actively 'witnessing' and encouraging people to convert to Christianity

Clearly the two religions differ on many core beliefs. Again, remember there are many other differences; this is only a partial list.

Brandy, thanks for posting. That is true as far as I know. Maybe it will help some Christians better understand the point of view of Jews, and especially why it bugs us so much when someone is always trying to "convert" us.

I always thought it was silly to try and prove God's existence. You either know or ya don't know, ya know? (But it does make for fabulous conversations.)

I know there are other religious books, caba, I was asking which one Anne was referring to...

I believe Jesus is mentioned in the Koran as a wise, holy man but he was not the Savior of mankind. I tried to google some info about it and kept running into garish websites made to convince Muslims to join Christianity.

Yes both Muslims and Jews believe that Jesus was a Prophet or Rabbi.

    .

I was referring to the Qura'an in which Jesus is very clearly present. Not as the Son of God, or God himself, but as a prophet. Also Masih Isa (I think Messiah derives from that). But in the Quranic context it means "Anointed One" or "Chosen one." Not Son of God or God.

Hey is it not funny that a thread about hindu-ism gets morphed in Jews-Vs-Christans :D

I agree! I don't have time to look up the scriptures b/c Megan is crying and I need to get her and Grant some lunch, but I will look them up later and get back to you.

 Yah I have an Aunt K that is very persistant about her beliefs...her way is the only way. She has told my mom and I that we are going to Hell b/c we are not "real Christians" (Whatever that means). I have yet to tell her this, but I am tempted to say "See ya there"!

Thanks for posting these, Donita! :)

Thanks, Sharon! I never knew what the Jewish beliefs were on this! :)

    Exactly!

Yes, but you need to state your desire to convert, and be turned down 3 times before conversion can begin. This comes from the Book of Ruth.

I just want to add that there are Christians that don't believe Mary was a virgin. They (myself included) believe this because in the OT there was a mistranslation.

Just what do you have against canned worms? I know they're not as good as fresh, but sometimes you just have to be happy with what you can get. :pardon:

I prefer frozen worms, they're almost as good as fresh but last longer and have a much better flavor than canned.

(That is a sentence I never imagined typing.)
