My girls won't drink water

My girls do not like water. Since we weaned them from the bottle 2 months ago, they take one sip of water from their cups and throw it down and leave it there. (We leave their sippy cups out all day so they can drink whenever they are thirsty). I consistently try to offer it so they get used to it, but no luck, they refuse.

The only things we give them to drink are milk and 100% juice (I do dilute the juice with half water, sooooo....they get a little more at least!) But plain water they just refuse. I didn't like water as a baby either and my mom said I would not drink it so she always gave me something else. It's not going to hurt them if they don't drink plain water, right? As long as they aren't drinking tons of sugary drinks (we don't give them soda, tea, anything like that.)

My babies wouldn't drink water either at first. I would put a splash of apple juice in it and they would drink it. Now they will drink water but it has to be cold. I would just put a tiny bit of juice and see if that works.

I don't think it's going to hurt them. My two won't drink juice. They'll only drink milk or plain water.

Try putting in a splash of juice in water. And ice cubes. My two will drink anything but they especially like ice water with a splash of juice.

No it's not going to hurt them. I'd dilute the juice more than you are though, at the age your girls are I'd only give one part juice to 4 or 5 parts water.

I agree with the others, put just a bit of juice and more % water. :good: I'm sure they'll be fine, but water is good for them.

Im with everyone else a tad of juice and mostly water. as the days go on decrease the juice and increase the water.
My 2 also love ice cubes in their ice cold drinks :)

I played around with temperature when first introducing water and found that they ONLY like ice cold water. Maybe try that, or warm water? Good luck! I am sure they will eventually drink it.

Mine won't drink water either. I always give them either milk or juice in their sippies. Occasionally they get Kool Aide.

I agree with the others, just add a splash of juice. Mine are still fooled by 1/4 juice, 3/4 water as being "juice". Also try the ice cubes too, might make it more appealing.

Have you tried room temp water? One of my girls did not like cold water at first. It took my girls a while to start drinking water, now they drink close to 2 cups a day.

We bought special water bottles from Wal-Mart that are for water only and since DH and I have them the babes want them as well and now they drink about 18oz of water per day plus whatever they get in the juice since we dilute it 50/50.

I'd try using a special cup that is obviously different from their other cups and use it ONLY for water. This way, they aren't expecting something else when they drink from that cup. And I agree with the others who said ice is a great novelty to entice them if you haven't used it in their other beverages.
