Twins After Chemical Pregnancy: What is a Chemical Pregnancy?

A chemical pregnancy is when the egg and sperm have created an embryo. The embryo is trying to form but, for whatever reason, it does not implant or can implant but does not stay. It is estimated that 50% to 70% of women experience a chemical pregnancy miscarriage. This is challenging to accept, as expectant parents overcome miscarriages even as chemical pregnancy IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatments were performed.

Many women do not know that they were pregnant, as it is uncommon to experience basic signs at 4 weeks pregnant symptoms. Unless you have been trying to conceive, have undergone fertility treatments, or have a history of miscarriages; you may not even have a 4 weeks pregnant ultrasound. It is likely that a 4 week ultrasound will not be provided by your doctor as the fetus cannot be detected.

Heavy Implantation Bleeding With Twins

If you have missed your period, you can take a pregnancy test to see if you are pregnant. Though 4 weeks symptoms of pregnancy are highly unlikely, the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels can be measured on a basic pregnancy test. These hormones are released by the embryo after implantation. Should you take an over-the-counter pregnancy test, and it comes up negative, be sure to see your doctor if you suspect a pregnancy.

Your doctor can put in an order for a chemical pregnancy test to be conducted. This is a fancy way to say that you will be given a blood test. Should hCG levels be too low to detect on a standard pregnancy test, the chemical test results will be able to accurately detect a pregnancy.

What are The signs of an Early Miscarriage With a Chemical Pregnancy?

One of the reasons why women may not know they were pregnant was due to early miscarriages. The signs of an early miscarriage could include vaginal spotting. Light brown to dark pink bleeding may occur. Keep in mind that bleeding can happen when the embryo implants itself within the uterine lining, as it breaks apart tiny blood vessels in your body.

Spotting or bleeding are not the only signs on file. Women report symptoms of severe cramping, when experiencing a chemical pregnancy. Think of it as a painful cramp that you may have relating to your period.

Can Miscarriage Cause Infertility?

Here is some good news, as many miscarriages are a sign that you can get pregnant. It is a matter to find out why the embryo did not implant or shattered after implantation. Doctors may want to inspect the quality of the eggs and sperm.

For males, a sample of their sperm can be tested within the doctor’s office. For females, blood work can be performed or some of the eggs can be removed for more intense research. Sadly, miscarriages are devastating and happen quite frequently. The silver lining is that you know you can get pregnant.

Are There Ways to Prevent Miscarriages in The Future?

There are things you can do to minimize the risk of future miscarriages. One of the best things to do is to take care of yourself. After having a miscarriage, you may experience physical and emotional pains. Address these and speak openly with your doctor and loved ones. Surrounding yourself with a great support group will be helpful to aid in emotional healing.

Stop drinking alcohol, taking drugs, or eating unhealthy foods. Start drinking more water, taking prenatal vitamins, and maintaining a healthy diet. By improving your health regime, you are increasing your chance of having a successful pregnancy.

Are Twins Possible After Having a Chemical Pregnancy?

Yes, twins are quite possible after a chemical pregnancy! There are certain aspects that can contribute to having higher chances of a twin pregnancy. One such aspect is that fraternal twins do run in families. Fraternal twins are likely to happen due to hyper ovulation. This is a result of more than one egg being released during a menstrual cycle, known as hyper ovulation. It is more likely to happen in women who are over the age of 35.

If hoping for identical twins, that can be a bit trickier to attempt. Identical twins happen because of egg splitting. Having an identical twin pregnancy happens naturally and has zero factors to consider.

Women may try to lose weight prior to getting pregnant. However, studies have found that women with a higher body mass index (BMI) are more likely to carry twins. As previously stated, maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Another way to try and have a twin pregnancy is through fertility treatments. These can include medications like Clomid and Femera. Medical procedures, such as IVF, can also result in having a twin pregnancy after a chemical pregnancy.
