18 Weeks Pregnant with Twins: Ultrasound, Symptoms, and More

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 18 Weeks

At 18 weeks pregnant with twins you’re quickly approaching the mid point of your twinnies pregnancy, and I’m sure you’re growing fast.

As you start to show, expect more people to start mentioning it. If you’re the sort of person who thrives on attention, this can be an amazing time, but if you’re a little more reserved, it might be worth thinking up a way to deal with all this increased pressure.

Either way, you’re going to start putting on weight pretty quickly, if you haven’t already, so it might be worth taking some time out for your relationship, because it will only get more difficult in the coming months.

Your Twin Babies at 18 Weeks Pregnant

Some time in the next few weeks, you might feel a wonderful sensation for the first time. Your babies moving around inside your tummy.

They’ve been doing it for weeks, but now they’re getting big enough and strong enough that you’re starting to pick up on it. Pretty soon, it’ll be a regular occurrence, but right now, it’s going to feel unique, and so amazing!

18 weeks in, and your babies are around 5.5 inches long, and weigh anywhere between 5.5 and 6.5 ounces each, or the size of a large bell pepper!

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 18 Weeks

This week, and the coming weeks, will see things start to get a little, um, achy. As you and your babies grow in size, expect it to start taking a toll on your body. But you’ve come this far. We’re almost halfway already!

  • Backaches: As your babies get heavier and put more strain on your body and your back, expect this symptom to only get worse. Rest, gentle exercise, and as many long baths as you can get are on the menu!
  • Swelling extremities: With all that increased blood flow and pressure in your body, as well as all the extra fluids you’ve got, you can expect your hands and feet to swell up a little bit. As long as it’s steady, and you don’t wake up one morning with feet like a basketball player’s, it’s nothing to worry about. Just a little bit inconvenient.
  • Varicose veins: Another present from all the increased blood pressure. You deal with them like you would normal varicose veins. Keep yourself moving, sit with your legs elevated, and try to wear loose, comfy clothes when possible. Compression socks for varicose veins are also quite effective.
  • Nosebleeds: They’re only going to get more likely as the weeks go on. Increased blood pressure and weaker blood vessels in the nose mean pregnancy nosebleeds are a pretty common occurrence. Unfortunately. So keep a pack of tissues handy.
  • Your babies kicking: Finally, something good! Expect to start feeling your babies moving around in the next week or two!

18 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

If you’re having Di/Di twins who have their own amniotic sacs, watch out on your next scan. Because they’re moving so much, it’s actually possible for you to see the membranes that separate your twins shifting on the ultrasound as they stretch and move about in there.

You can also expect to see them moving around a lot more, now. Expect to see them rolling around, kicking out, even yawning  and sucking on their thumbs. It’s both incredible and adorable!

Things to Do This Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • It’s time to start thinking about sleeping on your side. Your babies are getting big enough to put pressure against the major blood vessels that run up your back, which can inhibit blood flow. This can easily be rectified, though, by rolling over and sleeping on your side, like we said. If you’re not used to it, sleeping on your side can be hard to get comfy with. We recommend a bunch of pillows, or a dedicated pregnancy pillow.
  • Decide if you want to find out your babies sexes. Talk it out with your partner, and see what you both think, because you’re getting to the point where you can start to find out the sexes of your babies with pretty high reliability.

17 Weeks Pregnant with Twins: Ultrasound, Symptoms, and More

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 17 Weeks

Does it seem real that you’re 17 weeks pregnant with twins? We’re closing hard on that halfway point, and for a lot of women, the sheer reality of the situation still might not have hit.

Having children is an amazing miracle, but it also changes our lives in huge ways. This week is a good week to consider a lot of these things, considering how low key it can be in terms of everything else.

Your Twin Babies at 17 Weeks Pregnant

Your babies are still growing incredibly quickly. They’re put on almost a quarter of their body weight since week 16, weight in now at around 5.8-6 ounces each. They’ve got taller, too. Around 5 inches long!

This week is the week where they start packing on the body fat. Up until now, your babies were skinny little things, just muscle and bone under transparent skin. But now they’re starting to put on body fat, which will end up with those delightfully chubby cheeks and soft bottoms we all love to kiss and snuggle.

Your baby’s heartbeat is fixed, now, and pumping at an amazing 150 beats per minute, which is twice as fast as yours, if not more!

Finally, in the next few weeks, your babies will form their own unique fingerprints, as they place their hands against the inside wall of your uterus. Amazing, right!

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 17 Weeks

Because your babies are piling on the size, everything that you’re going to experience in the next few weeks is probably going to be related. Things like:

  • Increased weight gain: Because your babies are getting bigger, you’re going to get bigger too. It’s completely normal to have put on a little bit of weight so far, but expect to get a lot bigger a lot faster in the next few weeks. 1 or 2 pounds is normal, but because you’re carrying twins, expect to be near the top end of the scales!
  • Itching belly and boobs: You’re getting bigger fast, and your skin is stretching and growing to accommodate. Obviously it’s going to be more sensitive, right? Don’t scratch though. A side effect of it being stretched out is that it’s thinner and more prone to harm. Instead, grab a soothing crème from the local chemists.
  • Stretch marks: You knew this was coming, and considering what we’ve been talking about, it’s only natural. As the proud mother of twins to be, you’re going to be bigger than a lot of moms who only had to carry the one child, so expect your weight gain, and therefore stretch marks, to be a little bit worse than theirs. Massages and moisturiser really help, so take some time to relax and get hands on, or even ask your partner…
  • More body fluids: Your heart is pumping more blood throughout your body, and you’re overloaded with hormones. This leads to more bodily fluids being produced. Yeah, we know it’s gross, but you’re going to have to get used to it.

17 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

If you’re having a cordocentesis test, you could be having an ultrasound this week.

If you don’t already know, a cordocentesis, or percutaneous umbilical cord blood sample (PUBS) is a test performed when amnios and other genetic disorder tests aren’t quite conclusive enough.

Things to Do This Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • As you start to show and get a little bigger, your centre of gravity and the pressure on your legs and hips will increase. Take a few precautions to keep you and your baby safe, like low heeled or flat shoes, and being careful around stairs.
  • If you wear prescription contact lenses are you’re suffering from dry eyes, talk to your optician. You might have to start wearing them a little less, or even rely on glasses for the mean time.
  • You might start having weird dreams. This is completely normal, and also pretty strange. As you get further into your pregnancy, you’ll spend less and less time in REM sleep, which is when you normally dream. But you’ll have more and more vivid dreams, and they’ll come more frequently too! As with most things, we recommend popping them down into a notebook, so you can see if there’s a theme running through it all. Plus, you can have a laugh discussing them with friends and family. If they aren’t too risqué, that is!

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 16 Weeks

You’re 16 weeks pregnant with twins already! Week 16 can be really exciting for a lot of moms to be. There’s so much that could happen this week, that it’s amazing you’ll find time to pack it all in.

Read on to find out what’s going to occur this week, and how you’re going to love it!

Your Twin Babies at 16 Weeks Pregnant

Your babies are getting so much bigger all the time. 16 weeks in, your babies are going to be around   3.5 ounces in weight, and around four and a half inches long, about the size of an avocado!

Your babies are more aware of the world than ever, too. For starters, their eyes will have started working by now, moving under their eyelids and picking up on light. They’re actually sensitive enough that moving into areas of bright light, or say, shining a torch against your belly, can cause them to move and react to it!

It’s not just sight that’s kicking into high gear either. The tiny little bones that allow us to hear have finally fully grown, so your babies can hear the outside world in faint echoes, and definitely hear your voice.

If you’ve ever wondered how your babies already know your voice when they’re born, there’s your reason. Studies also show that babies can hear songs inside the womb, and they’ll actually recognise the very same song once they’re born, so when you’re singing in the shower, pick your songs with care!

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 16 Weeks

Week 16 is a great week for most women, with a bunch of good symptoms now that your body is finally calming down. Even the bad symptoms are relatively minor, too. Here’s what you’ll be facing this week:

  • Bigger boobs: Your boobs are getting bigger, and you might have even had to step up to a bigger bra. Don’t be fooled though. Your breasts won’t stop making the changes you need for breastfeeding until about the 24th week.
  • Backache: Your growing uterus, increased weight and pressure your nerves can cause backaches, as can hormonal changes. Make some time for light exercise, stretch a little bit, and try not to stay in one place for long periods of time. So if you work in an office, get up every so often, even just to stretch.
  • Constipation: Increased pressure on your intestines, coupled with hormones, can cause bathroom time to get a little difficult. Make sure to keep hydrated, and if it gets bad, talk to your doctor.
  • Sensitive or itching eyes: Aren’t pregnancy hormones fun! This probably won’t be bad enough to need treatment, but if you get itchy or dry eyes, now you know why. Just be careful if you wear contact lenses or regularly use eye drops
  • Forgetfulness: It’s called pregnancy brain, and although your brain doesn’t change during pregnancy, it’s a completely recognised thing. Notebooks and your smartphone will soon be your best friend.
  • The pregnancy glow: Get used to people telling you you’re looking radiant, with glowing skin and shiny, healthy looking hair.

16 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

You’re probably getting close to your monthly prenatal visit, so expect the standard array of tests. But you can also expect to hear your twin’s heartbeats this time if you haven’t already, because they’re guaranteed to have finally started beating of their own accord!

You should be looking forward to this scan, though. If everything shows up normal here, your chances of miscarriage go way down. To literally 1% with singletons, and only a few percent with twins. And that’s awesome!

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 15 Weeks

15 weeks pregnant with twins. You should be feeling good for the next few weeks. You’re in the middle of the honeymoon pregnancy period, after all. Even though you’re pregnant with twins and your symptoms have probably been worse, they should be letting off by now, and if they aren’t it won’t be much longer.

So take advantage of all this great feeling. Spend a little more time with your partner, and do what comes naturally.

Your Twin Babies at 15 Weeks Pregnant

Right now your babies are getting bigger much faster than they have been. A singleton would be around 4 inches long right now, and weigh around 2.5 ounces. Obviously, expect twinnies to be slightly smaller and lighter, but you can still expect them to be around the size of an orange, or a medium sized apple.

They’re also starting to look a whole lot more like they will when they’re finally born. Their ears will have finished their journey from where they began on the neck, and the eyes will have finished moving from the sides of the head to the front.

They’re also going to be running their own exercise routines inside your tummy, moving every limb near constantly, twisting and writhing all over the place, practising movements and growing muscular strength for later in life.

As well as moving around, your babies eyes are developed enough that they’re fully capable of sensing light, even though their eyelids are still completely closed, and they’re also busy breathing into their little tiny noses, even though all they’re actually breathing is amniotic fluid. This helps their little lungs develop, getting them ready for the big day.

Don’t leave your baby shopping too late. Check out our newborn twins shopping list here.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 15 Weeks

This should be a great period for you. The symptoms that you should be having will be minor, and the potential upsides are actually really sweet for a lot of women. We’ll start with the bad, and move on to the good.

  • Indigestion, heartburn and gas: Your hormones are still playing merry havoc on your digestive system. Certain foods can still be causing issues, so pay close attention to what you’re putting into your system. And if you’re having constant issues, it might be worth seeing your doctor and asking if there’s anything you can take to make it better.
  • Nosebleeds: As a proud mom of twins to be, your body is busy producing far more blood to keep them supplied with everything your babies need. But this raises your blood pressure, and in the coming weeks, you can expect to have more a more sensitive nasal area. This can lead to the lovely symptom known as rhinitis of pregnancy. Or, you know, pregnancy nosebleeds.
  • Swollen or bleeding gums: You can also thank your hormones for his, too. In this case, all those hormones are reacting with the bacteria that naturally live in your mouth, and cause a bizarre reaction that can trigger gingivitis. You might also notice tiny little bumps on your gums. These are scarily named pregnancy tumors, and even though they’ve got an awful name, they’re actually completely painless and harmless. But make sure that you look after your actual teeth. If you’re like me, sometimes you can forget to floss every so often, but make sure that you’re on point right now. If you don’t keep your teeth clean, that gingivitis can progress to periodontis, or infected gums, which has actually been linked to preeclampsia and premature labor! So follow a good dental care routine, brush twice a day, use mouthwash and floss.
  • Running out of breath: Your babies getting bigger comes with a couple of downsides. The first is the increased blood flow and the symptoms that come along with that, which we’ve already discussed. But there’s also this. Shortness of breath. It’s actually nothing to do with increased weight or lack of fitness. It’s really because your babies are taking up a lot of space in your torso, which can actually prevent your lungs from expanding to their full capacity.
  • Increased sex drive: This is the good benefit we mentioned earlier. You should be feeling a whole lot better in the coming weeks, and you might find your sex drive coming right back with a vengeance. As long as your doctor hasn’t specifically ruled out sexual activity, you should be good to get right back to it! So let loose and enjoy yourself!

15 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

There’s a lot of tests that you might have chosen so you can check on the health of your babies, and if you did, they’ll be coming up soon.

First off, you might have chosen to have a multiple marker screen (MMS,) which is a blood test that screens you for several issues.

But you might also have chosen to get an amniocentesis test, which requires an ultrasound. You’re more likely to have chosen to take this test if you or your partner have some form of genetic disorder, or your baby is particularly at risk of genetic disorders. Whilst there’s a very small chance of complications, for most people the benefits far outweigh the risks, so don’t worry, and talk to your medical practitioner about the issues you might face.

Things to Do This Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • If you’re having an amnio or MMS, make sure you’ve got it scheduled and written down somewhere that you don’t forget it.
  • You’re probably feeling much better than you have been the last few weeks, so take this chance to enjoy yourself!

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 14 Weeks

You’re 14 weeks pregnant with twins, so you’ve already faced more than most women in your situation. But now you’re entering the honeymoon phase of your multiple pregnancy.

For the next few weeks, everything’s going to be a whole lot easier, so now’s the time to get all the important stuff done.

Second Trimester with Twins: Your Twin Babies at 14 Weeks Pregnant

Your babies are packing on their weight. Around 3.4 inches long and weighing twice as much as week 13, you can expect them to be around 1.5 ounces at maximum. They’re about the size of a large peach right now, or a small clenched fist.

Fully developed, your babies are getting stronger every day. Their muscles and bones are developed enough that movements are controlled and fluid, and they’re now capable of holding their heads up and moving around with defined movements, rather than the slightly jerky, uncontrolled movements we were seeing even a couple of weeks back.

Your babies also have another strange little quirk. Right now, they’re all covered in hair, like little chimps. It’s called lanugo, and it’s a full body, downy coating of hair that’s there to keep them warm.

But don’t worry, it’s going to be gone by the time they’re born, unless they’re born really premature.

If you could see them in there, you might also notice that they’re making funny faces. That’s because their brains are making sure that all the muscles work, and that includes the face. So from grimaces to smiles, they’re going to be practising them all.

Lastly, the kidneys have kicked in and started filtering blood, which means that your babies are going to start passing urine, which they’ll keep doing until they’re finally born.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 14 Weeks

Whilst you might still be suffering from some of the early twin pregnancy symptoms, with any luck they’re going to be fading fast. With that in mind, here’s what you can expect to see in the next few days.

  • Increased appetite: Your babies are growing. Incredibly quickly. It’s already recommended that expecting moms eat more calories, but for a mom to be of twins, it’s doubly important that you make sure you’re eating right and packing the calories in. You should be looking to get another 600 to 700 extra calories per day over your normal, otherwise you literally might not be getting enough calories to feed your twins!
  • Round ligament pain: Yep. It’s still here. Some women might have has this fade away by now as their body acclimates. But since we’re carrying twins here, it’s unlikely. Expect this to carry on a little while longer yet.
  • Better looking hair: Strangely enough, you can expect thicker, shinier, much better looking hair at this point, and for most of your pregnancy. That’s because all of the hormones in your body actually interrupt the normal hair growing cycle, but in a good way. It’s a welcome change.
  • More energy: You might not even actually have more energy. It’s just that as all of the nastiness of the last few weeks fades away, you go back to being more normal again. Time to celebrate!

14 Weeks Twin Ultrasound

If you haven’t had an ultrasound by now, you probably should, so contact your doctor and get yourself booked in.

We’d always recommend regular check ups, just to make sure that everything’s going on correctly. After all, unfortunately with twins, there’s so much more than can become an issue, so you need to make sure everything’s going on fine in there.

Things to Do This Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • Look at changing your diet. Because your babies are more active and their muscles are developing fast, they might need more protein. Lean meats, nuts and beans are excellent sources of protein for you. You might also want more fibre, especially if you’re eating more protein, so pick up more leafy vegetables and fruits.
  • If you’re not already exercising, now is an ideal time to start. Look for a prenatal exercise class, or failing that, start your own gentle exercise routine. Swimming is a great choice. It’s full body, relatively light, and you can do it whenever you want.
  • Round about now is normally a good time to announce your pregnancy to anyone who hasn’t already realised. You’re going to start showing heavily in the next few weeks, and it’s always a lot more fun to do it on your own terms.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 13 Weeks

13 weeks pregnant with twins already! It’s amazing that we’ve come so far, and we’re already in the second trimester. Hopefully you’re doing well, and the first trimester didn’t hit you that hard.

Thankfully, things are going to be looking up for the next few weeks. You’re a third of the way through your pregnancy, so lets find out what’s happening with your babies right now.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 13 Weeks

Your Twin Babies at 13 Weeks Pregnant

This far along, your babies are growing fast. A singleton would be around the size of a lemon or nectarine right now, almost 3 inches long and close to an ounce in weight. Generally around 0.8 ounces.

Twins are normally a little smaller than that, but not by much. And that doesn’t change the fact that they’re going to be pretty much fully developed now in terms of internal organs, facial features, and even hair and teeth!

In terms of size, there’s another major thing that’s happened. Their head is now only a third of their body by size, rather than the half and half that it was a week or two ago.

Incredibly, your babies also have fingerprints by now! And because you’re having twins, they’re going to have different fingerprints, too! This is because our fingerprints are mostly determined by our fingers being pressed against the interior wall of the uterus when they’re still soft and tiny.

With all the increased mobility, your babies are able to touch their own faces now, and if they’re in the same sac, each other. You might see your babies putting their thumbs in their mouths now.

This week is also the week where your baby starts to grow their vocal chords, that first step towards crying all night. And telling you they love you.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 13 Weeks

The second trimester is supposedly the easiest of the three, so you’ve got good things coming. Hopefully, the worst of the first trimester symptoms have faded, and you’re left feeling pretty good.

That’s not to say that the second trimester doesn’t come with its own challenges. But that they’re going to pale in comparison compared to what you’ve already dealt with. You’ve got this, girls!

  • More visible veins: With the increased blood flow needs of your babies, and their placentas developing nicely, you’re going to notice more veins under your skin, and they’re going to look darker and even more blue.
  • More energy: Supposedly, the second trimester is the one where you’ll feel the best. I mean, it makes sense, because your body has finished the changes it needs to accommodate a baby or two, and they’re still tiny enough to carry without issue. So you could start feeling pretty great right about now.
  • Higher sex drive: If you find yourself feeling up for a bit of naughtiness in the coming weeks, then feel free to indulge. Especially if sex has been off the menu for a few weeks. It’s normal to keep spotting after sex for the next few weeks, so don’t worry if you see a little bit of blood. It’s only something to worry about if it’s as heavy as a period.

13 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

Twins are normally visible at the 12th or 13th week scan, but the sex of your babies might not be. Whilst it’s possible that you can tell the sex of a fetus at this age, it’s unlikely, so you’re probably going to have to wait until around the 20th week.

So if you’re itching to find out what you’re having, we’re sorry. You’re gonna have to wait a little bit longer.

Things to Do This Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

You’re probably going to start feeling pretty great soon, especially compared to how you have felt the last few weeks. So make sure you take advantage of it, and get as much done as you can!

  • If you haven’t already, let your boss know that you’re pregnant. The earlier you do this, the better, as it allows you and them to start making preparations.
  • If you’ve let the fitness slack, now’s a great time to get back into it. With all the energy you’re going to have, starting a light exercise routine can be a huge boost to how you’re feeling. Try out swimming, gentle yoga or pilates, or some breathing and zen exercises.
  • Make sure you keep looking after yourself correctly. If you’ve been feeling pretty bad and suddenly feel amazing again, it’s easy to let yourself get a bit slack. So keep eating healthy and getting as much rest as you can.
  • A lot of women say that their sex drive increases in the second trimester. I mean, it’s understandable. You’ve been feeling pretty crappy these past few weeks, and your hormones are all over the place. So take advantage!

If they haven’t already, your veins will soon be under a lot of extra pressure. To avoid and minimize varicose veins and swelling in the ankles and feet, it’s a great idea to wear compression socks. And don’t worry, they don’t all look terrible. These look nice and come highly recommended.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 12 Weeks

You’re 12 weeks pregnant with twins. You’ve hit the last week of the first trimester. That means from here, things get easier. (For a while, at least!)

You can expect all those horrendous symptoms to start slowing down and dropping off as you get through the next couple of weeks, and you might even see an increase in your energy levels.

But your babies are also growing incredibly fast. So read on to find out what’s going to happen this week, and what to expect.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 12 Weeks

Your babies are about the size of a plum right now. They’re around two inches long, and weigh around half an ounce. Incredibly, your baby has doubled in size in just three weeks, which is amazing!

At 12 weeks, your babies should have finished developing all of their internal organs, making them perfectly complete little people. Which means that now, all they need to do is keep on growing as fast as they can.

Week 12 is normally around where your babies digestive system starts working. It won’t have anything to process, but the muscles that make up their tummy and intestines start to flex and contract. A perfectly normal autonomous reaction that we all do without thinking, that sends our digesting food through our bodies.

Because they’ve got bones now, your baby is also starting to produce their own white blood cells, ready to keep their immune system strong.

The biggest thing that’s going to happen this week though? Independent nervous systems start to kick in, and your babies will develop their own sets of reflexes. They actually start to move in response to outside influences, like you poking yourself in the tummy. You’re still not going to be able to feel it yet, though.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 12 Weeks

If you’ve been suffering from heavy symptoms, there’s good news. All the morning sickness and fatigue that’s been plaguing should start calming down right now.

Of course, they’re going to be replaced with other issues, but that’s something we can deal with when we get to it

  • Vaginal discharge: Expect more discharge as you go through the coming weeks. It’s a safety barrier against vaginal infection, and completely natural, as long as it’s relatively clear. If you have oddly colored, thick, yellow, green, red or brown discharge, make sure you speak to your doctor as soon as you can, because these could be a sign of infection or other problems.
  • Spotting: You might have been spotting for the last few weeks, and it’s probably nothing to worry about, as long as it’s light. Expect spotting after sex, so if that’s the reason, then relax, but if you’re regularly spotting, or it’s particularly heavy, then make sure you contact your doctor.
  • Headaches: These are going to get worse in the next few weeks, and can be caused by multiple issues, including blood sugar, lack of sleep, dehydration, or the ever popular hormones. If you’re suffering, then start a headache journal, and try to work out the causes.
  • Dizziness: Blood pressure and hormones can cause dizziness and lightheadedness at around the 12 week and beyond. If it keeps happening, make sure you’re keeping your blood sugar up, drinking enough water, and sit or lie down if you have to.

Twin Ultrasound at 12 Weeks

A baby at 12 weeks is basically fully developed, and now just has to grow. That means if you have an ultrasound, they’re going to look recognisably like a person.

You’d also be surprised with how much your babies are going to be moving around at 12 weeks. Not only are they going to be flexing limbs and opening and closing their hands, your babies are also going to be making big movements like stretching out their full length.

It’s possible that you could tell whether you’re having a boy or girl this early on, but it’s unlikely. You’re probably going to have to wait another few weeks, for example, at your mid pregnancy scan at week 20.

Things to Do This Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • Heartburn, dizziness and headaches. Expect all of them, and do what you can to deal with them, including drinking more water and getting as much rest as possible.
  • Don’t worry about vaginal discharge unless it’s particularly thick or oddly colored. Grab some panty liners and perhaps invest in some pregnancy panties that you don’t mind ruining.
  • Try and stay fit and healthy. You should have a bit more energy in the coming weeks, so starting a light exercise routine, like gentle yoga or swimming, is a great idea.
  • If you (and your partner) been suffering from your lack of sex drive, then things are looking up. A lot of women who see their sex drive drop in the first trimester say it comes back in the second. With a vengeance. So start planning. And crack out something sexy. You deserve it.

11 Weeks Pregnant with Twins: Ultrasound, Symptoms, and More

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 11 Weeks

You’re 11 weeks pregnant with twins! You’ve made it through the rough patch. Pretty soon, everything’s going to start getting so much better.

Your morning sickness will drop off, you’ll have a bit more energy, and after that, your babies will have grown big enough for you to feel them flexing and kicking.

Exciting times are coming. All you’ve got to do is make it a couple more weeks. But what about this week?

Your Twin Babies at 11 Weeks Pregnant

Baby’s growing super fast now. They’re about the size of a lime! Almost 1.6 inches long, and they probably weight a quarter of an ounce.

Bear in mind, if you’re having twins, they’re probably going to be a little smaller than this. That’s completely normal, and not something to worry about.

Whilst you can’t tell gender from the outside yet, boys will be producing testosterone, and girls will actually have tiny little ovaries already.

Hair follicles are definitely forming now, starting with the crown of the head and spreading over the rest of their tiny bodies. You’re also starting to see finger and toenail beds, if not finger and toenails themselves.

Your baby also has a diaphragm now, which can cause them to do what’s possible the cutest thing in the whole world. Tiny little hiccups!

Because of their developing muscles and bones, your growing treasures are starting to become little acrobats in there, doing flips and curls, as well as regularly straightening out and curling up on themselves.

You won’t be able to feel any movements for several weeks, at least, but it’s all completely visible on scans.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 11 Weeks

Only a couple of weeks to go before you’re out of the first trimester. It’s normal for your body to settle down at around that point, so it’s fair to say you’ve probably only got a week or two or this struggle left.

  • Tiredness and fatigue: Your whole body is changing, and you’re absolutely exhausted. But you’re getting there. Only another couple of weeks, so get as much rest as you can and power through it. It gets better. Promise.
  • Nausea: Some women are still getting morning sickness this late, and other women simply feel nauseous and ill all the time. Either way, it should start abating soon, so keep doing what you’ve been doing.
  • Mood swings: You’ve still got the same hormonal issues, so do what you can to relax. If you haven’t already, get some ‘me time’ and maybe try something relaxing, like yoga or meditation.
  • Cramps: You can still be getting uterine and round ligament cramps, but another plague might strike, which is leg cramps! They’re more likely to hit you at night, as you’re resting, and can make it hard to sleep, so make sure to drink lots of water and stay hydrated to stave it off as much as you can.
  • Heartburn and constipation: When morning sickness ends, you can have these lovely symptoms to look forward to. It’s still hormonal in cause, and the best way to deal with it is the same as others. Healthy eating and lots of rest.
  • Gas and bloating: This is all to do with progesterone. It makes smooth muscle tissues in your body relax, so that all the changes run much smoother, but it also causes your stomach and intestines to slow down digestion, which in turn causes an uncomfortable fullness after eating and more unpleasant gas. Calm it down by eating smaller meals more often, and not eating anything that you know causes you issues.
  • Vaginal discharge: Increasing levels of hormones like estrogen are going to make discharge a growing problem as you go through a twin pregnancy, so it might be worth grabbing some panty liners, as well as cracking out the old undies!
  • Linea nigra: Or the dark skin line. You’re going to wake up one morning with a dark line running straight down your belly, over your navel. It’s completely normal, and it’s a hormonal change that causes increased skin pigmentation. It’ll fade after you give birth, but might stick around a little while longer if you breastfeed. Either way, it’s absolutely nothing to worry about.

11 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

It’s normal to undergo a first trimester blood screening test at around the 11th or 12 week.

Expect this to be an ultrasound as well as a blood test, plus things like a nuchal transparency test to check for genetic abnormalities like Down’s syndrome.

This test will also show you whether your twins have one placenta or two, which is where you’re going to find out whether you’re having identical or fraternal twins! So it’s an exciting time!

This is also the time that your doctor will find out whether your twins are going to have any pregnancy issues, for example, if they’re mono mono.

Things to Do This Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • Relax. Once you’ve had your scan and heard the heartbeats of your twins, the chances of miscarriage drop massively. You’ve made it through the risk period, and hopefully everything should go smoothly from here.
  • You’re probably exhausted, because your body is in overdrive forming your babies placentas and making all the necessary changes for the coming weeks. The good thing is that once you hit the second trimester, all of this should change and it’ll get easier. (At least for a few weeks.) So relax as much as possible, keep eating healthy, and exercise if you feel up to it.

Things to Do This Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

Ten weeks in and wondering what to expect?

Week ten is where it’s normal for women to start showing. Of course, considering you’re probably having twins if you’re here with us, you might have started showing even earlier.

Either way, this week is a good week to look back at where we’ve come from, and look at where we’re going. After all, you’re 10 weeks pregnant with twins! How exciting is that!

Your Twin Babies at 10 Weeks Pregnant

Your babies have only got a little bit longer, growing from an inch in week 9, to around an inch and a quarter this week. But their weight has doubled, to 0.14 ounces. (We told you they’d grow fast.)

Your babies are in the fetal period now, or the time when they’ve finished developing all the essential organs, and it’s time to start growing.

They’re moving around a whole lot still, and now their limbs can bend, with hands that move at the wrist, and they might even have long and flexible enough legs that they can bring their feet together in front of them.

This is because your babies have started growing bones and cartilage. Under the gums, the same process is also forming teeth, ready for them to come through in around a year’s time.

If you could get in close, you’d also see the most adorable things forming, like tiny little finger and toenails, as well as light hair growth.

If you’re having a boy, they’ve also started producing testosterone already, which will already be making changes to their body.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 10 Weeks

You’re still in the period where pregnancy hormones are high and your body is making changes, so don’t expect this wild ride to end yet. On the upside, by the time you hit week 12, most of the symptoms below will have calmed right down, if not abated completely.

  • Morning sickness: Yeah. You can still be suffering from morning sickness at week 10. Just keep following our guide, and you’ll make it through.
  • Ligament aches and pains: Your abdomen is going to be making some changes to accommodate your growing babies, and your uterus is still stretching. Whilst some moms are lucky enough to not have to deal with this, others, especially first time moms, can find this sensation, called ’round ligament pain,’ well, painful. If it’s causing you problems, then make sure you talk to your doctor about what you can do.
  • Fatigue: With all the changes ravaging through your body, it’s only natural to be tired. Get as much rest as you can, and take it easy. You’re pregnant with twins. You deserve it.
  • Mood swings: With hormones at peak levels, your emotions can be a see-saw. Just make sure you warn your friends and family if you’re having a bad day.
  • Vaginal discharge: This is completely normal, if a little bit nasty. It’s a natural process, which your body uses to flush bacteria out of your system, and it’s caused by all the estrogen in your body, coupled with a higher blood flow to the area.
  • More and more visible veins: You’ve got more blood in your body than you’ve ever had before, so it’s only natural that your veins get more prominent.

10 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

We’re in the middle of the first and second prenatal scans, so a 10 week ultrasound isn’t usual, but it can happen. Expect the same sort of things that you’d see at a primary prenatal scan.

Things to Do This Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • The critical period of pregnancy is over. The first eight to ten weeks are the time when your developing babies are most vulnerable to outside influences, stress and disease, so you can relax a little. If your babies are fine by now, they’re probably going to be fine all the way along.
  • If you’re getting an NT (nuchal translucency) scan for your babies to check for things like Down’s syndrome, now is the time it needs to get done, so make sure you talk to your healthcare provider about options and when it needs to be done.
  • You might have got a little bigger, and your body is changing, so now’s the time to indulge yourself and go out shopping. Don’t go crazy, because there’s much bigger changes to come, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with buying yourself a few comfy essentials to wear around the house, and one or two things to treat yourself. Pick up some pregnancy shoes to prepare for the swelling to come.
  • On the subject of money, it’s good to sit back and work out your finances. Kids are expensive. Twins doubly so. If you haven’t started saving already, now is an excellent time to think about putting away a little bit of money.

9 Weeks Pregnant with Twins: Ultrasound, Symptoms, and More

7
Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 9 Weeks

You’re nine weeks pregnant with twins. Nine weeks in, and probably starting to put on a little bit of weight.

That’s completely normal, and something that happens when you’re 9 weeks pregnant with twins. Expect to be putting on around 5 or 6 pounds by the time you’ve finished the first trimester.

Still, there’s a lot more to pay attention to than just your weight. Your babies are developing enough that they’re moving from the embryo to the fetus stage. Read on to find out what that means.

Your Twin Babies at 9 Weeks Pregnant

Your babies are right at the end of the embryo stage. Right now, they’re recognisably little people, about the size of an olive or grape, and they’re getting to be far more fully developed.

Ears and toes are growing and getting defined, eyes are fully formed, with shut eyelids over the top of them, with a little mouth and nose as well.

All of the internal organs are in place and developing well, and their little heart is fully formed, with all four chambers. Tiny little teeth are also starting to form in their mouth, ready to come out later, with all the fun of teething!

Right now, they’re almost an inch long, and almost twice as heavy, at 0.07 ounces. Expect that to climb rapidly, now that they’re mostly developed and the placenta is pretty much complete.

Twin Pregnancy Symptoms at 9 Weeks

At 9 weeks in, the pregnancy hormones are at their highest levels. That means that this week is going to be punctuated with the highest levels of your pregnancy symptoms.

That means that this week might be the worst one yet. But on the upside, from next week, everything should start to slowly get better as your hormone levels normalise and everything gets a lot more stable.

  • Mood swings and emotional instability: You’ve gone through a lot these last few weeks, and everything being the worst its going to be this week isn’t going to help. So take it easy if you can. It’s fine to have a nap every now and then, and if you’re suffering from exhaustion or the morning sickness is acting up, it’s completely fine to ask for help. On that note.
  • Morning sickness: Three quarters of women suffer from morning sickness, and having twins makes the whole rigmarole that much worse. On the upside, like we just said, this is the peak level of hCG hormone, so hopefully your morning sickness is going to start getting better as of next week. Hold on, loves.
  • Fatigue: Your body is working double time to get everything ready and provide for your twins, so it’s only natural to have ebbing energy levels. All of the other things you’re dealing with are going to add to this, so do what you can to look after yourself, including getting early nights and eating as well as you can.
  • Congestion: In week 8 you were drooling everywhere. This week you’re producing more nasal mucus, so you’re permanently walking around feeling stuffed up like you’ve got the flu. Expect this to go pretty fast, though.
  • Needing to pee more often: All the activity going on down there is going to cause you to need to pee far more often. The increased blood flow and uterine changes, as well as the fact that you should be drinking a lot more, are going to keep you going to the loo all day long.

9 Weeks Ultrasound Twins

If you’re getting an ultrasound at the ninth week, you’re going to be able to hear your twin’s heartbeats. Incredibly, they’re going to be beating twice as fast as yours, or around 130 beats per minute.

Things to Do This Week for a Healthy Pregnancy

  • This early on, having sex is still absolutely fine, but be on the lookout for any strange discharge in the hours afterwards. If it’s dark or brown, stop having sex and talk to your doctor.
  • Check your diet. If you’re going to suffer from morning sickness, it’s going to be now, so take it easy on the spices, fats and sugars. Try and snack as much as possible, and make sure you eat and drink little and often. You can’t afford to not eat at this vital time.
  • Grab yourself a maternity bra. You might have gone up by anywhere up to a cup size, and trust us, you’ll appreciate it later.
  • Whilst you might have gained weight so far, this week you might actually lose a pound or two. That’s completely normal, but if you lose more, then make sure you talk to your doctor.
