Safe Sandbox?

My husband, Paul, and I are in the midst of some major backyard planning for our twosome. Bouncing around in our heads (and slowly making their way to paper and then to fruition) are ideas for a play house, sandbox, swings, and countless other toys that we hope to build or buy over the next few years. The biggest obstacle in our dreams is money- this stuff ain’t cheap! Sandboxes and swing will wait while a playhouse is built this summer.

Imagine our excitement (because, seriously, I don’t think my girls were excited like we were excited) when Paul found a lidded sandbox under our shed! One sunny afternoon of scrubbing and it was as good as new. Just a few days later Paul told me that he picked up some sand and that we could present our new toy to Alexis and Samantha that weekend.

A Review of the MyPreemie App

I’m really excited to share a review with you today of a new app that has recently been released for Apple devices- the MyPreemie app.

I’m sure many of you are familiar with Preemies: The Essential Guide for Parents of Premature Babies by Dana Wechsler Linden, Mia Wechsler Doron, and Emma Trenti Paroli. When my girls were born at 30 weeks, UNC Hospital actually gave us a copy of this book as a free resource. I read it in days. Those weeks of new medical jargon and watching our girls’ premature development were overwhelming and mentally exhausting, but I felt very empowered with the information in that book. Without it and the NICU forum, I doubt that we would have graduated from the NICU with my sanity intact.

Word of this app has been circulating among the NICU teams here in eastern NC and one of my girlfriends immediately thought of the Twinstuff community when she read the press release! I’ve emailed back and forth with Dana Wechsler (a fellow twin mom!) and she graciously agreed to let me review the app for our members. Continue reading →
