38 Weeks Pregnant with Twins: Ultrasound, Symptoms, and More

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 38 Weeks

38 weeks pregnant with twins. This is it. This is when they’re considered to term, which means that this is the week that you’re statistically most likely to go into labor.

That’s something to bear in mind if you’re going for a natural birth. In the mean time, here’s what you might face in what might be your last week pregnant with twinnies!

Your twins could come any day now. They’re pretty much as big as they’re going to get, now, and could be anywhere up to 20 inches tall, and weight somewhere between 6 and 7 pounds each.

They might also have hair by now. Anywhere up to an inch!

Remember that the hair they’re born with isn’t the hair they’ll necessarily have a few months from now, so if you and your partner are both blond, and your baby is born with a healthy crop of dark hair, don’t be alarmed.

At 38 weeks, your baby should also have very little of the vernix caseosa left on their bodies, but there might still be a little bit of white on them when they first say hi.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 38 Weeks

Your body should be ready to go right now, and it’s winding up for the big day. Here’s how it’s going to affect you:

  • Braxton Hicks contractions: Like we just said, your body is winding up everything it needs for labor day. That’s why you might be experiencing BH contractions. But like we’ve said all along, don’t get them mixed up with real contractions. Simple differences: They shouldn’t hurt, won’t last long or be regular, and stop if you move about.
  • Sleeping issues: You’re under a lot of pressure right now, body and mind, so sleeping can be difficult. Just get what rest you can, and try to relax.
  • Itching or sensitive stomach: Your belly is stretched to full capacity holding your twins, and so is your skin. Moisturise as much as possible, and drink as much water as you can to hydrate your skin from the inside.
  • Swollen legs and feet: Your body is holding more fluid anyway, and everything else can contribute to a little bit of swelling on the lower half of your body. Just keep your feet up as much as possible when you’re resting, and get as much light exercise as you can. Even a few minutes of walking can make a huge difference.

38 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

If you’re having scans this week, it’s the same as it has been for the last few weeks. Simple check ups to see your progress and make sure that everything is going fine.

You’ll see your OB every week, to check what position your baby is in, (whether they’re head down and ready for delivery or still head up).

You might also be having a pelvic exam this week, to see if your cervix is dilated, a sure sign that your body is getting ready to get those babies out!

Things To Do this Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

Refresh yourself on the big signs of labor:

  • Contractions: Sounds obvious, but when you’ve been having Braxton Hicks contractions for the last few weeks, real contractions might not even register at first. Remember, real contractions come regularly, won’t stop even if you get up and move around, and they hurt.
  • Water breaking: This is a huge sign, and might come as both the Hollywood sudden gushing of water, or a slow, regular trickle. Be on the look out for both, especially if you’ve had some vaginal discharge already.
  • Nausea and sickness: It doesn’t happen for all women, but a large number report feelings of sickness or nausea before they started going into labor.
  • The mucus plug: If you have vaginal discharge that’s particularly thick or bloody, it could be a sure sign that you’ll go into labor soon.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 37 Weeks

You’re 37 weeks pregnant with twins, which puts you oh so close to that big day. Whether you’re delivering via a C section, or going for a natural birth, the next couple of weeks are going to be incredibly exciting.

Good luck, girls, and lets go!

The list this week is pretty much the same as last week. If this is your first time here, read on:Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 37 Weeks

Your babies are putting on an ounce a day now, and they’re going to keep gaining weight at roughly that rate until they’re born. Right now, they’re about 18 to 19 inches long, and weigh over 6 pounds!

If they haven’t already, your babies will be practicing all of the essential skills that they’ll need out here in the real world, like blinking, sucking their thumbs, grabbing hold of things, and breathing.

Finally, their immune systems are ready to go, and strong enough to keep them safe on the outside world, although your breast milk will definitely help with that!

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 37 Weeks

  • Pelvic and abdominal pressure: Your babies are dropping into a head down position, ready to be born, and that puts increased pressure on your pelvic area anyway. But your body is also loosening ligaments and tendons, to make the eventual birth a whole lot simpler. Don’t worry. Once the birth is done, you’ll be right as rain.
  • Stretch marks: As your babies get bigger, they’re going to put more strain on your already taut belly. So if a few new stretch mark show up, don’t be surprised.
  • Sleeping issues: You might have trouble getting to sleep. Or you might just wake up in the middle of the night with really vivid, random dreams and won’t be able to get back to sleep again. Either way, just get what rest you can. Even if you have to nap during the day.
  • Spotting: This far into your pregnancy, you might experience a little bit of spotting. That’s completely normal, especially if you’re still sexually active. Just keep an eye on it if there’s more than a few drops of blood. That could be a sign that you’re having placenta problems, and that will need immediate treatment.
  • Heartburn and digestive discomfort: Still experiencing this. Still no fun. You might also experience…
  • Nausea: In addition to the heartburn and digestive problems, you might start feeling nauseous again. (I bet you thought that was all gone and dealt with weeks ago.) Pay close attention to this, because it could be a sign that you’re about to go into labor.

37 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

You might be having another scan this week, just to make sure everything’s progressing fine.

Don’t expect anything different this close to the end of the journey. Now you’re just waiting for the last big push. (We had to use that pun. Don’t hate me!)

Things To Do this Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • If you haven’t already, you might find the nesting instinct kicking in hard soon. You’ll be looking at your house with a critical eye, moving things around, cleaning everything, and probably pulling things you haven’t seen in months from cupboards and wondering exactly why you ever bought them.
  • You’re probably pretty immobile right now, and exhausted too. It’s fine to ask your partner for more help, especially if you’re having a bad day. Apart from that, try and get some well deserved relaxation.

Your Twin Babies at 36 Weeks Pregnant

Your twins should be pretty much ready to go. Right now, they’re about 18 inches long, and around 5.5 pounds each. Yes, you’re hauling around almost a stone’s worth of baby now. Crazy, right?

You might also realise that, at 5.5lbs, your twins are heavy enough now that they wouldn’t officially be underweight if they were born tomorrow.

That’s reflected in how they’re doing, too. Circulation, immune system, kidneys and liver are all working fine. Soon, they’ll be ready to breathe out in the real world too.

Finally, your twins gums will have become rigid, ready for their teeth to start coming through, all those months in the future. Which I’m sure you’ll realise, as soon as you start breastfeeding!

If they were born now, most twins would only have to spend a few days in the hospital, and that’s fantastic.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 36 Weeks

  • Pelvic aching: As your babies sink lower, ready for birth, they put more pressure on this area, which leads to aches and pains.
  • Heartburn and other digestive problems: Same as the above. Because your babies are putting more pressure on your lower organs, your digestive system isn’t going to be working with the same verve as you might be used to. As you hit the last few weeks of pregnancy, stay off of spicy and fatty foods.
  • Swollen legs and feet: You’re more likely to see this, because you’re carrying twins. It should only be minor though. If you experience sudden swelling, that’s not a good sign, so let your doctor know.
  • Issues sleeping: Ignore the pain and discomfort you feel lying down. Ignore the fact that hormones make it harder to get to sleep. Ignore everything else, and you’d still have trouble sleeping, because of all the things on your mind. Just get what rest you can, and look after yourself as much as possible.
  • Vaginal discharge: You might see more discharge in the coming weeks. This is your body getting ready for the birth, so don’t worry. But if it’s watery, discolored, or has blood in it, call the doctor immediately.
  • Being able to breathe again: As your twins descend, ready for birth, they’re going to free up space in your chest cavity, so finally you’ll be able to take deep breaths again!

36 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

Your scans now will be checking whether your twins are ready to be born, and the primary signifier of this is whether they’re head down and good to go, or still head up, or ‘breech.’

If they are still breech, it’s not a reason to panic. Yet. There’s still time for them to turn around naturally, and if not, then your OB should be able to give you some techniques to try and convince them to maneuver naturally.

Failing that, there’s always the hands on approach, which can be mildly uncomfortable, but work arounds half the time.

If you didn’t have your Group B Strep test last week, you might have it this week.

There’s nothing to worry about, just a basic swab test to see if you’re carrying a bacteria that’s harmless to adults, but can cause problems with newborns. If you do, you’ll be given an antibiotic, and that should clear it right up.

Because you’ve got twins, you’re also likely to have a regular biophysical profile test, which might be this week.

You should have already had one, but just in case this is your first, it’s a standard ultrasound, with non invasive sensors to check your babies heart rate and other vital signs.

Things To Do this Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • If you’ve decided on a C-section delivery for your twins, make sure it’s scheduled in with your doctor.
  • You’re pretty much there. Final check time! Go over everything, one more time. Is the nursery ready? Is your hospital bag packed? Have you decided on names yet?

35 Weeks Pregnant with Twins: Ultrasound, Symptoms, and More

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 35 Weeks

You’re 35 weeks pregnant with twins! You’re so close!

Considering most twins are born only a few weeks from now, if that, I’m sure it’s got you wondering.

Every movement of your babies, every little cramp and ache down there, and you’re thinking about whether it’s finally the big day! But is it? Maybe not yet. If you’re still on the journey, read on to find out what this week holds.

We’re sure you’re used to these symptoms by now. After all, you’re almost eight months into your twin pregnancy (Click here for more twin pregnancy information).Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 35 Weeks

Right now, your babies are almost at birth size and weight, measuring around 18 inches from top to toe, and weighing anywhere up to 5 or 5.5 pounds, which is around the size of a small honeydew melon!

In terms of looks, they’re basically identical to how they’ll look when they’re finally born, so if they come a little early, they’ll generally be fine, if a little lighter than standard.

They’re also probably moving into a head down birth position, which you might be feeling over the coming few days.

If they haven’t, then there’s a few things you can do to encourage them, including bouncing on a birthing ball, sitting on a chair facing the backrest and rocking gently, and getting onto all fours and moving your hips around.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 35 Weeks

  • Constantly needing to pee: This is only going to get worse as your babies move down over your pelvis. Just go to the loo as often as you can, and make sure you don’t get dehydrated, because that can bring on early labor.
  • Constipation: Yes, you’re going to have issues from both ends. Except this one is the opposite. Try and eat a high fibre diet, and if you have to, ask your doctor what medication is okay to take whilst pregnant.
  • More aches and pains: You’ll be feeling pretty achy over the coming weeks, but on the upside, there’s a good reason for it this time. Your body will start to relax ligaments and tendons all around your lower body, to make everything easy and ready for delivery day.
  • Braxton Hicks: The contractions are still coming, and they’re possibly even getting stronger. Like we’ve said all along, they’re nothing to worry about as long as they don’t last too long, and they stop when you move. If they last a while, you get several in one hour, or they don’t stop when you move around, let your doctor know immediately.

35 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

In the coming couple of weeks, you should have a group B Strep test. This is a simple swap of your genital area that checks for a common, and for adults harmless bacteria.

If you have it, it won’t do anything to you, but it could cause issues with your babies at birth, so if they find any traces, you’ll be given antibiotics to kill it early, before your due date.

In the mean time, expect all the standard tests and scans. You might be seeing your doctor for another ultrasound this week, and you’re probably also seeing your OB again.

Things To Do this Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

Now is the perfect time to go over the signs of labor. Bear in mind that the expected due date for twins is around week 37, and 1 in 10 singleton moms have a premature birth as well, so knowing this is really important.

Here’s the big three signs. If you get any of these, or a combination, it’s time to grab your hospital bag and get in the car.

  • Painful contractions: The big difference. The pain. Braxton Hicks contractions feel tight across the belly. But if you’re getting pain across your abdomen, belly or back, it could be real.
  • Regular contractions: Real contractions won’t stop, for any reason. It’s the opposite. They only get worse. Your doctor should have told you when it’s time to call in, but as a rule of thumb, when they’re 5 minutes apart for a first pregnancy, and around 15 minutes apart for second and further pregnancies.
  • Your water breaking: This is the one that everyone remembers, because it’s all over film and TV. Unlike all the shows we’ve seen, sometimes water breaking comes as a slow, gentle trickle over time, rather than one gushing waterfall.

Your Twin Babies at 34 Weeks Pregnant

For the past couple of weeks, your baby’s senses have been working properly, and even listening to the outside world.

This means that they can hear you, listening closely to everything you say and everything you do. So be careful what you’re saying, because they’ll hear it all!

You might have been singing for your babies before, but you should definitely start doing it now. Experts say that babies actually recognise the songs that were sung to them in the womb, and respond favorably to them.

Both of your babies are around 17 inches long now, and weigh at least 4.5 pounds. They’re the size of a large butternut squash, and they’re only going to get bigger!

If you’re monitoring your babies kicks, (and you probably should be) you might notice that they feel a little different in the last few weeks.

This isn’t your babies slowing down, which you might have heard before. It’s just that it’s getting a little cramped in there, especially since you’re carrying twins, so kicking out gets a bit more difficult.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 34 Weeks

This week is pretty much the last week that you can expect any new symptoms, so from here on out, don’t expect to see anything you haven’t seen before. This week, expect:

  • Affected vision: You might occasionally find yourself with blurry or slightly off vision in the next few weeks. This can be caused by multiple issues, including fatigue, fluid build up in and around the eyes, or our favorite friend, hormones.
  • Tiredness: This one’s obvious, and you’ve definitely dealt with it by now, but as the weeks roll on, your get less and less sleep and your babies put more and more strain on your body, it can only get worse. Just make sure you get as much as rest as you possibly can.
  • Constipation and haemorrhoids: The heavier your babies get, the harder it gets to go to the toilet, leading to constipation. Because you’ll be straining whenever you need to do your business, plus the pressure of your children, you’re likely to develop haemorrhoids at some point. All you can do is eat a balanced diet, high in fibre, and make sure you’re hydrated. In most cases, you’ll go back to normal as soon as your babies are here.
  • Swelling and aching legs and feet: Keep off your feet when you can, stretch, and elevate your feet when you can. It’s okay to rest. We’re into the last two months after all.
  • Braxton Hicks contractions: If you haven’t had these by now, even as just a little bit, we’d be surprised. This is just your body getting used to the mechanics of birth, and getting ready for that big day. If it starts to hurt, or it gets regular, always contact your doctor, just in case you’re going into premature labor.

34 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

You’ve almost definitely got an appointment this week, an antenatal with your OB who will run you through everything that you’re going to need to know when it comes time for the birth.

You might have questions including what your pain relief options are, how your birth plan is going to go, and what to do when your waters break and you start getting contractions.

In the next few weeks, you’re going to be seeing you OB a whole lot more, as much as once a week,  because there’s a whole lot of tests coming. We’ll deal with them when we come to them, though.

You might also have a barrage of tests, especially since you’re pregnant with twins. Expect an ultrasound and non-stress test, to check up on everything and make sure that everything is going fine.

It’s completely normal, since you’ve got twins, to have these frequently. As often as every couple of weeks, so don’t worry if your doctor insists on booking you in again when you’re leaving.

You’re 33 weeks pregnant with twins. You’re into the final two months! We’re pretty sure you know you’re pregnant now.

You should have put on around 30 to 40 pounds, and we bet you’re feeling a little slower and a whole lot more tired.

As your babies move further down towards your pelvis, you might even start to adopt the pregnant lady walk. But that’s okay. It’s just another sign that your babies are that much closer to be born.

At 17 inches long and weighing between 4 and 5 pounds, your twins are about the size of pineapples right now. So no wonder you’re feeling the strain!

Your babies are also learning how to breathe alongside swallowing and sucking, ready for their big day in the limelight.

Finally, your babies skeletons are still hardening, toughening up all through their body, except for their little skulls, ready for their birth day!

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 33 Weeks

  • Overheating: You might not feel like hot stuff, but your body certainly does. Your metabolism is in overdrive, so your body temperature will be through the roof. Wear loose, flowing clothing, and take it easy.
  • More headaches: There’s so many reasons you can get headaches anyway, and pregnancy can make all of them just a little bit worse. Hormones can cause them, so can tiredness, dehydration and stress. If you’re feeling rough, get some rest and stay hydrated.
  • Loss of breath: If your babies haven’t dropped yet, then they might still be crowding out your ribcage a little bit. If this is your life, then make sure you take it easy, especially if you start to feel a little woozy.
  • Pregnancy brain: Forgetfulness is a major symptom of late pregnancy, even though it’s not scientifically proven. There’s a lot on your mind anyway, so take it slow.
  • Exhaustion: Your body is taking a beating, but you’re almost there now. Just a few more weeks. Eat properly, stretch and take some light exercise, and get as much good sleep as you can. This late into your pregnancy, sleep can be a particular issue, and it might be worth picking up a pregnancy sleeping pillow. They can be a massive help when it comes to getting comfortable in bed at night, especially when you’re carrying twins.

33 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

Unless there’s a specific reason for you to be scanned, it’s unlikely you’re going to have a scan this week, but if you did, you’d see your babies happily looking around at the world inside of you when they’re awake.

However, certain forms of twins are higher risk than others, which can lead to you needing a lot more scans than other moms might.

If your doctor has informed you that you need more scans, it’s not a sign that there’s going to be something wrong, just that your babies need a little more care than others.

Make sure you’re eating right, getting enough rest, and if possible, get some light exercise in. Swimming is great, because it’s low impact and takes a lot of the pressure off of your body. Pregnancy yoga is another option, and one we’d definitely recommend.

If they haven’t already, your babies will soon start transitioning to a head down position, ready for their first big journey.

Either way, if it hasn’t already, in the next few days you might feel a difference in the way that you’re carrying, with your twins moving from high up to down near your pelvis.

Bear in mind that this isn’t a guarantee, though. It might not happen until you’re in labor, so don’t worry if you don’t notice anything different.

Either way, you’ll definitely notice them, considering each of your babies is around 16 inches long and up to 4 pounds in weight. That’s the size of a large cabbage, or a squash!

They’re looking good, too. Skin is plump and smooth, because of all the weight they’ve put on in the last few weeks, and they’re completely in control, looking around, reaching up for themselves and out for their twins with their strong little arms. They’ve even got developed fingernails!

You’ve probably picked up on their routine by now, especially if you’re tracking their kicks (you should be,) but they’re also practising loads of other things that you can’t see, including breathing, swallowing and sucking.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 32 Weeks

Don’t expect anything new this week. But the symptoms you’ve already been dealing with are going to get stronger. A lot of moms say that heartburn and BH contractions tend to intensify around the 32nd week, so get ready to deal with that!

  • Braxton Hicks contractions: We just mentioned these, and they’re only going to get stronger over the next few weeks, as your body prepares itself. As always, if they become painful, regular, or don’t stop if you change your body position, let your doctor know, because that could be a sign of pre-term labor.
  • Heartburn: All that pressure on your digestive system takes its toll, and heartburn is going to get increasingly likely over the next couple of weeks, especially as your babies shift into a head down position.
  • Leaking nipples: We told you nothing would change. But if you haven’t already experienced this, don’t be surprised if your boobs start leaking this week. It’s just a trial run for the all important days after you give birth!
  • Darker nipples: This one you might not expect! It’s caused by hormones, (what else, right?) and oddly, no one knows why it happens. But don’t worry, they’re going to go back to how they were after you stop breastfeeding.
  • Vaginal discharge: You might not want this, but it’s your body’s way of getting ready for what’s coming up. More discharge means less chance of infection, and better protection for your babies. Just make sure that it’s not thin and watery, because that could be a sign that your waters have broken already.

32 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

If you’re having a scan this week, there’s a good chance you’ll see that your babies have shifted position in a big way. There’s a very good chance that they’ll be pointing downwards, head down and ready to go.

You’re pregnant with twins, so your doctor is likely to suggest bi-monthly scans, just to make sure everything’s going on right in there. (More pregnancy info here).

You won’t have to do anything special at any of these scans. They’re just simple ultrasounds to monitor your twins, and make sure that there’s no late term complications, or anything that could interfere with your delivery.

Things To Do this Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • Double check your health insurance. Call your company if you have any questions, or you don’t understand anything.
  • If you haven’t already, start planning a name. It’s a great thing to bring up at your baby shower, and if not, there’s a lot of great resources out there you can use. All it takes is a simple Google search.

Whilst there’s always a chance you could run over, because you’re carrying twins, you know as well as we do that you’re more likely to deliver them a few days early instead.

This last stretch is heavy going for a lot of moms, but we know you’ve got what it takes to crush it. After all, you’ve come this far, right!

This doesn’t mean that it might not still be difficult, and you’re well within your rights to take a few hours to relax on harder days. Just as a reminder, here’s what you can expect this week:Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 31 Weeks

Your Twin Babies at 31 Weeks Pregnant

Every one of your babies’ senses are active and working right now, so they’re completely aware of what’s around them.

They’re still putting on that vital weight, too. Another third of a pound over last week, putting them at around 3.3lbs, and almost 16 inches long.

When you next see your babies on a scan, you’ll also notice that they’re in proportion now, with lengthy, strong arms and legs.

They really are getting stronger, too, with enough grip strength to hold onto a finger, which they’ll be using a lot once they’re born, we’re sure.

You might also have noticed that your babies have their own patterns of sleep and wakefulness, as well as periods of activity.

You should be tracking their movement with a regular kick count like we said to a few weeks back, so you can know their routines, as well as giving yourself an early warning if anything goes wrong.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 31 Weeks

Your symptoms aren’t going to change in the next few weeks. They’re just going to get a little bit worse. But thankfully, you’ve had a lot of experience dealing with it all, so you should know what to do by now to make yourself feel as good as possible.

  • Pregnancy brain: Whether you want to believe it or not, it’s definitely a thing. Lack of sleep and hormones can contribute, but you might just find yourself feeling woozy and forgetful, with no good reason. If this happens, don’t worry about it. Just remember, your smartphone is your friend.
  • Lack of breath: As your babies get bigger, you’re going to notice shortness of breath and maybe even a little trouble breathing. This is going to get worse over the next couple of weeks, until your babies start to descend towards the pelvis a little more, giving you space to breathe again.
  • Aches and pains: The bigger your babies get, and the more they weight, the more strain there is on your body. So expect your aches and pains to get a little worse over the next few weeks.
  • Leaking boobs: Your boobs are ready for your babies’ first meal, so they might already be leaking small amounts of colostrum milk.
  • Constant urge to pee: All this pressure on your bladder isn’t good for control, or the sanctity of your undies. Go to the toilet as often as possible, and drink little and often, rather than overloading yourself with fluids.
  • Braxton Hicks contractions: They’re still here, and still coming, as your body is still practising for the big day. As long as they’re not frequent or painful, Braxton Hicks contractions are absolutely nothing to worry about.

31 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

If you didn’t have an ultrasound last week, you might be lined up for one this week, especially because you’re carrying twins, just so your doctor can check up on everything going on in there.

If there’s any complications, such as gestational diabetes, it’s also possible that your doctor wants to check up on you more often as well. Either way, you’re in safe hands, so unless you’re specifically told of a risk, it’s not worth worrying more than usual.

Another choice that you might have considered is a 3D/4D ultrasound scan. If you’ve seen them before, you know that they’re a fantastic memento of your pregnancy, as a full scan and video of your babies faces in the womb.

In fact, it’s even possible to see facial expressions change, and for them to do things like suck their thumbs.

Talk to your doctor about the possibility of this procedure, but if they don’t offer it, you can always approach an independent imaging centre to get it done yourself.

They’re surprisingly inexpensive, especially if you book it early. And we’d recommend booking it early, considering you never know when your twins might decide to come say hi!

Things To Do this Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • Do you have everything you need? It’s going to be a lot easier to get it now, rather than in the last few weeks of your pregnancy, not to mention the chance that your twins might come early! Make sure the nursery is set up, and you have all the essentials packed and ready to use.
  • When you’re considering whether you have everything, one thing you might overlook is baby proofing. Remember, with things like this, too early is just early enough. It’s so easy to miss something obvious, and getting it done now lets you go back over it closer to the due day.
  • Why not set up your Baby Registry?

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 30 Weeks

You’re 30 weeks pregnant with twins! That means next week you’re down to the last quarter! That’s huge.

Whether you think this has taken ages, or you can barely remember the last few weeks because they’ve gone past far too far, you’ve done incredibly well.

Now we’re into the last few weeks, everything’s going to come even faster, so it’s vital that you get everything ready and waiting.

You’ve probably put on close to 30 or 40 pounds by now, so your body is definitely feeling it. Here’s what you can expect over the coming weeks.Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 30 Weeks

A little bit longer, a whole lot heavier. That’s how your babies are doing this week. They might have grown half an inch or so, to about 15.5 inches, but they’ve put on near half a pound, weighing somewhere near 3lbs each now.

That means each twin is around the size of a zucchini.

As a soon to be parent of twins, you’re probably aware of the fact that preterm labor is a thing with your little ones. On the upside, you’re now far enough along that if they are born early, they have a really good chance of survival, so you can relax a whole lot more.

Inside their bodies, their brains are wrinkling up, as their brains develop and get ready for the outside world. Not only that, but their digestive systems are almost ready to go, waiting for that day when they finally see the outside world!

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 30 Weeks

  • Sleeping problems: There’s a lot on your mind, which would make it hard enough to sleep anyway. But with the strain on your body and the fact that you’re pumped full of hormones, it’s going to be even harder. Just do what you can, get comfortable, and relax as much as possible.
  • Overall aches and pains: You’re getting bigger, and the strain on your body is that much higher. Plus, you’re a long way in, and your body hasn’t had a chance to properly rest in weeks. Get whatever rest and recuperation you can, and try and treat yourself.
  • Lack of breath: Your twins are getting ever bigger, which leaves you with so much less space to breath deep and expand those lungs. Pretty soon, your babies should move closer to your pelvis, which will give you room to breathe again.
  • Heartburn: Your digestive system doesn’t know what’s hit it these past few months, and it’s not over yet. If one food in particular keeps triggering heartburn, avoid it as much as you can. Food diaries can really help here

If everything’s been fine so far, your doctor might rule that you don’t need a scan yet, but as you’re carrying twins, it’s far more likely that you’re going to have a 30 weeks scan.

You might even have a biophysical exam done, which is an ultrasound as well as a non-stress test (NST,) or fetal heart rate monitoring.

If you’ve been told you’re having one of these, don’t worry. Like the name suggests, it’s not stressful, completely non-invasive, and only takes a little while. It’s just sensors put on the outside of your belly to monitor your babies heart rates and make sure everything is going on great in there.

Things To Do this week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • Carefully monitor your weight. If your weight suddenly increases by a huge margin, or you get a significant jump in weight that you aren’t expecting, tell your doctor immediately. It could be a sign of pre-eclampsia, which can develop into a major problem.
  • Do a hospital trial run, to see how long it takes you to get there. If you can, we recommend doing it in heavy traffic, and coming home when the traffic is a little clearer, so you know the worst case scenario. Trust us, it’s a huge weight off your mind when you know you can get to the hospital with no issues at all.

  • If you don’t already, get yourself some compression socks. Not only can they help you now with foot/ankle swelling and varicose veins, they can help maintain the blood flow around your legs during the time you will be bedridden.
  • Similarly to compression socks, it’s worth getting a postpartum girdle. We did a whole post on these here. This is our favorite.
  • Why not set up your Baby Registry?

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 29 Weeks

29 weeks pregnant with twins means you’re into the last three months of your pregnancy!

As we get closer to your due date, everything’s going to start coming faster and faster, so take some time for yourself now and try and get everything sorted now, whilst it’s still easy.

Your Twin Babies at 29 Weeks Pregnant

Your babies aren’t going to get much bigger from now, but they sure as hell are gonna get heavier. Expect their weight as much as triple over the coming months, which, when you think about it, is incredible. Except on your poor hips and back.

They’re around the same length as last week, normally somewhere near 15 inches long. But right now, they’re weighing in at close to 2.5 pounds. That’s the same as a butternut squash!

Whilst your baby is putting on weight, there’s a lot that they’re losing, too. First is the vernix, the white layer that kept their skin protected when it was still thin and vulnerable.

They’re also slowly losing hair. On their bodies. The lanugo that covered most of their body early on is fading away, and will probably be entirely gone by the time they’re born.

Don’t leave your baby shopping too late. Check out our newborn twins shopping list.

You should be gaining weight fast now, around a pound a week, as your little twinnies pack on the pounds. In the meantime, expect all of this as well:

  • Sensitive or itching belly: As your belly gets bigger, the skin gets thinner, because it’s far more stretched out. That means it’s more sensitive, and could be a lot more susceptible to itches and rashes. Keep yourself moisturised and hydrated, and let your doctor know if you struggle with anything in particular.
  • Aches in your whole lower half: You might get pain in your back, hips, legs or feet, because of all the extra weight you’re carrying, and the strain on your body. Hormonal changes are also softening your joints and ligaments to make it much easier for your eventual delivery, which can increase the pressure on these parts of your body.
  • Sleep deprivation: You might be struggling to sleep right now. A lot of women have problems sleeping in the third trimester, and that can lead to wooziness and lack of focus. Get as much rest as you can, and make sure that you’re treating yourself as healthily as possible, including diet. Make sure you get a pregnancy pillow to help you sleep.
  • Constipation and haemorrhoids: Your twins aren’t just putting pressure on your joints. Your intestines and other digestive system have increased weight and strain on them. This can lead to stomach issues as well as trouble going to the loo.
  • Constant needing to pee: Your uterus is expanding, and crowding out on vital space everywhere. Including where your bladder normally sits. So when your bladder expands, you’re going to feel it. You might even have issues when it comes to holding your bladder, especially as you get closer to your due date

29 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

You’re going to be feeling a whole lot more movement right now, because your twins are lacking a little bit in space.

You’re probably not going to have a scan this week, unless you’re having an early 30 week scan, but if you did, you’d see the membrane that separates your twins growing strong in there.

You’d also notice that your twins are getting a little chubbier, as they put on more and more fat.

Things to Do This Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • Consider your maternity leave. Work out how much you’ve got, and whether you’d prefer to use the majority of it before or after your birth. It’s always worth talking to your boss and working through your best options.
  • Pack a hospital bag, in case of early delivery. You’re carrying twins, so the chance of early delivery is higher than for a singleton child, so it’s great to be prepared. Keep it by the door, packed with everything you might need, just in case!
