What age did you start and try to let them use their own utensils?  We have always done BLW, so they are not too familiar with spoons - they will eat from our spoons if we offer them.  I gave them yogurt this morning with their fingers - a bit messy to say the least! :db:

Ha! I started serving Emmett's food with a spoon or fork around 12 months. I would say in the last month or so (he's almost 2) he's actually attempted to use them as intended rather than just play with them. More often then not thought he still just eats with his hands. Heck, some meals, my five year olds still forego utensils.

It helps if you can sit and eat with them. Then they can watch what you do and will learn from that. :)

I have been leaving a toddler spoon or fork on the twins' trays for a few months now.  They both try to use them properly with some (limited) success but prefer to use their fingers.  I don't do BLW per se but they get table food and I help them as little as possible.
