A friend of mine is having twin boys and Im putting together a gift basket of all my favorite (small, affordable) items.
Id love any suggestions you can contribute! So far this is what Ive bought:

a nice basket to be used again in the nursery (and pack all this stuff in)
wet ones wipes for on the go
travel size box of all the soaps/lotions
    1 package of preemie diapers
1 package of the baby washclothes that just have to have water put on them, already have soap in them
    Jelly bellies (for the mama)
Get maternal tea (for the mama)
    .......

Maybe a few small books? I'd give you favorites but I'm sure you have your own. Books have been great for us from the beginning...I would sing Sandra Boynton's Snuggle Puppy to them when they were so tiny and I didn't know what else to do to make them happy! Now we read like crazy so books are my favorite gifts!

A jar of good bum cream? We used loads of that at first.
A gift card for a coffee shop like Dunkin Donuts? I got one as a gift and it came in very handy.
I wonder now if there is a handy chart we could have put on our fridge to tell us at what temperature we should give medication and at what temperature we should consider the er. We were always flipping through the pages of our caring for baby book to find this information.
On the same sort of topic, a cheap magnetic dry erase board is great. We write down the name of the child, the time, the temp. and the dose. If it's a tummy bug we use the board to keep track of who did what and at what time. It really helps you to see if the babies are getting better or worse.

Hylands teething tablets... she will need them sooner or later and be very happy when the day comes she needs them immidiatly. It wasn't fun having to wait for the store to open to go buy them... :p

Maybe some soft knit caps for when they first come home?

I know we constantly had to use saline nose drops since our gals were stuffed up for a couple months after birth.

Well all my suggestions are pretty much taken!

    My favs would be:
    links
    lullaby cd
paci clips (preferably with the metal clip, the plastic ones suck and the metal are hard to find)
Ziploc bags...they work for everything from medicines in the diaper bag, extra paci's, spare clothes, food, dirty clothes...etc.
Diaper bags, the ones with the holder that clips to the diaper bag. I prefer the soft holder rather than the hard one, it's more squishable.

I think im to sarcastic to answer this question

a cheap bottle of perfume to spritz on her self since she wont be able to find time to shower
mouth wash since she wont remember to brushed her teeth that morning
some concealer to cover up the bags from the sleepless nights
and a trashy magazine so she can laugh at someone else's life and remember hers really isn't all that bad right now

.... well i guess the other ladies had good ideas too :D

This thermometer! An absolute must-have, I've tried several and this one is easy to use, read and accurate! Also, what about a squeeze tube of vaseline (great for the newly circumcised little boy and many other ailments)and individual alcohol wipes for cleansing. I couldn't live without my Gerber mini baby nail clippers.

One of the best gifts I got was a basket of medicines. It was (and is) wonderful not to have to run to the store at midnight because the babies are having their first fever or tooth or such.

    My basket had

    Tylenol
    Motrin
    Mylicon
    Teething Tablets
    Vicks Baby Rub
    Nose Sucker
    Nail Clippers
    Tweezers
    Forehead Thermometer
    Medicine dropper paci (wonderful!)

    It was really great!

I love all the suggestions everyone has already made. I would suggest a bottle of Mommy's Time Out wine and also this poem. One of my favorite "twin things".

I LOVE those Medela steam/sanitizer bags. Someone gave me one-I didn't even know they existed. They are quick, and easy and each bag can be used 20 times!

Great ideas ladies! The one item we can't live without right now is the battery operated snot sucker (that is what we call it) made by Graco. It is a must have!
