Whiney 2 yr old girls!!!!!!

Help!!! I don't know what to do.

My girls whine constantly. But only if I'm around. If they're at daycare, or home alone with DH, or my mom, or MIL they're fine. But the minute they see me it whine, whine, whine.

Brooke won't even ask for stuff anymore. She goes straigh into whining and crying and then when I tell her to calm down and tell me what she wants she'll tell me.

The thing I don't understand is I don't feed this behavior. I have always tried not to reward them for whining and crying if they don't get their way, so why is it getting worse???

It's almost like it's a goal now to get me to give in to the whining.

I'm getting so frusterated with them.

Please, if you have any ideas to help us out, i would appreciate it.

Just prior to that age, we instigated a "calm down time" rule for crying and whining. We don't make a big deal about it or call it a time out, we just say "I think you need to go sit in your room until you calm down/can use your big girl voice". They actually go and don't make too much of a fuss. I also demonstrated what whining sounded like (not in a mean way, but just illustrating normal talking vs. whining so they were more aware what was acceptable).We were really consistent with it (both DH and I). Now we get the occassional whine when they are tired or hungry, but we've never had a big problem with it.

 

My girls seem to do that whining and crying when something doesn't go their way, they start to whine and cry and it just simply gets on my nerves. I'm going to try the calm down time thing. I'm not sure how well it will work. But, it's worth giving a try.

I do the same thing. Zack has to go in his sisters room (his is downstairs) and when he is done crying or whining he can come out.
