When Should Twins Stop Bathing Together?

Happy siblings: Two little twins children playing together with water by taking bath in bathtub at home. Kid boys having fun together.

Parents are curious to know when their twins should stop bathing together because it’s a question that has no scientific answer.

The question is posed because of societal norms and concerns of privacy, but the answer is still important because it leads to more queries about how it will affect their children in the future.

Twins have a unique bond because of their age and biological connection, but when should twins stop bathing together without affecting that bond in a negative way?

Twin Bathing VS Singleton Bathing

For singleton siblings, age is a factor because of the gap and the difference in gender.

For example, moms are wondering at what age should they separate their three year old and six year old during bath time. Others are asking when they should separate the baths of their boys and girls.

For twin siblings, age is only a factor when they are getting too old to take baths together. Parents of fraternal boy and girl twins are also wondering when the separation should start.

twins bathtub

Both sets of parents then ask the following questions that stem from their children bathing together:

  • Is it still appropriate for the kids to bather together at (X) age?
  • What will happen if they continue to take baths until they grow older?
  • This other mom said I should separate them from bathing at (X) age. Is she right?

These questions are all subjective, but come from a place of good intention. Children have milestones and bathing alone is one of them. For twins, you may find it a bit more difficult to separate them because of their similar age and possibly stronger bond.

At What Age Should My Twins Stop Bathing Together?

There is no specific answer to this question, but there is a guideline.

According to Debra W. Haffner, M.P.H., F.S.A.M, you can begin to consider the idea of separating your children during bath time when they start to become curious about their bodies. She says this usually starts during the preschool years when children start to ask questions about their environment and themselves.

It is also important to consider whether your children want to stop bathing together. At some point, they will start to learn about wanting their privacy during bath time. They will develop this need once they start to talk to other children and adults about their situations.

How Do I Explain Bath Privacy to My Child?

When they ask you about it, you should take it as a teaching moment and give them a short lesson on why it’s okay to stop bathing with their siblings. You should talk to their other sibling as well, as they may see it as a negative event.

“Why won’t my sister take baths with me anymore? Did I do something?” That’s an easy question to answer, but a hard one to hear. You just have to teach them the same thing, preferably together at the same time so they can engage each other and ask questions together.

What If They Don’t Want Privacy Yet?

Some children who bathe together won’t develop their need for privacy yet, but instead, they will start to ask about their bodies.

This is a time for you to teach them another lesson about being comfortable with your own body and respecting boundaries on someone else’s.

As they grow older and more curious together during bath time, you may want to continue to supervise them until such a time that they want you to stop watching them bathe together. This means that they developed a need for privacy from you.

At this point, it is important that you teach them about the proper way to bathe together and the do’s and don’ts. Unsupervised bath time may lead to children touching each other out of curiosity, which could lead to confusion when they are older.

How often should you bathe a baby?

What If I Want My Twins to Stop Bathing Together?

As a parent, you have the right to raise your twins however you want (provided it’s within the confines of the law) and the right to decide when to set boundaries.

If you want your children to stop bathing together, you cannot do it immediately. You cannot decide one day that they should have separate bath times. You need to do this slowly and informatively so that they do not see it as a negative action against their relationship.

Here is what you can do:

  • Set a Milestone
    • Decide on an age when you will start to separate your children from bathing together. Choose their age based on what’s comfortable for both you and them. A good time to separate them is when they start school because that is when they will start to develop curiosity and privacy needs.
  • Talk to Your Twins About It
    • Once you decide when they should bathe separately, bring your twins together and tell them why they will start to have separate bath times. Don’t lie to them and say that it’s a rule because it’s not. Many siblings bathe together until they are older without any negative side effects. Instead, tell them that it is a time for them to learn how to bathe and clean themselves up on their own.
  • Be Ready for Some Resistance
    • With twins, you can expect that they might not be happy with the situation. Bath time has become a fun and enjoyable moment of the day and you seem like you’re taking it away from them. They want to play together and bathe together, but you’re putting a stop to that. In order to convince them that this is a good thing, tell them that learning to bathe separately will teach them how to become more independent and self-sufficient. Children like being in control of their situations, so if you give them autonomy with how they handle their hygiene, they may accept the situation more easily.
  • Don’t Force It If They Don’t Want To
    • It may be difficult to accept, but some kids just aren’t ready to be separated yet with their siblings. This usually happens when they are still toddlers and think that bath time is more important than growing up. If that is the case, you can continue to supervise them until a time that they start to develop their privacy needs.

Being a parent means having to make decisions for your children. However, with milestones, it is best to work at it together and not command your kids to do what you want.

If you truly believe that it is time for your twins to have separate bath times, you should talk to them until they feel comfortable with the new arrangement. Do you have any other questions? Ask us and we will do our best to answer.

Early Pregnancy Symptoms with Twins

One of the more common questions during twin pregnancy is how large/heavy your twins should be, and what is considered normal. We have published on this topic before in more detail.

However, we thought we would ask our community of new parents of twins about what their newborn twins weighed.

We asked: “What was your twins’ birthweight and height?”

Below are the responses we got. Please keep in mind this is a small survey and should not be considered as medical fact. Also any ~ means this information was not provided.

Twin Pregnancy Support Groups: When and Why You Should Join

0
Twin Pregnancy Support Groups

One of the best pieces of advice I could give you as you take this wonderful journey called twin pregnancy is to find a support group or a club near you. Joining one, even an online community of expecting mothers can be really helpful.

Sure, you can always call your doctor or midwife every time you need to ask something that bothers you because they are used to it.

There would be times that you need an instant answer to ease your worries and it is too late to call the doctor’s office or no one is there to entertain your call.

The best option is to turn to other pregnant women who have experienced the same struggles, stresses, worries, and anxieties for some reassurance to ease your mind.

twinstuff logo

When do you need to join a support group?

There is no specific time as to when you should join a support group. The decision is entirely up to you.

Some women start to look and join a club or online community when they begin trying for a baby. While others join as soon as they find out they are pregnant. Sometimes, it also helps to join a specific group that is in the same situation as you are.

For instance, if you are pregnant with twins or multiples, it is better to join a twin pregnancy support group than a regular group for expecting mothers. That way, you can get the best answers and solutions to questions and problems that you are worried about from other mothers of twin support groups.

What will twin pregnancy support groups do for me?

Aside from what has mentioned above, there are other obvious reasons why you should join twin pregnancy support groups. Here are some of them.

  • You just got pregnant and what’s more? You just found out you are carrying twins! How wonderful! When to share the news and who to share it with is up to you. But for some women, it is too early to share the news with friends and relatives at this stage of pregnancy. The next best option is to share it with other women who are going through the same journey.
  • It is like getting the best of both worlds. They will understand why you want to keep your pregnancy hush hush at the moment, but you can share it with the group and they will celebrate the great news with you.
  • Immediate reassurance and answers to questions that are currently bothering you. For example, it would be reassuring to know that what you are experiencing at the moment is normal or if it is something to worry about just by hearing other experiences of expecting mothers of twins or multiples.
  • You can also get contact details and information about medical professionals and specialist near your area. If you are a first-time mom of twins, you will find this very useful.
  • Access to great resources such as books, magazines, club library, and videos about twins and multiples. You will learn a great deal about your situation, useful tips, and other helpful information about how to have a safe pregnancy. They also hold events where they invite guest speakers, professionals, and other experts to educate or give talks about anything pregnancy-related and child rearing.

  • Opportunity to land good deals on new or slightly used baby products such as twin carriers, strollers, diaper bags and more. The cost of having a baby is not cheap. This can save you some cash to spend on other important things. Some clubs even hold yard sales where mothers can buy or sell baby products. Babies grow up fast. It is only practical to buy or sell gently used clothing and baby equipment to earn or save extra cash.
  • You can gain good friends and join fun social gatherings for moms of twins and multiples. This is a great social outlet for you, especially in times when caring for your twins, get too stressful. You can get not only parenting support, but also an outlet to vent your frustrations and anxieties.
  • Aside from gaining lifelong friendship, you are also giving your twins an opportunity to have a playgroup. This will get them several learning opportunities and have fun activities based on their age group.

Where can I find twin support websites, groups, and organizations?

One of the easiest ways to find a twin support group, club, and online community is to look it up on the internet. You can join a vast online community that connects expecting mothers and mothers of twins from all around the globe or you can choose a twin support group near the area where you live.

Here are some twin pregnancy support groups and online community you can join.

Multiples of America or National Organization of Mothers of Twins Club – It is quite popular in America and its network can connect you to more than 300 clubs across United States. Some of the local clubs include Mothers of Twin Club, Parents of Multiples Club, and Mothers of Multiples Club specific to your state or area.

Their website is very informative. You can look for a local club near your area by zip code search and find out which one is the most convenient for you.

Online communities such as Baby Center, The Bump, and What to Expect When You’re Expecting. These groups do not only offer great information about pregnancy, they also have a wide online community for expecting mothers, mothers of twins and multiples, and even those who are still trying to get pregnant.

You can find and join one or five groups that you like.

What’s better is that these are also easily accessible through your smartphone. You can download the apps to track your pregnancy, join your birth club, and participate in forums online anytime and anywhere.

Facebook groups such as the Twin Stuff Group where you can easily access news and information about twins and multiples, get great reviews of useful pregnancy and baby products and interact with other mothers of twins online.

There is no question about the benefits of joining twin pregnancy support groups and online communities. You only have so much to gain and nothing to lose. Pregnancy clubs or twin support groups exist all over the world.

Thanks to technology, you can easily join, access information, and interact with other expecting mothers around the world at the touch of your fingertips.

How to Carry Twins without a Carrier like a Pro

0
how to carry twins

The easiest way to travel with twins is to have a twin baby carrier. It is a life saver especially if you have to carry your twins alone.

However, in times where you simply do not have an access to one because it broke or you have yet to purchase the perfect twin carrier, you might have to learn how to carry twins on your own.

By hold, it means to carry both babies by hand or using a sling at the same time. You must understand that this poses a risk to your baby.

Holding both babies at the same time means you do not have a free hand to protect them and yourself in case of accidents like when you trip or you have to block a ball headed to your direction.

How to carry twins at the same time

First, you must figure out how to carry your twins like a pro and safely without a carrier.

Some of the tips mentioned below are only for situations where you have to carry both babies but remain in a stationary position like sitting down on a park bench and if you have to carry both safely for a short time and short distances like walking towards your car or back to the house.

double baby carrier

Always handle your babies with care and practice safety at all times, especially if they are still infants and cannot even support their own heads. If you really have to carry your twins at the same time without help from other people, here are some things you can do.

If you are right handed, grab one baby first and place him or her securely in your left arm. Pick up the other baby with your right arm since you have a better control of it. Do the opposite if you are left handed.

If you are just staying in one place, sit down and put the each baby on each sides of your lap as you securely hold them in your arms. That way, you won’t get tired by the weight and you can use your legs as support.

If you are carrying them from their cribs for feeding or if you have to transfer into another room to change, you can lay them side by side first. Lean down and then scoop them up. Put one hand under each twin, and then put one arm under both bottoms securely. Your other arm must be placed across both backs.

This could be scary to do at first try especially if the twins are still too delicate to handle, but you will eventually get the hang of it pretty fast.

Same thing as above but you can add a blanket first for extra support. If they are comfortably swaddled, lay them on a blanket and wrap them first. Lean and scoop them up using the same procedure. This would only be effective until they get too big to hold together like that.

You can use other substitutes or a makeshift carriers if you do not have a twin carrier yet. You can “wear your babies” by using different kinds of wraps.

The classic wrap is a great way to “wear your babies” and still have both of your hands free to do your chores or some grocery shopping.

best twin baby carrier

You may think that it is only good for carrying a single baby, but you can also use it to carry twins at once. For twins, this is called tandem baby wearing. Take note that you should do this at your own discretion because it requires some skill and it takes a lot of practice to master them.

You must do this correctly in order to avoid any harm to your twins. Also, take note of your babies’ ages. This works well with infants who are still small enough to fit snugly in the wrap.

The weight of both babies combined could also be an issue if they get over ten pounds as it will be too difficult and heavy for you to carry both at the same time.

Kinds of wraps to use as a substitute for a twin carrier

  • The Moby Wrap – This is a very common and widely available sling wrap for babies ages 0 to 3 months.

Pros: this is a stretchy kind of wrap that can instantly put your twins in deep slumber as they rest on your chest comfortably.

Cons: It takes a lot of practice to master the right way to wrap your babies since it has tons of fabric. The only type of carry is usually just in front. It is not advisable to use during warm weather because it get very hot. Lastly, you will find it difficult not to wake a sleeping baby when you take one or both out of it.

  • Baby K’tan Breeze – This is also a crowd favourite next to the Moby Wrap.

Pros: Unlike Moby Wrap, this is very light and can be used even in warm weather. It is also super easy to get on and off.

Cons: it is not super snug so it is not good to use for newborns. The best age would be 2 to 4 months. You must exercise caution when using this because you can’t really adjust the fit and the type of carries are pretty limited.

  • The non-stretchy wrap – This is usually made of woven fabric that is very versatile. Make sure to get the right size for tandem wearing.  It can used for newborns up to toddler age depending on the type of carry.

Pros: It is the most comfortable and balanced way to carry twins at the same time. It is very versatile that you do back, front, and one at the back and one at the front carries.

Cons: The one at the front and one at the back type of carry because it is very tricky and require a lot of practice to master. It also has a ton of fabric that can be very hot during warm weather.

Benefits of baby wearing

  • Baby wearing creates a strong bond between the parents and the twins. This results in positive “attachment” and other benefits such as happy babies that cry less.
  • Baby wearing helps in the physical, verbal, and cognitive development of the baby.
  • It makes carrying twins easier without buying a more expensive twin carrier.

You’ve got your hands full when you have twins. But don’t worry; you can still safely carry both babies at once with both of your hands free. These are some ways you can carry twins like a pro without a twin carrier.

I don’t think I could ever say it enough, but always remember to practice safety and not put your babies at risk. Don’t try to force it. Ask for help if you have to.

What Age Can My Twins Use a Play Yard or PlayPen?

The ideal age for children to use a playpen or play yard is 6-8 months because your twins are moving. They can roll over, grasp toys, and lift their little heads.

However, you may want to introduce the playpen to your child around four months of age, so they are comfortable with it. At 6 to 8 months, your twins will be pretty calm natured, so you can leave them in the playpen or play yard when you are close by for short amounts of time.

At this age, you have probably also noticed that your twins are enjoying new toys, so be sure to place some in the playpen them. This will bring them, even more, joy and comfort when you are not in constant direct contact with them.

What is the Difference Between a Play Yard and PlayPen?

There is no difference between a play yard and a playpen. The two terms are truly becoming interchangeable, play yard being the more modern term. Both are basic structures used to keep children safe while playing, napping, or to keep children out of something they should not get into.

They are what you would traditionally think of as an enclosed space with nothing too fancy about them. Some are made for travel while others are stationary for your home.

Some feature changing tables and other handy components for infants and then can morph into something more usable for your children as they grow into toddlers.

Double Bottle Warmer

Caring for your children is time consuming and exhausting. That’s why most of the things you buy to help you look after your children are based around saving time and making things as simple as possible. The best bottle warmer is just like that.

Everyone can heat up a pan of water and use a thermometer, but it’s time consuming, imperfect, and you have to keep coming back to check temperatures, set timers, all of these things.

Instead, a bottle warmer is normally just set and forget. All you have to do is fill it with water, throw a bottle inside and turn it on, and it does all the hard work for you.

It’s literally the simplest thing in the world, and when you think about how many times a day your child needs feeding, and add up the minutes you save, the difference is staggering. It’s not surprising then, that we consider these an essential tool for any mom, whether this is her first time or she’s got previous experience.

Just like every baby product on the market though, there’s a huge amount out there, with loads of variation between them. That’s where we come in, to tell you in plain language what to look for, and why you might want each warmer we’ve recommended. Read on to find out what you should look for and why it’s important.

Things to Consider Before Buying

Most warmers do roughly the same job, but there’s a few things that you should pay attention to when buying it. For example, there’s several different methods that can be used to heat the bottle, which can be important. Read on to find out what you should be looking for.

How Big Is It?

First off, you’re going to be using this a lot, so pulling it out of the cupboard to sit it back on the counter a dozen times a day will soon get boring. You’re going to want to leave it on the sideboard, so consider how big it is and where you’re going to put it.

Sometimes you’ll also need access to the sides of the warmer, and they can throw out a lot of heat, so you might also find yourself pulling it closer to the edge, so it doesn’t get steam on the underside of wall mounted cupboards, for example. In this case, mobility and stability are key.

Is It Compatible with Any Bottles You Already Have?

They aren’t universal. Most of the products we recommend come from the major brands, because they’re more likely to know what they’re doing, and we trust them far more.

Because of this, you’ll find that brand names make models that first work alongside their own bottles, and tend to work with most standard sizes on top of that.

If you’ve already bought bottles, double check that they will fit.

How Long Does It Take to Warm up a Bottle?

The difference between three and four minutes doesn’t sound like a lot, until you’ve got a grizzly baby or two in your arms.

Obviously, the faster the better. Especially if, like we said earlier, you’re going to be using this several times a day. Every minute you can grab from somewhere is going to be appreciated.

How Simple Is It to Use?

Now, they aren’t usually hard to use, but some are much easier to use than others, to the point that you can go from start to finish with just one hand, which is an option you’ll really come to love.

It’s also worth checking how easy they are to set, and whether there are any other benefits. For example, some warmers remember your settings, which saves more time.

How Safe and Healthy Is It?

None are unhealthy. We’d never recommend a product that was bad for your baby, after all.

But some use different methods to heat up the bottles inside. The usual method is steam, but we’ve also seen warmers with water baths. In general, gentler temperatures and less harsh methods are better, if you can get them, because exposing milk, whether formula or breast milk, to hotter temperatures, can destroy some of the valuable nutrients it contains.

Does It Come with Safety Features?

There’s a lot to look out for here, and none of them are essential, but all are useful.

You might find warmers with alarms that sound when it’s finished. Obviously, you don’t need these, but it makes it so much easier because you can just set it and go see to your children.

One thing we would recommend is an automatic shut off, if you can get it though. It’s just an added safety net. You might not think that you’d ever leave it on, but it’s easy to forget something when you’re making up a bottle all blearily eyed in the middle of the night.

Now you know what you’re looking for, we can move on to our reviews. Each of the products below was chosen for a specific reason, whether that’s portability, ease of use, or simply being the best warmer we’ve found, so make sure you read all of them to find out just which is perfect for you.

Baby Bottle Warmer Reviews

The First Years Quick Serve Bottle Warmer

The First Years Quick Serve Bottle Warmer

Pros

  • Multiple functions, use it for anything
  • Wide neck fits pretty much any bottle
  • Auto shut off
  • Uses steam for even heating

Cons

  • Have to fill it with water every time
  • Instructions are bad

Widely considered one of the most practical, affordable and compact options you can buy, there’s so much to recommend about this, it overrides any minor problems it might have.

First, there’s the huge advantage that this isn’t just a bottle warmer. It can also be used as a baby food warmer, and a steriliser for pacifiers, straight out of the box. This saves you so much time, counter space and money it’s unreal, and if you were considering buying a baby food warmer anyway, then why not consider just grabbing this for both.

It fits pretty much every bottle we’ve found, including even the biggest ones, so no matter which bottles you’ve bought your baby, this will work.

It uses steam to heat the bottles, which works quickly and really well. It can go from cold water to full steam in around 30 seconds, and only takes a few minutes to warm the bottle from there.

The only real downsides with this warmer? It can get quite hot, so make sure you check the temperature of the milk before you start feeding. (Though you were probably doing that anyway…) And you have to measure the water out before you use it ever time, though we propose a smart fix for this. The measuring thingy clips to the outside, so just fill it up after you’re done using it, so it’ll be ready to go next time. Trust us, when you’re heating a bottle at 3am, you’ll thank yourself for doing this!

Apart from these tiny things, this is a top choice. It heats fast, it’s reliable, it’s got an auto shut off, and you can use it for so much else.

Dr. Brown’s Bottle Warmer

Dr. Brown's Bottle Warmer

Pros

  • One button activation
  • Can see the water level from the outside
  • Light and alarm when it’s done
  • Automatic power down after 10 minutes

Cons

  • Doesn’t take the very largest bottles

If you’re looking for a steam warmer that’s incredibly convenient and easy to use, then you’re going to want Dr Browns. It’s packed with smart options that make using this a breeze, perfect for a baby that prefers night feeds.

For a start, it’s incredibly easy to use. Once you’ve set it, it remembers everything, so all you have to do is put a bottle in and press one button, and it’ll start working.

Second, it’s got a large water reservoir. Easily enough for several uses, normally around 9 or 10 bottles. So there’s no running backwards and forwards or messing about with refills when you’ve got a cranky, hungry baby on your arm.

Last, it heats really quickly because it uses steam. It may or may not be the fastest, but heats a bottle from frozen in as little as 5 or 6 minutes, which is quite frankly incredible.

When you also figure in the fact that this can be used for baby food as well as milk, and comes with smart safety features like an alarm for when it’s finished and an auto shut off, it’s a no brainer. The only time we wouldn’t recommend this? If you’ve already bought Tommee Tippee bottles. They’re just slightly too large to fit inside this. It takes pretty much every other major brand though, so if you’ve got anything else, this is a wonderful choice.

Philips AVENT Bottle Warmer

Philips AVENT Bottle Warmer

Pros

  • Ridiculously fast heating
  • Milk circulation so no cool or hot spots
  • Defrosting and thawing option
  • Auto shut off

Cons

  • LED heat indicator can be confusing

Tiny, cute and easy to bring with you, Philips AVENT is  great for anyone who leaves the house fully packed often, and needs one they can bring with them.

It’s also notable for another reason. The speed it warms. It’s one of the fastest we’ve ever seen, and can warm 4 or 5 ounce bottles in as little as 3 minutes. It’s also got a really smart function that circulates the milk as it’s being warmed, which leads to a nice even temperature, rather than the cold and hot spots you can sometimes get with cheaper options.

It fits any Philips bottles, and most others, so you won’t have to worry there, especially if you’ve already bought.

Plus, this is pretty simple to use once you get used to it, with a simple dial and one button activation. Although the first couple of times you use it, you might wonder if it’s done, because the LED that tells you how hot the milk has got can be deceiving.

But once you’ve got used to that, this is a wonderful little item. It’s small, easy to use, and warms really quickly. What else could you ask for?

Kiinde Kozii Bottle Warmer and Breast Milk Warmer

Kiinde Kozii Bottle Warmer and Breast Milk Warmer

Pros

  • Takes any size of bottle or bag
  • Unique flowing heating method
  • Auto shut off for safety
  • Large reservoir lasts multiple uses

Cons

  • Don’t let it run out of water, or you fry the system
  • Manual timer can’t be adjusted once it’s on

Designed from the ground up to follow the CDC’s guidelines for breast milk, if you want the safest and healthiest option for your baby, then Kiinde Kozii’s model is probably your number one option.

It’s a good choice on top of this for a few other reasons, too. For example, the universal warming chamber design is supposed to fit any bottle or milk bag on the market, so you won’t have to worry about your bottles not fitting this.

Unlike pretty much all other bottle warmers, this doesn’t use steam. Instead, there’s a ‘bath’ that you sit the bottle in, which is circulated around the bottle to heat up the milk inside evenly and safely. Because there’s no steam, there’s supposedly no temperature variation, which means that none of the nutrients in the milk will be damaged.

Be careful with the timer though. The manufacturers recommendations are a little out, and recommend longer times than you’d expect. Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem, but you can’t adjust the timer once you’ve set it, and taking the bottle out early can damage the machine, so make sure you’ve set it right. Just fill a couple bottles with water and play around when you first buy this.

Once you’ve got past this little issue though, you’re ending up with an amazing little warmer that works fast, works incredibly well, and is as safe as you can get.

Tommee Tippee Travel Bottle and Food Warmer

Tommee Tippee Travel Bottle and Food Warmer

Pros

  • Really easy to use
  • Especially designed to use the Tommee Tippee range
  • Safe and healthy
  • No electricity, batteries, anything

Cons

  • Occasionally leaks

If you’re the sort of mom that goes everywhere prepared and ready, with everything packed, then you’re obviously going to want a portable bottle warmer. And there’s no better option than Tommee Tippee’s travel warmer.

It’s robustly designed, obviously because it’s going to take a few more beatings than a standard counter sitting option. It’s also completely free of anything that might hurt baby, like BPAs.

So simple to use, you’re going to love the convenience. It’s basically a large, specially designed stainless steel Thermos with a bulletproof locking mechanism and an outside sheath cover that you reverse to put the bottle in with the hot water.

All you do is boil some water, fill the Thermos and lock it down, where it will stay hot for hours. When baby gets hungry, pull the cover off and put it down somewhere stable, click the button at the top to unlock it, pour the hot water into the covering, then put the bottle in. That’s it. So simple. So effective.

No matter what bottle you use, it’s going to fit into this, and considering how inexpensive it is, I’d say it’s an essential part of any mom’s baby toolkit.

4-in-1 Electric Baby Bottle Warmer and Sterilizer

Pros

  • Large capacity
  • Digital control features
  • 4-in-1 multi-function

Cons

  • Heating takes a while
  • No signal the job is done

This warmer and sterilizer has a large capacity and can accommodate up to 4 bottles of standard sizes and accessories. It is made with high-quality materials and has a transparent body as well as a convenient to carry handle.

It features a 4-in-1 function such as a heater, warmer, sterilizer, and bottle storage. It also has an LCD display with digital controls. There is no signal or sound that tells you it is done heating and sterilizing the baby bottles. You may also find that heating takes quite a while to finish. You might have to start ahead before your baby gets hungry.

There is no clear instruction on how to drain the water, clean, and maintain it, which is very important. It could be a baby food warmer as well, but there is no instruction about that either. Overall, it does its job well and is a great product overall for its price. You do not have to buy separate sterilizer or bottle storage. It gives you value for your money.

Babebay Baby Bottle Warmer

This has a 4-in-1 function such as “warm milk”, “heat food”, “milk formula” and “sterilization”. It is designed with a knob that enables you to use the functions. You can also adjust the temperature accordingly so you do not overheat drinks or food.

It has a reversible lid and is large enough to accommodate bottles of different sizes or heights. It can also heat up baby food and milk at the same time. One great thing about this is the automatic shut-off feature that is a great safety feature especially when the water evaporated or after the water boils.  You do not have to run to plug it off.

It is very easy to use and clean. It would only take you a few minutes to operate and warm or heat your baby’s food or milk, which is very helpful during night time feeds when your baby is too hungry to wait. You may find the temperature control a little bit off, but all in all; the product is safe to use, simple, convenient, and reasonably priced.

Best Baby Swing of 2021

Cute Baby Shower Gift Ideas for Twins and Moms

The best baby swing is the secret weapon every new mother needs.

Everyone knows that babies relax when they’re moving about, especially in a rhythmic, back and forward motion. It’s been used for hundreds of years to calm children, and it’s so effective it even works on adults! Consider how we instinctively cradle and rock someone who’s unhappy.

Scientists have recently worked out exactly why this happens. It turns out that when we’re moved in a rocking motion, it’s the same sort of movement that you’d feel when your mother carries you, and this motion releases feel good emotions into our bodies!

But we don’t need to know why this works, only that it does. So many moms swear by baby swings that we consider it an essential tool in any moms arsenal, whether you’re going to be using it to calm your baby down when they’re having a grumpy moment, or just help ease them off to sleep at nap time.

Whatever you think you might need it for, the fact is that you do definitely need one. We’ll explain why below. Or if you already know why you want one and what to look for, skip the next section and head straight to our reviews to find out which swing is right for you.

First, What Is a Baby Swing?

Obvious question, with an obvious answer. It is a comfortable seat attached to a frame and a motor that swings the seat backwards and forward to relax and calm your baby.

A lot of swings have multiple speed settings, as well as other things to entertain and interest your infant like built in sounds, music and toys.

Do I Need a Baby Swing?

Like we just explained, the rocking motion that comes from sitting in a baby swing instinctively calms and relaxes a baby. It’s uncanny to see a child that was howling just a second ago cooing and smiling at you again just because you’ve sat them in a swing, strapped them in and started it rocking.

Baby swings are great for mothers who have busy lives, because it keeps your baby comfortable and relaxed whilst you’re working. They’re enjoying themselves, they can see mommy, and you can keep an eye on them no matter what you’re doing, safe in the knowledge that they’re not going to get anywhere they shouldn’t!

They are also amazing at sending your little one to sleep. You’d rock your child to sleep if they were having trouble drifting off, right? Well they can do that for you, which is perfect if you’ve had a long day and your arms are suffering!

best baby swing

That Sounds Great. How Long Can I Leave My Baby in Their Swing?

It is great, but don’t get over reliant on them. Experts advise that you should only leave your baby in their swing for less than an hour a day, otherwise you might impair important motor skill development like crawling and climbing.

Selecting a Baby Swing or Baby Bouncer

There’s a lot of variety, but they all have the same core function, so there’s a few things you should definitely focus on. These are:

Comfort

You want it to be comfortable to sit in. After all, your child isn’t going to be able to relax unless they’re comfy.

Look for deep seats that give great support, especially to the important neck and head areas. It’s also worth seeing how big the seats are, and how heavy the swing can take. Some of our favorite swings actually adjust themselves based on how heavy your baby is getting!

It’s also nice to be able to recline the seat. Good baby swings all have this option, so it’s something to look out for.

How Does It Swing?

Front to back? Side to side? Both? How many swing speeds does it have, and how easy is it to adjust?

Can You Rotate the Seat?

Some swings are fixed, with the seat only ever facing forward. But others can be rotated to face the sides, or even be rotated fully around. This makes it much easier to adjust as well as allowing you to keep an eye on your little one, no matter what you’re doing.

How Is It Powered?

There’s two options. Mains power and batteries. Batteries are good for portability, but can be expensive to keep replacing. The top swings will have both options available.

Sounds and Stimulation?

Does it play songs, and how many? Does it have soft toys or a mobile, or maybe something else? Some swings even have the option of a toy bar, whether built in or available to buy separately.

How Easy Is It to Move and Use?

Baby swings aren’t very heavy, but the easier it is to move about, the better. Some swings have better options like carrying handles or the ability to fold down so you can fit it into your car.

How Strong Is It?

Like everything that’s around your bundle of joy, expect your swing to take a beating. It’s a baby product, so most swings are pretty robust and tough anyway, but the tougher the better. Plus, the safest swings are made from the toughest materials with heavy duty harnesses.

How Easy Is It to Clean?

There’s going to be accidents, so you’re going to need to be able to clean it. Good swings have removable seat covers that you can throw into the washing machine, and simple, open frames that are simple to wipe down and disinfect.

Baby Swing Reviews

Fisher-Price Sweet Snugapuppy Dreams Cradle ‘n Swing

safest baby swings

Pros

  • Swings from side to side and back to front, with 6 speeds
  • Rotates at the touch of a button
  • 16 built in songs, as well as nature sounds
  • Adjusts its swing speed to your babies weight
  • Really comfy for your baby

Cons

  • No built in timer
  • Complicated to assemble when you first get it

Considering the price, and that it’s made by Fisher Price, this is, in our opinion, the top baby swing out there. It’s got literally everything both you and your baby are going to need for them to be as comfortable and happy as they possible can be.

First off, it’s super comfortable, with a really deep seat with plush supports for both the head and body. Then you look at how she swings, and this model goes front to back and side to side at any of the six swing speeds, so whatever your child prefers, it’s all there.

You can rotate the seat, just by pressing a button, so if you’re busy ironing and want to keep an eye on your little one, or just want to stay in their vision to keep them happy and relaxed, it’s as simple as using one finger.

One thing I absolutely love about this is how it’s got a built in sensor that can see how much your baby weighs and adjusts the speed of the swing. This means as your baby gets a little older and heavier, they get the same relaxing swing speed that they’re used to. It’s just a really smart design choice.

You can power it from the mains, or with batteries too, so if you’re looking for a portable model, this fits the bill, and it’s all fully washable too, including the removable seat covers, in case of little accidents!

There’s also a load of things to keep your baby entertained. Built in music and nature sounds, an adorable little mobile at the top, and a mirror in the middle of it all so your baby can see how happy they are to be in this. It really is just great, and if you’ve wondered at all what swing you can get that’s going to be best for your baby, this baby swing really is an amazing choice. I’d always recommend it!

4moms mamaRoo

best baby swings for sleeping

Pros

  • 5 unique movement patterns
  • Connects to your phone for absolute control
  • Can play your own music through the speakers

Cons

  • It’s expensive. But so worth it
  • Has to be plugged into the mains, no batteries

We live in the future. The phone in your handbag is more powerful than the computers we used to land men on the moon! And now you can use that technology to keep your baby smiling and laughing all day with the mamaRoo.

First, the elephant in the room, (and no, not the blue one hanging off the mobile!) Yes. It is expensive. But yes, it is worth it. Hell, you’d wish you could buy one of these and use it as your own personal relaxation chair.

It’s got 5 patterns of movement, that are all unique and have been designed to mimic natural patterns, including being carried by mommy or swinging side to side like you would when you’re trying to comfort and calm. Plus the seat recline is infinitely adjustable, going from sitting high to fully reclined, and anywhere in between.

But the thing that sets this apart from normal baby swings? The reason it’s so highly technical? You can control it with your phone! And that’s full control. So if you want to speed it up, or start playing music, you can! It plays music from your phone, too, so Spotifying nursery rhymes is literally the simplest thing in the entire world!

There are controls on the base of it too, so you don’t have to control it from a smartphone if you don’t want to, but it’s just so easy, especially when you’re busy around the house, and it makes life so incredibly simple that it’s something I can’t recommend enough.

You have to run it from the mains, though, but that’s a small price to pay for such an amazing baby swing. Your baby will love it, family and friends will be impressed by it, and you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Graco Simple Sway Baby Swing

Pros

  • Wide, comfy seat with a 5 point harness
  • 6 swing speeds
  • Multiple options for songs and sounds
  • Really small, portable and easy to move

Cons

  • Can’t rotate it
  • Eats batteries like candy. But you can plug it in

If you’re looking for a swing that’s got a simple design, is easy to move about, but has everything you’d look for, then you might want to take a look at the Graco simple swing.

It’s built really simply, with a basic but strong and durable frame that’s easy to assemble and really really easy to move about. The seat is comfortable; wide and deep with a 5 point harness that will hold your baby in safely without being uncomfortably tight or pinching.

There’s a lot to keep them entertained, as well. 6 different swing speeds, from slow to fast, as well as almost a dozen songs and a bunch of nature sounds. There’s also a built in mobile that’s pleasingly soft and adorably cute.

It’s dual powered, so you can use the mains or batteries, but be warned that it does go through batteries quite quickly, so I’d only recommend using them if you’re away from the house. If you do need mobility though, this is a good swing because of its compactness, ease of movement, and the fact that it does last a good few days on battery power.

Overall, this swing does nothing special, but everything it does do is really good. It’s well put together, comfy for your baby, and has enough flair in the sounds and swing speeds, that’s it’s easy to recommend.

Comfort & Harmony Cozy Kingdom Portable Swing

Pros

  • Collapses down into an easy to carry flat pack
  • Incredibly light and compact
  • Really quiet
  • 6 swing speeds and 6 sound options

Cons

  • Can’t adjust the seat recline
  • Mobile hangs quite low

If you need the best baby swing that you can take anywhere, and that snaps down into something the size of a briefcase in one press of a snappy button, then this swing is where it’s at.

It weighs barely 10lbs, and it’s so small and compact, but that doesn’t mean it’s not solidly built. Even better, with one press of a button you can unlock it and snap the frame down so it lies flat, meaning you can carry it with just one hand, throw it in the back of the car, take it anywhere at all with you! It’s even possible to fit it in a large bag!

It’s whisper quiet, too. If you’ve got it on lower speed options, you can’t hear a thing, unless you turn on one of the 6 included song choices. It’s not much louder at any of the higher six speeds, either.

The seat is surprisingly high quality for the price as well. It’s made of really soft, durable material that’s comfortable and hard wearing. It can carry infants up to around 30lbs, too. But the manufacturers recommend that you don’t put any children over around 4 months into this swing, so be careful as your baby gets a little older. It also only runs off of batteries, with no option for mains, so do bear that in mind when you’re buying this.

Considering what you’re paying, and the portability of this swing, it’s surprising how high quality everything is. It’s relatively tough, hard wearing, comfy to sit in, has its own music, and it’s quiet as a church mouse. If you want an easily portable baby swing, even as a spare to take with you when you travel, this is cheap enough that you can pick it up without worrying. And for moms who grab this as a main swing, it’s easily good enough to do that, too!

Graco DuetSoothe Swing and Rocker

Pros

  • Can take the seat off of the swing to use it as a rocker
  • Built in carry handle makes moving this a cinch
  • Swings front to back and side to side, with 6 speeds
  • 3 different swing positions, to keep ’em comfortable

Cons

  • Can be quite loud on higher speeds
  • Mobile doesn’t rotate or move

We’ve already looked at one Graco baby swing today, and if you’ve already read that review you know that Graco swings are durable, well made and have a great set of features as standard.

This is a slightly more expensive model than the Graco simple, and because of that you get a lot more as part of the package.

It’s still got the standard Graco options. 6 different swing speeds with multiple swing directions, a soft and giving seat with a 5 point harness that’s incredibly comfortable as well as safe for your baby. A mobile overhead to keep them occupied, as well as 15 songs and nature sounds built in.

It can be powered by batteries as well as mains, so you know that you can take this wherever you need it to go and still have power. It’s also got a battery powered vibration feature, which is great for sending your infant off to sleep!

Where this swing differentiates itself from the Graco simple, and from all the other swings we’ve looked at, is that you can remove the seat, and the built in underseat frame lets that seat double as a rocker with no extra work or having to add anything else! It’s as simple as unclicking it and placing it wherever you need it to be. So if you want to bring baby with you as you move through your house, just pick it up with the built in carry handle and bring the seat, not the whole swing!

Graco Slim Spaces Compact Baby Swing

Pros

  • Great compact design
  • Easy to fold and unfold
  • Easy to use power wheel

Cons

  • Short battery life
  • Power wheel can easily be reached by kids

This baby swing is compact and space-saving but does not sacrifice the interaction with the baby. It has a carry handle that you can easily use when traveling or if you have to move from room to room. It also has a built-in motor that is operated by a battery that enables the swing.

Its special features include height adjustable legs that allow parents to choose between the full-size mode and the compact one. It ensures that the baby is positioned at the best height for interaction. It has a power wheel that is easy to use. You can keep your baby entertained and visually stimulated with the two soft toys in the overhead toy bar.

This compact infant swing is portable, easy to set up, and easy to fold back up for storage or traveling. You may find the battery life to be horrible and hard to charge because it is located on the inside of the pillar. Although the power wheel is easy to use, it also poses a danger if you have other kids in the house. They can easily turn it to high if you are not looking. You just have to be extra careful with that.

Wrapping Up

That’s the end of our reviews. Hopefully by now you’ve found the perfect swing for you and your child, and know exactly what you’re going to buy.

If you’ve got any more questions, or you’ve got something you’d like to add about the best baby swing, feel free to post it in the comments below. We always love hearing from our readers!

What Should I Look for in My Sippy Cup?

First, ask yourself when it’s time to introduce the cup.

The answer is, as always, it depends on your baby. Some children are ready as early as 6 months in, but some don’t start making that jump until they see their first birthday.

It’s not recommended to try and make the transition before 6 months, but it’s definitely recommended to wean your baby off of the bottle by their first birthday. Otherwise, they can face tooth problems down the line.

When you’re looking for the best sippy cup for milk, there are a few serious questions you need to ask yourself.

The Biggest Question Is Straw or Spout?

Straws are great because they’re really easy to use, and they’re much better for your baby’s dental health. Plus, straws normally have anti-leak measures built in that make them great to learn how to hold and use normal cups rather than bottles.

Spouts, on the other hand, are perfect for babies that are struggling to make the jump from bottles. Soft silicone spouts are the closest thing to a bottle that you can find, and it’s a more natural transition to go from a bottle to a cup with a spout.

If your baby is struggling, grab a cup with a spout. Otherwise, go straw.

Then Ask Yourself Whether It Will Leak?

When you’re moving from a bottle to a sippy cup, it’s only natural to drink in the same way, and that can mean a lot of leaning back and tilting the cup up high.

That’s why most good sippy cups have valves and other anti-leak measures built in. It makes so much difference when your baby can do what they want with your cup and know that nothing will leak out!

How Easy Is It to Use and Hold?

Most sippy cups will have one or two handles, which makes holding them so easy. Some good cups also can take these handles off as your infant gets a little bit older to make drinking from their favorite cup even more like drinking from a real adult cup.

It’s also worth checking if other things make it easier, like measures drawn on the side so you can see how much your baby is drinking or handholds and knurled bits on the cup’s body itself.

baby freckles

How Easy Is It to Clean?

Almost all good cups are dishwasher-safe and free of anything that could even potentially cause harm to your child, so cleaning them is as simple as taking them apart and dropping them in.

It’s worth checking this, though, just in case. And if you don’t have a dishwasher, you can normally just sterilize with boiling water.

Can You Take It out with You?

Some cups have options that make it so simple to leave the house with them, for example, snap down straws or locking lids, so if you’re going to be going out, it makes it so much easier to be able just to throw a cup in your bag and know you’re safe and set.

So now you know what you want, let’s get onto the reviews.

Best Sippy Cup Reviews

Munchkin Alphabet Sippy Cup

best straw cup for babyPros

  • Pretty much unbreakable
  • Doesn’t leak
  • Cute design, with letters all over it
  • Easy to clean
  • Holds 9 ounces of fluid

Cons

  • If you put the valve in the wrong, the drink goes everywhere

The best sippy cup for milk and for pretty much any drink your kids might want. These sippy cups are strong, easy to use, and so cute your kids are sure to love them.

If you put the valve in the right, these won’t leak, no matter what. Turn it upside down, drop it on the ground, and even bounce it off of walls, and it will be fine. This makes it perfect for nap times or when your little one climbs into your bed and means that unfortunate leaks aren’t going to happen.

It’s easy to clean, with a removable inside bit that you can just throw into the dishwasher and the rest of it.

It can also hold a lot of fluid. Up to 9 ounces, which is almost half a pint! Easily enough to keep them satisfied and even full, the hand-friendly shape makes it easy to hold.

I also really love the cute letters printed all over it. It gives really young children something to look at, and older ones can learn their letters as they drink.

Honestly, there’s nothing you can fault these cups for. They’re a good price, tough and really nice to look at. That’s why they’re my number one choice.

Munchkin Click Lock Weighted Flexi Straw Trainer Cup

Best sippy cup with straw

best sippy cup for 18 month oldPros

  • You can use it at any angle without leaks
  • Really really easy to hold
  • Simple to clean, dishwasher safe
  • Bright and bold design

Cons

  • Straw is a little bit harder to suck than some others

The best sippy cup with straw I’ve found, this lovely little cup is perfect for taking on the go because it’s so secure and safe that you’re pretty much never going to have any spills. In fact, the makers are so sure of their design that it’s covered by a 100% guarantee.

But how does this work? Well, first, you’ve got the really smart straw with a built-in valve. The straw is weighted so that you can use it from any angle, and the valve means that no drink will come out of it unless somebody is sucking on it, so hold this upside down and give it a shake, and still nothing will happen.

The handles make it really easy to hold, even for the smallest hands, and the bright, bold design with open sides makes it so easy to see how much fluid is left inside; plus it’s cute enough that your little ones are sure to love it.

Once it’s done, you can just push down the click lock lid and listen for that satisfying click that tells you it’s all secure and ready to put away.

Once it’s time to clean, you can drop the whole thing into the dishwasher and just leave it. If you want the best straw cup for your baby and you, then you should seriously consider this. It’s perfect.

NUK Jungle Designs Large Learner Cup in Patterns

Pros

  • Large capacity, great for days out
  • A soft, spill-proof spout is great for teething
  • Easy to hold, despite the size
  • Can remove handles as they get older

Cons

  • The spout is soft silicone so that it can be chewed up
  • It’s kinda big for a young infant

If you’re looking for a great transitional cup, then look no further. This sippy cup is amazing for babies looking to make the jump from bottles to cups, and because you can remove the handles, it can continue to see service even as they move to real cups, which makes this the best sippy cup for 18-month-old or even older infants.

The spout is soft and easy on the mouth and really good when they’re teething. It’s also really easy to get a drink from, so there’d be no struggle or frustration when it comes to drinking time.

It’s really big, with the largest capacity out of every cup we’re looking at today, but even though it’s so large, it’s really easy to hold with the huge handles on the sides. Once your child gets a little older, these handles can be easily removed, leaving them with a cup that looks just like mommy.

They’re also adorable, with a load of different designs that come in boy and girl colors, so you’re sure to find one you fall in love with. If you want a good, high-capacity sippy cup that can take your child all the way through from bottles to real cups, this is what I’d go for.

Thinkbaby BPA Free No Spill Sippy Cup

Pros

  • Silicone nipple, great for transferring from bottles
  • Really easy to clean
  • So simple to hold, with huge handles

Cons

  • It can be a pain to put together
  • Occasional leaks

Another great transitional cup, this sippy cup is probably the closest thing you’re going to find to a bottle in terms of look and feel, so if your little treasure is struggling to make the jump, this could be just what you’re looking for to wean them off of their bottle finally.

It’s actually really similar to a bottle to look at, with a wide, 9-ounce capacity cup with measures all down the front and two huge handles, one on each side. The spout on top is soft silicone, too, so it even feels like a bottle nipple when they first use it.

It’s simple to clean, considering you can just throw it on the top rack in your dishwasher, and it’s safe for baby as well, being completely free of BPAs and phthalates, as well as anything else that’s biologically harmful.

It can sometimes be a bit of an issue to put it back together, though. The screw top sometimes doesn’t sit right, and you won’t notice until you have a little bit of a leak, but you’ll soon get the hang of it.

If I’m being honest, then I’d probably still buy the NUK brand above, but if you want a slightly smaller, easier-to-hold sippy cup that still does a great job, this is definitely not a bad choice.

NuSpin Kids Zoomi Straw Sippy Cup

Pros

  • No valve in the straw means it’s really easy to suck
  • Really simple to clean
  • Easy to hold
  • Cute design

Cons

  • No anti-spill features
  • No travel lid

If your baby is having trouble making the jump to straws or has ever struggled with a bottle because of a weak suck, then this is the perfect sippy cup for them and you.

There aren’t any anti-spill features in this cup, so there are no valves or anything. That means that it’s so easy to get liquid from this cup. It’s just like drinking out of a real cup! But that also means that if you turn it upside down, you might get a bit of a leak, so I’d only recommend this after about 12 months, and maybe once they’ve got used to not tipping anything above their heads when it’s time to drink.

It’s really easy to hold, too. Perfectly shaped for hands, with a nice little rim that makes slips and drops really unlikely. Plus, it’s made of safe, tough material that can take a beating, and it’s completely free of harmful chemicals.

They’re also really cute, with an adorable design on the side. Your kids are sure to love it.

First Years Take and Toss Sippy Cups

Pros

  • Durable
  • Affordable
  • It comes in vibrant colors
  • Easy to clean

Cons

  • May leak

Sippy cups are easy to lose. Get the best value for your money by buying one that is durable enough to last for years and affordable enough that it won’t break your bank and your heart if you lose it. First Years Take and Toss Sippy Cups fit the bill. It is durable yet affordable. However, the sippy cup may leak if your kid shake, drops, toss, squeeze, and hold it upside-down.

There are a variety of colors to choose from that you can mix and match. Your child will surely love the bright colored cups that can be paired with vibrant colored lids. The cups are translucent, so you do not have to open the lid every time to check how much drink is left. The lids are easy to snap on, spill-proof, valve free, and easy to clean.

These sippy cups are dishwasher safe. They are made of high-quality materials and are free from harsh chemicals that can be dangerous to your kids. Follow proper care instructions and safety warnings before use. They are easy to clean. There is no need for pipe cleaner products to clean the valve.

Gerber Graduates Fun Grips Hard Spout Sippy Cup

Pros

  • Durable
  • Easy to use
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Spill and leak proof
  • Great design

Cons

  • Too big
  • It doesn’t fit standard cup holders

These sippy cups feature a unique closing system called Seal Zone Technology that ensures 100% leak and spill-proof and guaranteed break-proof. It does not leak when shaken, tipped, or dropped. It is durable enough to be used repeatedly and for a reasonable price.

You do not have to worry about your child using it as a teether. It is bite-resistant. The textured hourglass shape prevents tipping, and the spout allows your child to transition to independent drinking. It holds a good amount of liquid. If you have more than one kid, you can easily personalize the cups.

The size can hold 10 ounces of liquid, which is great. However, since the cup it quite bigger than others, it does not fit the standard cup holder of the car seat, stroller, and highchair tray. It is a drawback, especially for on-the-go sipping.

The cup’s design makes it so easy to use, and your child will feel like an independent, big kid. The cups and the valves are also very easy to clean and do not allow molds to accumulate. When it comes to safety, it is dishwasher-free and BPA free.

Best Baby Monitor for Twins: No More Double Trouble

best baby monitor for twins
Twins brother baby crying

So you’re wondering which of the best baby monitor for twins to get. Well, you know as well as I do that when you have twins, they’re more than twice as hard to manage as a single child! In fact, you look at all the other moms with their single child, and even though you wouldn’t ever give your two miracles up for anything, you can’t help but feel a little jealous at how easy their life must be.

It’s like magic. As soon as you have eyes on one, the other seems to know the coast is clear to get into mischief, and using that unerring sense children seem to have, disappears!

In the past, mothers had to have eyes in the back of their heads to keep up with this. Thankfully, modern technology now has our backs, and baby monitors make it so simple to keep track of your kids, even when you aren’t in the room!

Just like anything for children, there’s a huge amount of options out there, and it can be hard to wade through them all and find the best, especially when you barely have time for yourself!

Before we get into the details, let’s see how the top baby monitor for twins compare:

Things to Consider When Buying a Baby Monitor

Everyone’s got a different situation, but when you’re buying a baby monitor, it’s worth taking a step back and thinking about what you’re going to need it for, where it’s going to fit in your house, and how often you think you might need it.

For example, a family that live in an apartment will have a completely different expectation and needs than a family with a larger garden that’s regularly used, either by the twins to play or just by yourself as you’re putting the washing out.

When you’re first considering your baby monitor for twins, think about these things:

  • How large is your house, and how far are you going to be from your kids?
  • How often do you spend a few minutes or more away from the twins? Are you regularly on the other side of the house?
  • Are you happy with just hearing your children, or would you like the extra security that comes with being able to see them as well?
  • Do you travel often, and so might need something that can come with you?
  • Do extra features like night lights and temperature sensors matter to you?
  • What’s your budget? Obviously, if you see yourself using this often, or you’re going to be away from your twins more than you might want to be, it’s worth splashing out a little bit more.
  • Do you need a movement sensor? It’s possible to get baby monitors for twins with movement monitor that activate whenever your children stop moving for a longer period of time, letting you know that something might be wrong.

My house isn’t very big, I don’t feel like I need a baby monitor?

You might say that, but are you by the side of your children every second of the day? Can you honestly say that you know everything they’re doing, at any moment? It only takes a minute for something to go wrong, and for me, the extra layer of safety and security that a baby monitor gives me is worth anything.

Even if you live in a smaller house or apartment, it’s normally worth picking up a baby monitor, just for that extra peace of mind it gives you. Even if your walls are thin, it means you can see at a glance what’s going on. It means you can shut the door to their room without worrying about not being able to see what’s going on in there. It’s also a great option if you worry about missing something, for example if you’ve got a hearing issue, or you’re having the grandparents over to look after them for a night and you’re concerned about whether they’ll be able to hear them crying.

Why you should buy a video monitor system rather than pure audio.

Some people are happy to just have an audio monitor, especially if they don’t have to move too far away or spend a lot of time away from the kids. But for me, the extra convenience that comes with being able to see what’s going on in the next room at a glance is a fantastic addition. One that takes a huge weight off of my mind.

There are a lot of options, from simple video monitors with just one camera, to multi camera systems with night vision, movement sensors, movable cameras, so no matter what happens, you’ve got the perfect insight into what’s happening.

When you’re looking at buying a baby monitor for twins, you’ve also got to think about what the signal is like. This is pretty technical, but basically it comes in two types. Analogue and digital.

Analogue is the old style, and it’s perfectly fine, but you’re more likely to lose signal, and the signal tends to be weaker, so you don’t get as much range on the monitor either. Plus it’s actually possible for people to hack into an analogue monitor!

Digital is the better, but more expensive option.

They’ve got longer range and far more stable signals, and they’re a lot more secure, with less interference from other signals, which can happen with analogue monitors. (For example, a mobile phone signal can sometimes scramble the monitor when it rings…)

If you’ve got the option, it’s worth picking up a digital monitor rather than an analogue, because they are all around better.

Things You Should Be Concerned About When Buying a Twins Monitor

Range and signal

Range is incredibly important when you’re considering a baby monitor. You need something that’s going to cover your entire house, and go as far as you will away from your kids without affecting the quality of the signal. You need it clear and constant.

No point in buying a baby monitor if it’s going to cut out every five minutes, right?

Bear in mind that the range stated on the box is probably not what you’re going to get out of it. The range the manufacturers say is normally what it’s like in a completely open room, with no walls, no Wi-Fi or other signals interfering with it.

When you’re looking at range, you’re also going to want to look at the signal strength. This is something I would test as soon as I’ve got my new monitor out of the box. Turn it on and walk around with it. See if it cuts out or the signal stutters. This is going to be really important when you’re doing jobs around the house and trying to pay attention to the twins at the same time!

You want a constant, steady signal. No juddering, no weak sound or picture, no cutting out.

What about other extras? Movement alerts, temperature gauges?

There’s a lot of other extras you can look for, and most of them are useful, but not essential, things like:

  • Visual crying alerts, that ping up a light or buzzer on the monitor when your baby is crying. This is great if you’re a busy person, or need your monitor nearby but silent, for example, working from home
  • Movement alerts, that check and alert you if your kids stop moving for more than half a minute. This is for things like SIDS, but some people think it might just be a false sense of security, so make sure you don’t just rely on this and check them regularly.
  • Temperature gauges, that constantly monitor the temperature in your nursery and let you know if it gets too cold or hot, really useful in both winter and summer

Baby Monitor for Twins Reviews

Infant Optics DXR-8 Video Baby Monitor + Add-on Camera

Pros

  • High power, high clarity camera
  • Full camera control, pan tilt, zoom
  • Huge battery life, up to 10 hours
  • Easy to add new parts, from lenses to extra cameras

Cons

  • Expensive, but worth it
  • Occasional models have charging issues

This twin baby mointor has literally everything you could want in one sleek, beautiful, powerful package. Just keep in mind, the additional camera comes separately.

First, and most importantly, the cameras themselves are incredible. They’ve got full range of movement that’s really easy to use from the handheld monitor. There’s a strong digital zoom that’s easy to use, and additional cameras are simple to plug in and use, making this a great choice if you need a dual monitor for different rooms.

Even better, the cameras have the option to change lenses, so if you need a wider view of your twin nursery, you can switch out the lenses quickly and easily.

The monitor itself is good, too. Sleek and simple to use, with a clear, large sized screen. The sound clarity is excellent. It picks up everything that’s going on anywhere near the cameras, and it comes through the monitor with a crisp, clear sound that’s easy to pick individual noises out of. It’s even possible to pick up faint background noises, for example the white noise from my humidifier.

Lastly, the battery life is really really good. It lasts around 6 hours with the video on, which is easily long enough for most normal days. If you only need sound, then you can get around 10 hours.

Downsides are really minor. You have to charge the cameras with wires, rather than a dock, and the charging wires could be quite easy to damage, and the noise when it gets low on batteries or loses signal is quite annoying. Though, I have to admit I like that, because it reminds me to charge it!

At the end of the day, no matter what you need, this camera and monitor set can do it. It’s powerful, with a great set of cameras and a crystal clear picture. If you want the best for your family, in my opinion, this is it.

VTech VM342-2 Safe & Sound Expandable Digital Video Baby Monitor with 2 Cameras

Pros

  • Excellent digital sound clarity
  • Automatic night vision that’s easy to see
  • Sound sensitivity can be adjusted
  • Built in temperature sensors

Cons

  • Cameras can’t be moved using the monitor
  • Short cords on the cameras

A sound baby monitor for twins. It’s powerful with a lot of features built in. This monitor would be a welcome addition to any family. The cameras are really easy to use, and have a powerful zoom and a built in, automatic night vision mode, so even in the middle of the night you can make sure your little treasures are safe and sound.

You can choose one camera or two, whatever you need, and it’s actually expandable all the way up to four separate cameras. So if you want to completely cover your entire nursery, or half of your house, with baby cams, you can.

The sound quality is what really sets this apart. It’s crystal clear, which makes it easy to hear everything that’s happening at the other end. You can also set the sound levels using the monitor, so if there’s something going on in the background, like music, you can set this up to automatically filter that out.

The cameras only have short cords, so it’s a bit of effort sometimes to get them to where you need them, and they aren’t controllable from the monitor like the Infant Optics is, so if you want a different view, you’re going to have to go change it yourself. (And at that point, why even have the camera?)

Overall, these are among the top quality monitors on the market if you have twins, which will give any new parent everything you need, at a reasonable price.

Summer Infant Dual View Digital Color Video Baby Monitor

Pros

  • Split screen feature is amazing. See two camera views on the same screen
  • Camera control from the monitor, including night vision
  • Long range sensors

Cons

  • Picture quality isn’t the best I’ve seen
  • Low battery life, and no low battery indicator

A mixed bag. Summer Infant’s baby monitor for twins has a few features that make it a really good dual choice, for example, to have them in two rooms, as well as a pretty good monitor in general. There’s just a few things that I’d wish they’d done better.

First off, we’ve got to talk about the split screen feature. You can have the feeds from two cameras on the monitor at once, which is so so good when you’ve split the twins up for an hour.

The cameras themselves are also controllable from the monitor, with easy to use pan, tilt and zoom functions, as well as a pretty good night vision mode. It’s also got good sound quality, both ways, so not only will you hear everything that’s happening near the cameras, your children will be able to hear your voice whenever you want them to.

Unfortunately, the camera quality isn’t quite as good as the two systems we’ve looked at above, with a slightly muddier, grainier picture. It’s also got quite a low battery life, especially on the monitor itself. So if you’re planning on moving around the house a lot and using the monitor cable free, bear that in mind.

VTech VM312-2 Safe and Sound Video Baby Monitor with Night Vision and Two Cameras

Pros

  • Budget friendly, especially for a visual monitor
  • Great sound quality
  • Good signal distance

Cons

  • Short battery life
  • Not the best screen clarity

If you’re on a budget, then this is the little brother to the V-Tech Baby Monitor for Twins we just looked at.

For the price, it’s pretty good, with two cameras that work at a really long range, with a crystal clear sound quality. Unfortunately, the visual fidelity isn’t that great. It’s still good enough to see, but not as nice as the more expensive models, so things in the distance get a bit blurry.

It also manages to pack in a night vision mode, and though obviously you aren’t going to get the same quality as you will on more expensive monitors, it’s still easily good enough to see what’s going on at the other end.

There’s a 2 way talk back system, so you’ve got the option to comfort your kids from a distance, and the cameras are pretty easy to mount, whether you put them on a surface or stick them up on a wall.

Bear in mind you always get what you pay for, but this doesn’t mean that this is a bad monitor. Far from it. If you need a cheaper option than the three above, that still lets you see what’s going on with your twins but doesn’t break the bank, this is a great choice.

Motorola MBP38S-2 Digital Video Baby Monitor

Pros

  • Great picture quality
  • Remote camera control
  • Temperature control

Cons

  • Bad battery life
  • Sometimes interferes with Wi-Fi

This is an excellent monitor with two cameras, but it’s not the best baby monitor for twins. It’s a shame, because what this delivers is excellent, but it just falls short with one major problem. But if you can get past that, this is a fantastic monitor.

First off, the camera quality is great, with really crisp, easily visible pictures that make it simple to see what’s going on at the other end. It’s got a night vision mode, and split screen viewing options, as well as the ability to dim the screen and adjust sound levels, so you’ve got complete control. Plus the cameras themselves are controllable from the monitor, with a pan and tilt feature so you can follow every movement.

There’s also a temperature gauge, as well as two way communication.

So what’s the downside? Really short battery life, and a weak charger. Which doesn’t help, considering how often you’ll be charging this. If you can get past this, though, you’re going to have an excellent monitor for your twins, that’s just as easy to use as it is excellent.

AXVUE E612 Video Baby Monitor

Pros

  • Large screen display
  • Two cameras can be used separately
  • Great picture and sound quality

Cons

  • Battery issues
  • Beeps loud when the battery is low
  • Should be mounted high enough

The package comes with a 4.3” TFT-LCD screen that produced high-quality picture and sounds. It can be installed in a long distance for up to 800 ft and has privacy wireless transmission. It can support up to 4 cameras in total. Two cameras can be paired, you can select designated, or auto-scan all. The two-way talk feature is great because parents can talk back to the camera. It has automatic IR night vision.

The picture quality is impressive and the two-way communication and sounds work well. It has a large and clear display monitor, and you can use the separate cameras in two different rooms.

One drawback is that although the monitors can carry a charge, the batteries do not last as long as expected. Others say if you use it long enough, the batteries do not charge any more than you have to keep the monitors plugged in for it to work. It also beeps so loud when the battery is low and wakes up the kids.

The design has some flaws as well such as the cord comes out of the top instead of the bottom, and the camera mount can only move at about 275 degrees and not full 360. So it should mount at a very good distance or very high up to get a good view of the room. Overall, it is a great baby monitor that gives you value for your money.

Best Pregnancy Pillow: Get Your Sleep Back on Track

0
Best Pregnancy Pillow

If you’re pregnant, you need the best pregnancy pillow. Why? One major thing that a lot of women struggle with as they move through the stages of pregnancy is sleeping troubles, because of the back pain and joint issues that come with the increased strain and stresses placed on your body.

Most of the issues are caused by a lack of adequate support, and if you can correct this, then you solve the issue.

Pretty much the best way to do this, if not the simplest, is to grab a body pillow.

What Is a Pregnancy Pillow, and What Types Are There?

There are three varieties or shapes, and they’re all good for different situations.

Wedge Pillows

Wedge pillows are the smallest and simplest type of pillow, and like the name says, it’s a little wedge that’s designed to slide underneath you, to give your body the support it needs throughout the night.

Wedges are designed to supplement your natural shape, which is why you might have seen them all over hospitals. As one of the cheapest options available, wedges don’t take up too much room and are great for supplemental support, and excellent to prop up your regular pillow, but we wouldn’t recommend them as a main pillow.

Full Length Pregnancy Pillows

Full length pillows offer much more support, and they’re designed to take the place of all of your regular pillows, and more.

Full length pillows are great to cuddle, with a flexible, shaped style that’s designed to curve around and support your entire body.

They’re great to cuddle, as well as excellent to snuggle up into and sleep. On top of that, you can use them to sit up with, and they’re excellent for breastfeeding.

The two general styles of full length are C shape and U shape. C shapes are designed to curve around your body, so you lie with it behind you and enclosing your body, especially your back.

U shaped pillows are designed so that you sit in the middle of it, with both arms of the U on both sides of your body. They offer a little more support than C styles, but because you’re fully enclosed, they’re slightly less adjustable, and a little bit hotter.

Does It Have a Removable Cover

Removable covers make it so easy to clean, and considering how often you’re going to be facing sweaty nights as you go further into your pregnancy, it’s definitely something you should be looking for. That’s why all of our choices have removable, machine washable covers.

Is It Hypoallergenic?

You might scoff, but pregnancy does a number on our bodies, and even girls who have never had any issues with allergies can come out in sniffles and rashes from something as simple as duck down.

That’s why a hypoallergenic filling is the best choice.

How Big Is It?

Different sizes are better for different women, but it’s hard to recommend, because it’s mostly down to personal preference. Smaller women will probably get on better with smaller pillows, but sometimes being completely swamped and covered all over can feel good too.

It’s best to experiment. Perhaps try surrounding yourself with pillows, and see how it feels.

It’s also worth checking how big it is compared to your bed. You partner is probably already making space for you anyway, but adding a gigantic pillow to your bed might crowd him out and make him lose all of his space.

How Firm or Soft Is It?

Softness and firmness is another thing that comes down to personal preference, and it can change wildly as you go through the stages of pregnancy.

Again, experiment. Think about the types of pillows and mattresses you already have, and buy accordingly.

Pregnancy Pillow Reviews

Leachco Snoogle Total Body Pillow

best pregnancy body pillow

Pros

  • Patented design designed by medical pros
  • 100% cotton, removable, washable cover
  • Perfect shape for all over support

Cons

  • Cover is hard to get back on

Always recommended, for over ten years, Leachco’s body pillow is always a winner, no matter the situation.

It’s a C shape pillow, with a well made, perfectly shaped contour that fits all but the very largest women absolutely naturally. Whether you’re a petite little five foot nothing, or closing on six feet, you’re going to be able to snuggle up inside this, giving you all the support you need as you go through the stages of pregnancy.

Usable in various positions, this pillow is excellent for general use as well as at night. U shaped pillows can be harder to use like this, but a C shaped pillow like this one is ideal to prop you up on the couch or for reading in bed.

The cover is removable and fully washable, as well as being soft and comfy because of the 100% cotton construction. Be warned though that the cover is damned hard to get back on, unless you get the zippered version.

Apart from that though, this gives any woman, not matter how far along, the comfort she needs for a long, restful night’s sleep. If I needed one right now, I would definitely buy this one.

Full Body Maternity Pillow w/ Contoured U-Shape by Lavish Home

best pregnancy pillow for twins

Pros

  • Incredible support
  • Zippered cover is easy to remove and wash
  • Huge and easy to snuggle into

Cons

  • Very firm
  • Takes up a lot of space

Our favorite U shaped pillow, with its huge size and snuggly soft cover, Lavish Home’s contour pillow offers all the support any woman could need.

The first thing you’ll notice with this is how big it is. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. A good thing because it gives you maximum support and allows you to be supported across your entire body, so bad backs and waking up sore is a thing of the past.

However, because it’s so big makes it an issue for your partner. If you’ve got a big bed, then you’re good to go, but smaller beds with this pillow in are going to crowd out your poor suffering husband. So I hope he likes sleeping on the couch! Bear in mind that this pillow is quite firm, though. Now, I personally recommend this, because once you’re used to the firmness, it is so much better. But some people have trouble with it, so it’s something to think about.

One of the awesome things about this pillow, apart from the comfort, is the washable cover that comes as standard. It zippers on and off really easily, which makes keeping this pristine as simple as throwing it in the washer.

If you want a U shaped pillow, this is our top choice. Because of its size, its also really good to sit up with, which makes this great for twins, because you can also use down the line when you’re breastfeeding them both.

U Shaped Pregnancy Body Pillow with Zipper Removable Cover

Pros

  • Really attractive design
  • Hypoallergenic, extra soft filling
  • Zippered, removable cover
  • 90 day guarantee

Cons

  • Can get warm
  • Soft, so can flatten with use

Another U shaped pillow, this one is a lot softer than the Lavish Home pillow, so if you’re looking for a softer pillow rather than a hard one, this is a better option.

Apart from that, they’re pretty similar. Both feature a washable, zipper closed cover which is so simple to remove and clean. It’s made from high density polyethylene, which is completely hypoallergenic, resistant to compression and retains fluffiness for longer.

This is also slightly smaller than the previous U shaped pillow, which makes this much more partner friendly. You might even both be able to use the same bed if you buy this!

Another tiny bonus is that this is really cute, so you’ll love throwing it on neutral or white bedclothes and seeing it stand out.

One of the big things that make this a recommended pillow though, is the guarantee and return policy. It’s hard to know what’s going to be comfortable when you’re pregnant. Especially with all the changes going through your body. So it’s nice to know that you can grab one of these, and if you don’t get on with it, just send it back. But I think you’ll love it.

J Shape Full Body Pregnancy Pillow

Pros

  • Huge, almost 5 feet long
  • Easy to clean
  • 100% polyester and hypoallergenic

Cons

  • Gets hot fast

Our second C (they call it J) shaped pillow, this is a great choice if the snoogle doesn’t take your fancy.

Hypoallergenic, soft and resistant to flattening, it’s incredibly comfortable, and really supportive all the way across your entire body. It’s large, but because of the shape it’s not oversized for bed use, especially with someone next to you. The white, zippered cover is easy to remove and tough, but simple enough to wash just by throwing into the wash.

So why this one rather than the snoogle? Simple. Size. The snoogle is a little smaller, but this is pretty big, which is great for larger women, or just girls who want something with a little more size around them. Plus it’s easier to wash, which is nice, because we all know those long nights get sweaty.

J pillows are great, and a lot easier to use than U shaped pillow in my opinion, so if you want something that’s easy to clean and really goddamn comfy, grab one of these.

hiccapop Pregnancy Pillow Wedge for Maternity

Pros

  • Super soft cover
  • Airflow ventilated design
  • Easy to travel with the carry bag
  • Switch firmness in seconds

Cons

  • Not a full body pillow

Whilst we wouldn’t recommend a wedge pillow as our first choice, grabbing a little wedge pillow is something I would always go for, because it makes dealing with tiny niggles or supporting the parts of your body that need it most so easy.

Whilst wedge pillows are relatively simple, there’s a lot to love about this Hiccapop wedge pillow. First off, it’s so easy to move and reposition. Larger pillows are relatively hard to manoeuvrer, especially if you’re feeling a little less comfortable. But this can be moved in an instant, and fits everywhere. Plus it’s really easy to bring with you, whether you’re just sitting on the couch and getting some rest or heading out of the house.

In terms of support, this is really impressive. It’s made of solid memory foam with two choices for firmness, and changing it is as simple as flipping it over.

Plus it vents heat really well, because of the perforated foam layer, so you aren’t going to overheat with this.

For the best support possible, I’d recommend both this and one of the C and U shaped pillows we’ve already reviewed. It’s really the best of both worlds.

Restorology Full 60-Inch Body Pregnancy Pillow

Pros

  • Good design
  • Provides great support
  • Made with high-quality materials

Cons

  • The cover is hard to put back on

The design is perfect for pregnant women because it follows the shape and natural contours of the body. It provides comfort and full support. It supports your head, neck, back, and your belly. The unique shape of the pillow can relieve pain, supports the head, and prevent sciatica, which is common in pregnancy. You can also find relief from heartburn and lower back pain when you use this pillow. It also enables you to sit up comfortably in bed.

This pillow is made with high-quality materials. The cover is soft and the pillow is thick. You will feel like a baby swaddled because it wraps around you wonderfully and you will get the long and nice sleep that you need.

It has a removable cover that is easy to clean or wash. Although the cover is easy to wash, it is somehow quite difficult to put back on. You might have to exert a little bit of effort. If it is too long for you, you might find it a little uncomfortable.

Meiz U-Shaped Body Maternity Pregnancy Pillow with Zipper and Removable Covers

Pros

  • Ergonomic design
  • Provides full support
  • Soft, thick, and fluffy

Cons

  • Paper-like thin covering the pillow tears easily.

This is made with high-quality 7d polyester with soft velvet cover. The filling material is extra soft and high-density because it is made with Bionic-Polyethylene that provides ultimate comfort. The pillow is soft, thick, and fluffy. You do not have to worry that it flattens out easily. It remains fluffy for longer use. It is versatile and functional.

The cover is removable and easy to clean. However, some users find one thing that seems to be problematic. When you remove the cover to wash, there is a paper-like cover that holds the pillow together. It is paper-like thin and tears easily.

The U shape design follows the natural shape of the body. It offers full support for sleeping on the side, reading, sitting up in bed and watching TV, and even for breastfeeding. Users love its multi-functional design and the comfort it brings. You will be able to get a good night’s sleep with this pillow.

It offers full support for the head, neck, belly, sides, knees, hip, and feet. It is also ideal for pain relief when you are suffering from sciatica, leg swelling, and back pain. Using this pillow can help prevent other issues like hypertension, oppression of the liver, and other pregnancy discomforts.
