| (Originally posted May 29, 2001)--Diane is now officially on maternity leave as our OB-GYN told us last week that she needs to start resting for our twins delivery--when that will happen is still anybody's guess.
The good news is that everything continues to go well. All doctor's signs show that the babies are still growing at good paces, there are good levels of amniotic fluid and Diane is still able to move about without too much discomfort.
Earlier today we had our last full ultrasound. As of today (35 weeks, 5 days), Baby A is at 5 lbs, 9 oz., and Baby B is at 6 lbs, 3 oz. So that means that in the last four weeks, Baby A grew 1 lb, 14 oz. and Baby B grew
2 lbs, 1 oz. Baby B continues to be a little bigger, but at least they are both growing at about the same rate. All along, our goal was to get to 36 weeks and to have six-pound twins so we're just about there!
At this point, the prescribed partial bedrest is for precautionary measures. We're about to begin Week 36 of the pregnancy, full-term for most twins, and our doctor wants Diane off her feet as much as possible to let her store up energy for the pending labor.
During the bedrest, Diane is going to relax and read a pair of books on breastfeeding. One book, 'The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding', is a general guide but doesn't have much on breastfeeding twins. But she has also studied the essay we have online at twinstuff on breastfeeding twins and we just ordered the book 'Mothering Multiples: Breastfeeding and Caring for Twins or More' from Amazon.Com. You can read an excerpt from this last book at this web page.
The book should arrive any day. Hopefully she'll be able to get through both books before our twins are ready to be born!
