Everything You Need to Know about Multiple Gestation Pregnancies

0
multiple gestations

Multiple Gestations are pregnancies which involve more than one baby at a time, such as twins, triplets and quadruplets. About 3% of all pregnancies are classified as such and their occurrence can be quite random.

While multiple gestations are super exciting and oftentimes completely unexpected, there are quite a few things to consider when carrying more than one baby. For example, are you prepared to bring up multiples, what are the birth complications associated with multiple gestations and how to minimize the risks?

Answers to all of these questions and more await you in this article.

What Causes Multiple Births?

Multiple gestations occur at random, but if you have a family history of twins, triplets, or quadruplets, your chances of having multiple births are increased.

Multiple Births

Another favorable factor for multiple gestations is fertility treatments, which make it more likely for you to ovulate two or more eggs during a menstrual cycle. Generally, women over 35 years of age are more likely to release more than one egg per cycle, regardless of whether they’ve had fertility treatments or not.

Scientifically speaking, if a woman ovulates more than one egg during her menstrual cycle each egg has the potential to be fertilized by sperm. If each egg is fertilized, more than one embryo can grow in the uterus and this will result in fraternal twins (or more), or also referred to as non-identical. When a single fertilized egg divides into multiple genetically identical embryos at random, identical twins (or more) will develop.

Usually, fraternal twins are much more common than identical twins, but they’re both a blessing for the new parents.

What Are Some Common Multiple Gestations Symptoms?

Wondering if you are having twins, triplets or quadruplets? Then you should read more into the pregnancy symptoms you are experiencing. They are very similar to those that occur during a singleton pregnancy, only they are much more exaggerated.

Here are some of the most common symptoms which can indicate that you are having multiple gestations pregnancy:

  • Severe morning sickness and nausea. To ease this quite unpleasant pregnancy symptom, we recommend you to use peppermint essential oil. The DoTERRA Peppermint Beadlet Essential Oil is a highly-trusted special blend with proven results. You can directly inhale from the bottle, put a few drops on a cotton pad or in a diffuser. Moreover, the convenient beadlets are ideal for traveling and on-the-go, because you never know when your nausea will strike in
  • Severe breast tenderness. We found a product that works wonders in terms of alleviating breast tenderness during twin pregnancy, and is also ideal for post-pregnancy when you might experience some breastfeeding challenges. The Lansinoh TheraPearl Breast Therapy Pack provides therapeutic relief for breast tenderness by offering both cold and hot therapy. Simply store it in the refrigerator or the freezer to activate its cold therapy potency, or put it in the microwave to reap the benefits of the hot therapy.
  • Faster weight gain. They always say that if you’re having twins you’re eating for three and that couldn’t be truer. Significant weight gain during multiple gestations pregnancies is quite common but that shouldn’t worry you. In order to make sure you stay healthy and don’t overindulge try to switch to a more healthy diet and eat regularly without overeating
  • Abnormally high levels of hCG (the pregnancy hormone)

hcg levels for twins

  • Larger belly compared to most women at a similar stage of pregnancy
  • More than one fetal heartbeat. There have been a few cases of health care providers detecting a second heartbeat before they can actually see the second fetus on an ultrasound. However, this is quite rare, because it’s hard to distinguish two heartbeats, especially if they’re in sync or close to being in sync.

Twin Pregnancy Ultrasound: When Do You Find Out You’re Expecting Multiples?

Most likely you’ll find out that you’re expecting twins or multiples around week 6 – week 10 through a twin pregnancy ultrasound. This is the only secure way to be sure you’re expecting twins or multiples.

Nevertheless, ultrasound scans are not perfect since they take a sonographic image of what’s going on beneath the surface, and there is a small chance that the ultrasound won’t detect a second fetus. This can happen if the second fetus is hiding behind the other one when they’re sharing the same amniotic sac, or if the ultrasound is done too early on.

For that reason, it’s best to have a second twin pregnancy ultrasound after week 20, since that’s when the results will be certain (in most cases). And don’t forget that the results are being read by a human, so you should always leave some room for error.

You should also monitor your symptoms as mentioned to determine if you’re having a multiple gestations pregnancy, and listen to your motherly intuition.

What Are Some of the Birth Complications Associated with Multiple Gestations?

Multiple gestations pregnancies are considered high risk, because there are quite a few birth complications that might occur, including:

  • Fetal conditions, such as problems with fetal growth
  • Anemia
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Preeclampsia
  • Miscarriage and preterm birth

two newborn twins

Preterm birth is the most common birth complication associated with multiple gestations pregnancies. In fact, more than one half of all twins are born preterm, and triplets and multiples are almost always born preterm (before week 37). A preterm birth is when you start having contractions and true labor after your 20th week of pregnancy and more than 3 weeks before your due date.

Most premature babies are usually put in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) due to the health complications that might occur, such as breathing and eating problems, learning and behavioral disabilities. They will stay in the NICU until their immature systems are stabilized.

Throughout your multiple gestations pregnancy you will need to put extra care in monitoring your health and that of your babies. This will continue after they’re born, and although you might feel helpless while your babies are in the NICU (if so), there are certainly things you can do to show care for your angels, such as bring home their laundry, bond with your multiples and love them. It’s best to speak with your health care provided to get advice on how you can be helpful in such a situation.

Having Twins: What Do I Do Now?

Congratulations, you’re blessed with multiples! This is an exciting time for the whole family, but can also bring some anxiety in terms of the post-birth preparations. Don’t worry, it’s not as hard as it seems.

Before you go to the hospital for delivery make sure you pack all the essentials, such as extra blankets, diapers, bottles, socks and booties, comfy clothes for you, and most importantly – a going home outfit for your twins. We are sure that they’ll look absolutely stunning in the Miracle Onesies by TwinStuff – the perfect “welcome to the family” outfit that everyone will love.

Multiple Gestations: What Else is Important to Know?

With multiples on the go there are quite a few things to know. First of all, you should consider yourself lucky if you’re having twins or more, because multiple gestations pregnancies occur in about 3% of all pregnancies. Carrying multiples means having the same symptoms as a singleton pregnancy, but more severe. Still, there are things you can do to alleviate the discomfort. You will find out you’re expecting multiples around week 6 – week 10 of your pregnancy through an ultrasound. Once you know you’re having multiple gestations pregnancy it’s time to start planning the “welcome home” of your babies.

Can a Hidden Twin Be Detected During a Twin Ultrasound?

0
Odds of Having Twins

Can a hidden twin be detected during a twin ultrasound? How much can you trust an ultrasound scan? While the possibility of a hidden twin is very unlikely these days, there is still a very small chance that this can happen to you.

Pretty much every pregnant woman has her doubts about expecting twins and multiples, especially during the first weeks of pregnancy. But what feeds these doubts even more is the endless stories of women who go to the hospital to give birth thinking they’re having a single pregnancy, but instead end up having two (or more) babies. What a surprise!

While the chances of this happening are minimal, it’s still worth considering that possibility, so that you can be prepared for an unexpected unfolding of the events.

How Do You Know If You’re Pregnant with Twins?

Yes, a twin ultrasound is the more secure way of visually identifying that you’re carrying twins. In most cases if your doctor doesn’t see multiple babies on the screen then you’re unlikely to have twins of multiples. Still, there are those very few occasions when the ultrasound is not 100% accurate, but we will get to that in a little bit.

When Are Twins Usually Born

Apart from relying on an ultrasound scan, you can also be on the lookout for some of the more intense symptoms associated with a twin pregnancy. While the symptoms during a twin pregnancy and a single pregnancy are pretty much the same, these signs might be a green light for twins-on-the-go:

  • Excessive weight gain or fatigue. You are eating for two, at the end of the day
  • Severe nausea and morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum is more common in twin pregnancies). A proven cure that alleviates nausea and morning sickness is peppermint essential oil. We love the DoTERRA Peppermint Beadlet Essential Oil which is an insatiable blend or aromatic goodness. You can directly inhale from the bottle, put a few drops on a cotton pad or in a diffuser. Moreover, the convenient beadlets are ideal for traveling and on-the-go, because you never know when your nausea will strike in
  • Abnormally high levels of hCG (the pregnancy hormone)
  • Repeatedly measuring large for your gestational age at your prenatal exams

Lastly, there is your motherly intuition, which is entirely up to you if you want to trust or not.

Can a Twin Go Unseen in an Ultrasound?

While in most cases ultrasound scans are amazing, they are not perfect.

Ultrasound scans are used not only to detect how many babies you’re having, but also what is the gender of your baby or multiples. This is where the imperfection of ultrasounds really comes into play. We’ve all heard the stories of families thinking they’re having a boy until the minute their child is born and they welcome a girl to the family. That happens so because the 2D sonographic image of the ultrasound captures what’s going on beneath the surface and can easily mistake a vulva for a penis.

If we apply this same thinking to twin ultrasounds we are likely to give the device more room for error. The bigger your babies are the more likely they’re to be detected by a twin ultrasound, but sometimes ultrasounds are done too early in the pregnancy and one or more of the babies are not ready to show their faces in front of the camera just yet.

Why Can a Twin Remain Hidden?

There are multiple reasons why one of the babies might be hiding and subsequently not be detected by the ultrasound.

First of all, a second fetus should be clearly visible on ultrasound after 20 weeks of pregnancy. If you’ve had your ultrasound before 20 weeks of pregnancy, there is a chance that the results might not be accurate considering how tiny the fetus is before that point. Once you enter the third trimester the accuracy of your ultrasound scan increases.

Another possibility is that your twins share the same placenta and the same amniotic sac, which increases the likelihood that one twin could be hiding behind the other during an early ultrasound. These twins are called monochorionic monoamniotic (or mo/mo twins). If, however, you are expecting dichorionic/diamniotic (di/di twins), which have separate placentas and a separate amniotic sac, your two babies will easily be detected by the twin ultrasound.

Can an Ultrasound Miss Twins

In some cases a single ultrasound might not be enough to detect a second fetus, so make sure you’re having at least a few of them throughout the 9 months of your pregnancy. When you’re 26 weeks pregnant with twins, it’s really important to have an ultrasound and monitor closely the critical development of your babies.

Of course, you shouldn’t leave out the human error factor. It is humans looking at the ultrasound scan, at the end of the day, and we are far from perfect as a species. Plus, sometimes it’s nice to let things unfold in a surprising way.

What About the Heartbeat?

Interestingly, there have been a few cases of health care providers detecting a second heartbeat before they can actually see the second fetus on an ultrasound.

However, this is extremely rare and it doesn’t always indicate that there is a hidden twin. It may simply warrant another ultrasound scan. Also, it’s really difficult to distinguish two heartbeats, because they can be in sync or your own heartbeat might be sending mixed signals.

How to Prepare for a Hidden Twin?

If you don’t entirely trust the twin ultrasound up until the last minute and have serious doubts about the number of babies that will come out of you, then it’s worth coming prepared. Especially, if you’re the type who doesn’t like surprises.

So what can you do to prepare yourself for the delivery of twins or multiples? Obviously, there is no need to overboard and buy every single baby gear in pairs. However, it’s worth it to take a few essential items with you to the hospital, such as:

  • Extra blankets to wrapped your babies up. The Upsimples Baby Swaddle Blanket is super adorable and comes in a variety of cute patterns. But most importantly, it’s extra soft, made from 70% Bamboo and 30% Cotton. The blankets come in a set of 4 and are easily machine-washable for extra ease.
  • Going home outfits for your twins: we absolutely adore the Born First – Show Off Onesies by TwinStuff, and they’re perfect for that moment of surprise. Plus, they would look awesome on your first family photo at the hospital
  • Extra babies essentials: bottles, socks and booties, blanket, diapers

Twin Ultrasound: Can be Trusted?

Ultrasound scans are a trusted tool for determining the gender and the number of babies you’re expecting, yet they’re far from perfect and we should always leave some room for error when having a twin ultrasound. The possibility of a hidden twin is quite minimal, but it still occurs. There are several reasons why the second fetus might want to shy away from the camera, such as a super early ultrasound, or the positioning of the second baby. To avoid any unwanted surprises always make sure you have a twin ultrasound after 20 weeks of pregnancy, and always come prepared.

When Do You Find Out the Gender of Twins?

0
when do you find out the gender of twins

You’ve already found out that you’re expecting twins and that’s incredibly exciting news of its own. But now comes the follow-up question that doesn’t leave you in peace: What gender are my twins?

When do you find out the gender of twins depends on quite a few factors, such as are expecting fraternal twins or identical twin babies, and many more. We’re going to look at those factors, as well as, the different ways you can get a sneak peek into your babies’ gender.

Once you know the gender of your twins, you can start preparing for your new family members, but we’ll get to that in a little bit.

When Is Gender Determined?

The earliest you can find out the gender of your twins is when you’re 10 weeks pregnant with twins through blood tests, and your twins will also be tested for Down Syndrome. If you decide to have an ultrasound around the 12 to 13 weeks of your twin pregnancy, you will also find out what gender your babies will be. Many couples find out their baby’s gender at the fetal survey appointment, which is around 20 weeks.

And others decide to keep the gender reveal a secret and be surprised at birth. That way, you’re only letting your motherly intuition guide you. As much fun as this might sound, some parents might feel a bit intimidated by the unknown and might start stressing out about getting ready for the arrival of their twin babies.

gender predictor

How Can They Tell Gender from Blood Tests?

For the impatient parents, and also the concerned ones, any type of chromosomal testing will determine the gender of your twins as early as week 10 of your twin pregnancy.

Noninvasive parietal testing (NIPT), or also called Cell-free fetal DNA testing gender reveal (cfDNA), is usually done to screen for Down Syndrome – something which is definitely worth getting checked for. As a bonus, you will also learn the gender of your twins, because the blood sample will include DNA from both babies.

If your NIPT test indicates the presence of a Y chromosome, which is present in the XY chromosomes of males, you’re expecting at least one boy. Regardless, you will still need to wait for your ultrasound to give the final determination of two boys or boy/girl twins. If NIPT doesn’t show any Y chromosomes, it’s most likely that you’ll be having twin girls.

When Do You Find Out the Gender of Twins?

Ultrasounds are a must during twin pregnancies; because there are quite a few complications that might occur. But that shouldn’t worry you, because that’s what ultrasounds and other tests are for.

If you’re lucky you might even be able to find out the gender of your twins during your very first ultrasounds at around weeks 12 to 13. By lucky, we mean that your babies must be positioned in a way that is easy to read both of their genders. Oftentimes one of the babies might be blocking the view of the second one, but it’s worth giving it a try.

Nevertheless, if you wait a little bit longer ultin week 16 to 18 and are in the hands of a competent physician you will most likely find out the gender of both twins during your ultrasound.

How to Care for Your Preemie Twins While in NICU?

0
preemie twins

If your twins are born prematurely – don’t worry, because this is quite common for twin babies in comparison with singleton pregnancies. In fact, about half of all twins are born prematurely (before week 37). A preterm birth is when you start having contractions and true labor after your 20th week of pregnancy and more than 3 weeks before your due date.

Most premature babies are usually put in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) due to the health complications that might occur, and until their immature systems are stabilized. Doctors, nurses and medical staff will monitor your babies’ health closely throughout that time.

It’s normal to be stressed about the situation, but unfortunately, you have little to no control over it. You might even have to ask for permission to touch your babies, but most of the time you will be watching them through the window of the incubator.

Nevertheless, you still can show care for your preemie twins as research supports the importance of parental nurturing of twin preemies. Here is what you can do to form a bond with your newborns during their NICU stay.

How Long Do Premature Babies Stay in NICU?

First, let’s start with some good news. Advances in medical care mean that the outcomes of premature births are more positive, and even the tiniest of babies have a great chance of surviving and living long healthy lives.

premature twins

The chances of complications and the duration of your preemie twins’ stay in the NICU are determined based on the category your babies are in. They are generally categorized the following way:

  • Extremely preterm (or also called micro-preemie): Babies born at or before week 28. Typically ready for discharge two to three weeks before their due date unless there are complications
  • Very preterm. Babies born at or before week 32. Usually, go home a couple of weeks before or right around their original due date
  • Moderate preterm. Born from 32 to 34 weeks of pregnancy. The discharge varies anywhere from just after birth to a few days or a few weeks
  • Late preterm. Born from 34 to 36 weeks of pregnancy. The discharge varies anywhere from just after birth to a few days or a few weeks
  • Early term. Born between 37 to 39 weeks of pregnancy. Most babies in this category don’t have to spend any time at all in the NICU. At most, it will likely take a few days to a few weeks maximum

How Can You Help Your Preemie Twins?

It’s definitely not easy seeing your twin preemies in the NICU feeling helpless. But you don’t have to feel that way, because there are certain things you can do to help your babies. To find out to what extent you can be of help, speak with the doctors at the NICU.

If your twins fall in the late preterm or early preterm, category and are in a non-critical state, then you will most likely be allowed to feed them, change their diapers and assist with other small procedures.

If you aren’t able to handle them on your own, you can help in other ways, too. For example, you can take their laundry home to wash, bring blankets, etc.

Perhaps the most important way you can help as a mother is by pumping breast milk for your babies. We recommend you use the Haakaa Manual Breast Pump, because it lets you express milk using the power of natural suction. Made out of silicone, this manual breast pump is lightweight, portable, and designed to suit all kinds of breasts. Moreover, it is recommended by nursing mums, magazines, celebrities, doulas, and lactation consultants all over the world, so make sure you get yours, as well.

two newborn twins

Breast Milk is super critical for the progress of premature babies because it contains vital nutrients that help to prevent infection and promote growth. Even if your babies cannot receive breast milk at first, you can freeze the pumped milk for later use.

How to Bond with Your Twin Preemies?

As parents of preemie twins, you will want to create that special family bond with your babies but you might feel like this is hindered by the fact that your babies are kept in the NICU. Still, there are certain things you can do to bond with your newborns.

For example, you can create a recording of your voice talking, singing, or reading to your babies. There is nothing more soothing and comforting than a mother’s voice. You can also put up pictures of loved ones from your extended family so that your babies can start familiarizing themselves with their family members.

Why not personalize the incubators with stuffed animals, name tags, and comfy cushions? Get each of your babies the Bedtime Originals Choo Choo Express Plush Elephant – Humphrey, and they will feel like a piece of you is always there with them.

Get to know your babies. Observe their movements and gestures, what they like, what their reactions are. These are precious creatures that just need some love and attention to grow into healthy humans. Use this time to take pictures of them every single day and to document the progress of their development. They are your survivors, at the end of the day, and you will really appreciate the progress they’ve made when you look at those pictures.

How to Stay Positive During This Time?

Yes, this is a really hard period for the whole family, but it’s definitely not the time to get discouraged. You are the biggest support network your babies have right now and your role is to simply be there for them and love them.

Spend as much time as possible with them even if you’re only allowed to look at them and perform small chores. You’ve given them the best gift ever – that of life, so help them sustain it. Try to stay as positive as possible and be thankful for every single breath of your little angels.

A good way to stay positive is to plan for the future when your babies are out of the NICU and you’re ready to welcome them home. Have you thought about what they’re going to wear on the day they’re being released and for their very first family photos? Imagine how cute they’d look in the Miracle Onesies by TwinStuff? As the slogan reads, “sometimes when you wish for a miracle – you get two”. Cherish your two miracles!

Preemie Twins: How to Handle?

Having preemie twins is one of the hardest things for new parents to handle, because of the many potential complications and the risk to the life of your newborn babies. Instead of developing severe anxiety, however, there are certain things you can do to help the growth process of your preemie twins while they’re in NICU.

The preterm category your babies are in will determine how much you can actually help. The most important thing you can do is provide breast pump milk for your babies, create a special bond with your newborns, and simply show them love and care.

Table for Two Twins, Please! Why Do You Need One?

0
table for two twins

Synchronizing your babies’ schedules has been the most optimal way of tackling tandem feeding until now. When Lindsey Sandefur invented the Table for Two Twins it completely revolutionized how we feed our twins.

If you haven’t thought about getting one by now, this article will explain why you need to get one and how it will change your life.

You might think that you already have enough twins furniture, but we urge you to think twice when considering buying a table for two twins.

What Is a Table for Two Twins?

The motto behind the Table for 2 product is “Life is better when twins dine together.” This couldn’t be truer. Perhaps the biggest struggle for parents of twins are feeding their babies at the same time. This task usually involves the help of the two parents, and if one is left on their own, it becomes a total disaster.

This secure, sturdy twin feeder saves time, energy, and sanity and makes mealtime more comfortable for you and your twins. Table for Two is a must-have product for all parents of twins!

So what does the Table for 2 feature? From Infant Feeding Table to Toddler High Chair

You’re probably wondering how you will feed your twins once they become toddlers. Although Table for 2 is the ideal infant feeding table and suitable for young toddlers, you might want to look for an alternative once your babies grow significantly.

The most obvious choice is a high chair, a great convenient option for tandem feeding your toddler twins. We love the Baby Trend Sit Right High Chair because it’s one of the safest, easy-to-use, most convenient options that support your twins in developing their tastes and flavors as they grow.

It features 6 heights and 3 recline adjustments to ensure that your toddlers are sitting in the best feeding position. This Sit-Right High Chair is easy to clean, foldable, and has a dishwasher-safe tray insert.

Another great feeding twins furniture for toddlers is a portable, stable chair that you can bring to a day at the beach with your twins, camping, or a garden party. The hiccapop Omniboost Travel Booster Seat with Tray is ideal because it features a gentle restraint system ergonomically designed to keep even the most wiggly toddler in place and cozy. It’s also made for ease of use because the buckles are easily released using only one hand. This is the perfect twin baby stuff item to have handy at home.

Useful Feeding Twin Baby Stuff

When it comes to feeding your babies, it’s not all about the infant feeding table. There are quite a few other items involved in the perfect twins feeding

For example, you need the best bottles to bottle-feed your babies. We love the Comotomo Baby Bottle because it’s designed to mimic breastfeeding closely to reduce bottle rejection and nipple confusion issues. Moreover, the dual anti-colic vents prevent unwanted air intake and reduce colic. Choose between the Comotomo Baby Bottle in Pink for your twin baby girls and the Comotomo Baby Bottle in Green for your twin baby boys.

Another extremely useful baby feeding item that will make your life 10 times easier is a bib. Babies can get super messy when being bottle-fed, especially if they tend to be fussy eaters, and investing in a baby bib will save you lots of hassle.

The Womb Mates Matching Bibs by TwinStuff are ideal for that purpose. They are ultra-soft and breathable and made from 100% cotton. But most importantly, they are super funky and adorable – definite twin-baby stuff must-have.

Where to Find Cheap Twin Baby Stuff?

We understand that bringing up twins might not be the cheapest luxury in the world. It’s not enough to buy baby gear for one baby, but now you have to invest in lots of twins’ furniture, some of which can be pricey.

The twins’ furniture options we give you are a mixture between the best quality and the most affordable price, so you can never go wrong with them. But if you want something extra affordable, we recommend you look for used twin baby items for sale.

Many websites offer top-notch second-hand baby gear at amazing prices, such as threadUP, Mercari, and Poshmark. It’s also worth joining some of the many baby swap groups on Facebook and seeing what you can find there.

Table for Twins: Lifesaver

You do not need to spend endless hours trying to tandem feed your infant twins. The Table for Two Twins is a lifesaver for you and your babies. It’s a unique long-term investment, and it comes with tons of useful features. Once your twins are grown-up toddlers, it’s best to invest in a high chair and a portable baby chair for those memorable days at the beach.

But what makes the perfect twins’ feeding experience isn’t just a good infant feeding table. Rather, there are quite a few baby items that are worth getting to facilitate easy baby feeding.

8 Must-Have Baby Beach Accessories for Twins

0
baby-beach-accessories

Can you smell that hot deciduous summer sneaking behind the corner? You imagine sunbathing in the blazing sun, drinking mojitos and reading a book you can’t leave. The perfect relaxing afternoon by the sea with your sweetheart or your girlfriends.

But bringing your babies to the beach might not look exactly like the description above. Although you are sure to have loads of fun surrounded by constant laughter and giggles, there are quite a few complications you need to consider. And if you come unprepared… well, then prepare for disaster.

If you don’t want your dreamy day at the beach to be ruined, rather to cherish the very first beach moments of your babies, then you should plan all the baby beach accessories you will need in advance. Don’t know what baby beach accessories to bring? Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered!

1. Have You Got Your Baby Beach Accessories Packing List?

We are all very well familiar with the many benefits of checklists – they save us in the hardest of times. Getting ready for a magical day at the beach with your babies is no exception.

Since there are quite a lot of baby beach accessories involved we recommend you using a checklist notepad such as the one by MUJI. The simple design allows you to scan the list with ease and you can write as long of a list as you wish. The best thing is that you can use the MUJI Checklist Notepad for multiple purposes – something really handy when you have double-trouble at home.

Before you set off for your day at the beach with twins make sure you go over your beach checklist for baby essentials, and you are sure to have a great day.

2. Baby Beach Sunscreen Lotion

Sunscreen lotion is one of the most obvious beach must-haves, but you will be surprised by how often people forget to bring one, and that leads to an instant regret.

In order to protect your babies’ sensitive skin from the sun, we recommend you using the Babyganics SPF 50 Baby Sunscreen Lotion UVA UVB Protection that comes in a pack of two – perfect for your two angels. We love this sunscreen lotion because it’s formulated with organic ingredients and is made with the environment in mind. One customer said: “I always buy Babyganics sunscreen for my kids! It seems to be the safest option out of reviews I have read for their skin”.

3. Baby Beach Bonnet

To ensure that your babies are fully protected from the sun, it’s advised to invest in a baby beach bonnet.

We love the i Play. Brim Sun Protection Adjustable Hat, which comes in different colors and will suit your twins whatever the gender. It’s made from a quick-drying material for active play, and has an extra neck protection and a stay-put tie strap. That way you will be sure that none of your twins’ skin will get sunburnt.

4. Beach Pack and Play

If you are bringing your baby twins to your day at the beach, then it’s likely that they wouldn’t want to just lie on the beach and sunbathe like you do. Your babies will be overly-excited by their fun surroundings and will want to go everywhere.

To avoid the extra trouble of running after your twins all the time, it’s best if you bring a portable beach Pack and Play, where your babies can play safely in. The Regalo My Portable Play Yard is perfectly suitable for both indoors and outdoors. Designed with a simple fold and go mechanism, it’s super easy to carry and set-up. Plus, it’s water resistant!

5. Baby Beach Chair

Other essential baby beach accessories that will make your life easier is a baby beach chair. It will keep your babies safe and is perfect for messy eaters.

Our personal favorite is the hiccapop Omniboost Travel Booster Seat with Tray, which is ideal for a day at the beach, camping or a garden party. It features a gentle restraint system, ergonomically designed to keep even the most wiggly toddler in place and cozy. It’s also made for ease of use, because the buckles are easily released using only one hand. This is the perfect baby beach accessory.

Oh, and don’t forget to bring some matching bibs for your little messy eaters, such as the Drinking Buddies Twins Baby Bibs – they’ll save your life.

6. Baby Beach Water Bottle

We all know how important it is to stay hydrated. This is especially relevant when it comes to spending a lovely day at the beach with your precious twins. Although your babies most likely already have their own water bottles and they’re probably fine to use at the beach, you should make sure that the water bottle you get will keep the drinks cool. There is nothing worse than drinking warm water under the sun.

That’s why the Tommee Tippee Insulated Sportee Toddler Water Bottle with Handle is the ideal baby beach accessory. It is double-wall insulated, bite-resistant, and spill-proof. The ergonomic design is comfortable for tiny hands, and little ones can stay hydrated longer because of the sports bottle’s insulated core.

7. The Best Beach Towel for Babies

There is nothing more adorable than kids getting excited about their beach towels. I remember choosing one each year with the utmost excitement in my heart.

Your twins most likely already have their favorite kids show characters, so getting them a baby beach towel featuring one of those characters is a winner. But if you’re looking for something more unisex we recommend you the Luvable Friends Unisex Baby Cotton Animal Face Hooded Towel which is made with 100% woven terry cotton and is super adorable. Choose between a range of funky colors and enjoy a memorable day at the beach with your twins.

8. Baby Beach Bag

Have you thought about where you are going to store all these amazing baby beach accessories? Considering the amount of baby beach gear you need to bring it’s best to invest in a large baby beach bag with loads of compartments.

We love the FITFORT Mesh Beach Tote Bag with Detachable Beach Cooler, because it has absolutely everything you will ever need in a baby beach bag. It has the capacity of 12 bottles of drink and 4 big towels ,whose side pockets are designed to hold most of your sunscreen cream, phones, sunglasses, beach toys, and so on. Made from a PVC mesh which is anti-sticky and keeps items dry and odor-free, just shake it and the sand shall leave your sight.

Don’t forget to pack some comfy, easy-to-put-on clothes to change your babies into at the end of your beach trip. The Miracle Onesies by TwinStuff are ideal for that, and are also super adorable.

How to Throw the Perfect Virtual Baby Shower?

0
virtual baby shower

Just because the whole world is on stand-by due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it doesn’t mean that you have to cancel your twins’ baby shower. Instead, enter the virtual baby shower. All you need for this is a good internet connection and your friends and family from all over the globe can join.

Actually, virtual baby showers are not something new. Rather, they’ve been around since the early 2000s and many military families, for example, have been benefiting from the advanced technologies.

Although you don’t get to see the faces of your loved ones, there are many perks to a virtual baby shower, such as lower costs for the host, social distancing regulations, and more convenience for the guests. Finally, your best friend from the other end of the world can be there for your significant event. Moreover, you’re not really missing out on the fun, because many of the things you would usually do at a traditional baby shower can be easily replicated online.

If you haven’t hosted a virtual party beforehand, don’t worry. It’s time to dive headfirst into virtual baby shower planning to ensure that you throw an unforgettable online baby shower for the mom-to-be.

Where Should You Host the Virtual Baby Shower?

Luckily for you, there are tons of online platforms where you can host your online baby shower, and you just have to pick the one that’s most convenient for all the guests and that offers the best-uninterrupted connection.

[amazon-banner]

You can go for one of the most popular online platforms, such as Zoom, Google Meet, and Skype, and they should be easy-to-use even for the not so tech-savvy guests. Zoom allows each participant to customize their Zoom baby shower background, and Google Meet also offers some fun virtual backgrounds to play with. Keep in mind that Zoom is capped at 40 minutes per call, but that should be enough time to do all the activities you’ve planned.

Social media is also a good “venue” for hosting a virtual baby shower, given that all the participants have their individual social media accounts. Simply create a twins baby shower Facebook event and use the integrated video chat system through Facebook Messenger. Just make sure the event is set to private. Facebook offers exciting filters and even group games that you can make use of.

Alternatively, you can invest in a platform that is specifically made for virtual baby showers and it’s called WebBabyShower. For just under $80, which is still cheaper than the average in-person baby shower, WebBabyShower offers tons of baby shower features in just one place, from customizable themes and unlimited invitations to games, a private photo, and video album, and links to your virtual baby registry.

Whichever platform you decide to use for your virtual baby shower you are sure to have lots of fun.

Do I Need to Make a Baby Shower Schedule?

Since you only have a limited amount of time to host the perfect online baby shower, you need to make sure that you’ve planned the timeline very precisely. Of course, you don’t have to adhere to the baby shower schedule super strictly, but some basic guidance will do you justice.

twin girls baby shower

Decide how long the baby shower is going to be and plan ahead when you’re going meet and greet, play games and when the mom-to-be is going to be opening gifts. After you’ve prepared the baby shower schedule, send it to everyone on the guest list to keep them in the loop.

What About the Invitations?

There are two ways you can go about this part of the virtual baby shower planning and both are guaranteed to be appreciated by the guests.

If you are a fan of the old pen and paper you can send the invitations for the online party via mail. This allows you to add a personal touch to the invites and you can pick some really quirky ones. We love the Rustic Woodland Virtual Baby Shower Invitations. The unisex design is ideal for a twin’s baby shower and will go along perfectly with the rest of your decorations and games.

Your other option is to send out digital baby shower invitations. There are quite a few digital invitation apps and websites that allow you to customize your designs, such as the Minted online shower invitations, and the Evite baby shower ones. Feel free to browse and pick the ones that match the most theme of your party.

The best thing about digital invitations is that you can add as many details as you wish. This is the place to include a link to the party “venue” and the virtual baby registry (we hope that the Best Friends Matching Onesie is on the list). Also, mention that the guests should be sending gifts to the mom-to-be, so she can open them during the party. Moreover, sending online invitations helps you do the headcount and know how to plan the baby shower schedule.

Decorations and Food

Although the party is taking place in the online space you still need to think about the food and the decorations. Make sure to send some balloons and a banner to the mom-to-be so that she can decorate the room she will be sitting in during the virtual baby shower in advance.

We love the Oh Babies Banner in Gold Glitter, which is ideal for a twins baby shower and will add an extra sparkle to the party. It’s pre-strung so the twin mom will have to put minimal effort in arranging it, and she can space the letters as much as she needs to in order to fit the camera.

diapers baby shower game

If the budget allows it you can send lunch/dinner party favors for all of the guests from a local bakery, or give everyone a set menu so they can prepare it themselves. Additionally, you can ask everyone to use the same zoom baby shower background to make things even more fun.

Baby Shower Games

What is a baby shower without games? While most traditional baby shower games are off the list, there are still tons of other games you can play online.

If you are good with technology you can create “break out rooms” to separate the group into teams for competitive games.

[amazon-banner]

Here are some of our favorite virtual baby shower games:

  • “The Price Is Right”: guests have to guess the price of various baby items that you’re holding up to the camera, such as a bottle, a can of formula, a box of diapers, or a Drinking Buddies Twins Bib, and others.
  • “Name That Baby Tune”: you play different nursery rhymes or popular baby songs and the guests have to guess it as quick as possible
  • Who’s That Baby?: Ask all guests to email you photos of themselves as babies before the party. The guests have to guess who is who. Hint: arrange them into a simple PowerPoint Presentation

You can also check out some of the many websites that offer multiplayer games, such as Sketchful.io and JackBox Games.

Virtual Baby Shower Essentials

The Covid-19 pandemic shouldn’t stop from throwing an unforgettable virtual baby shower. In fact, there are quite a few perks to having an online baby shower: it’s significantly cheaper, all of the twin mom’s friends and family get to attend, and you are also social distancing while having the time of your lives.

There are a few essentials that you need to plan and source for the best virtual baby shower, including a virtual “venue”, digital or mail invitations, food, and decorations, and most importantly – baby shower games. Our advice will guarantee you a fun and memorable virtual baby shower.

Twin Pregnancy Belly: What to Expect Each Trimester and How to Be Comfortable

0
twin pregnancy belly

When you’re experiencing a singleton pregnancy you very well know what to expect and what’s the average size your belly will take. But with a twin pregnancy, you are thrown into the unknown regarding your twin pregnancy belly. Is it big enough for two, or is it too big for two? The questions start arising and the belly starts sizing.

There is no right or wrong answer, and whatever symptoms you are experiencing you should know that they are completely normal. That’s the beauty of twin pregnancy – it comes as a surprise and acts like one.

We are here to help you be in the know about what each week of your twin pregnancy will bring you, and most importantly, how to be comfortable with your twin pregnancy belly.

5 Weeks Pregnant with Twins

You’ve probably just learned that you’re pregnant with twins and are brimming with excitement. It’s likely that you’ve already had your first ultrasound and have seen the gestational sacs in the uterus which signifies that you’re having twins and it’s not a mere singleton pregnancy.

While it might seem that you are still very early in your twin pregnancy, you shouldn’t exclude the possibility of experiencing pregnancy symptoms. This can range from the well-known morning sickness and breast tenderness to drowsiness and frequent urination.

In order to ease the symptoms when 5 weeks pregnant with twins we recommend you to start eating healthy and avoid strenuous exercises in order to prevent a miscarriage or a vanishing twin syndrome

[amazon-banner]

This is also a great time to start your pregnancy journal. If you’re wondering what pregnancy diary to get that includes prompts and is fun to write in, we recommend you the Pearhead My Pregnancy Journal. It features 74 colorful pages with guided sections to help you document every special moment of your twin pregnancy journey.

While your babies might seem incredibly tiny right now, expect them to be double the size by the time you’re 6 weeks pregnant with twins. Moreover, the symptoms are likely to continue and can even become more prominent.

16 Week Ultrasound

At week 12 of your twin pregnancy, you’ve successfully ended the first trimester and have entered the second trimester. Luckily for you, your symptoms have eased, since they’re most acute during the first trimester.

twin pregnancy

But the second trimester brings about your twin’s belly, which we’re not going to lie about, is going to be bigger than during a singleton pregnancy. This is the time to invest in pregnancy clothing to ensure that you are comfortable at all times. Check out the Liu & Qu Maternity Women’s Casual Pants, which are super stretchy and soft and can be worn during all seasons.

The same brand offers an everyday Women’s Maternity Bodycon Ruched Side Dress that is both stylish and comfy. It also comes in a range of colors and patterns, so you can never be bored with your maternity wear. Lounge pants and a dress are the top maternity clothing essentials, so make sure you stock up on those.

Week 16 can be really exciting for many pregnant women because a lot of things are happening during this time. Your babies are getting bigger and bigger every single day. At 16 weeks pregnant with twins, your babies are going to be around 3.5 ounces in weight, and around four and a half inches long, about the size of an avocado!

With your growing belly in mind, you might want to invest in a high-quality maternity belt. We highly recommend you the AZMED Maternity Belt. It has so many benefits that we can’t imagine anyone going through their pregnancy without one: it supports your baby bump, reduces pregnancy pains, relieves lower back pain, and corrects poor posture. Go ahead and get yours asap.

During your week 16 ultrasound, you are also going to be able to hear your babies’ heartbeat for the first time ever during your 16 week ultrasound. Plus, if you’ve reached this stage the chances of miscarriage go down significantly.

Third Trimester Pregnant with Twins

At 26 weeks pregnant with twins your babies are finally starting to see and this is also marking the end of the second trimester.

Once you enter week 28 of your twin pregnancy, you’ve reached the third trimester of your pregnancy and that’s a great thing. While this is a definite achievement and you are totally anticipating the moment your babies are born, this is not the time to relax and you should pay very close attention to the development of your angels during the last weeks of your twin pregnancy.

surprise twins at birth.

This involves regular check-ups with your doctor and multiple tests. You are likely to be feeling anxious about going into preterm labor. It is common for twins to be born at 37 weeks, as opposed to 40 weeks for singletons, so there is nothing to be worried about. All you need for this is a pretty garden, a nice set-up for the guests and the rest is all about the food and decorations. Go for fresh fruit and sunflower centerpieces, white-covered guest tables so that the decorations can stand out, a fruit cake, fresh orange juice, and what else? Mojitos, of course! You can also look through some cute baby shower banners, such as the Oh Babies Banner in gold glitter – the perfect addition for pretty much all baby shower themes.

Go for the Classics: Two Peas in a Pod

You can never go wrong with the classic Two Peas in a Pod twin baby shower theme. The best thing is that you can get as creative as you wish with it!

They are printed on heavy-weight matte cardstock for easy fill-in with many types of pens and would complement the rest of the decorations very well.

Continue with the party set-up. This includes a green and polka dot color scheme that you can incorporate in the tableware, the shower banners, and even your twins’ outfits. Why not make a cake topped up with two peas in a pod ornament, or make little-themed cookies?

To make things even more adorable you can get this Grasslands Road Two Peas in a Pod Twins Frame and put up cute pictures of your twin girls for everyone to admire.

Every Girl’s Dream: Two Princesses

This one might sound a bit cliche to you, but let’s face it – every girl no matter how big or small wants to be a princess. So this twin girls baby shower idea is ideal for the girly trio you’re catering from – mom and girl twins. Plus, it’s super easy to execute and can be done on the cheap side of things, too.

All you will need is lots of pink: pink napkins, cupcakes, cutlery, decorations, you name it. Oh, and glitter. Some nice tiaras would also go very well with this theme.

If you want to go the extra mile, you can even set on one particular princess character and get a themed costume for the twin parent. This will definitely grab everyone’s attention, but it might be a bit over the top for some.

Playful Shower Theme: Best Friends

Your baby twins are not just siblings, but much more – best friends. So why don’t you go for a theme centered around this? This twin girls baby shower theme would perfectly suit a fun bunch of friends because there are countless baby shower games that will perfectly go with it.

In terms of decorations, you can have photos of best friends from famous TV shows hanging around or the twin parent’s best friends’ photos – this baby shower is also for the mom. Get some themed cupcakes and indulge in this celebration of friendship.

What will make this theme extra special is if you give the twin parent the Best Friends Matching Onesies by TwinStuff for her to put on her babies as soon as they’re out of the womb? We bet you that she wouldn’t be able to wait to see her angels in this very special gift!
