Once you find out you’ll be a parent, you want to know everything: will it be a girl? A boy? Could they be twins? Will I be able to put these super cute onesies on them? You will ask yourself lots of questions, and worst of all, you will not have the answers right away. And we get it: not being sure of what will come can be a bit distressing, especially if you are someone who loves to have everything well planned.

Fortunately, you stepped into this article… Congratulations! Here you’ll find many answers to your questions although, to tell the truth, your doubts will only be resolved when you have your first ultrasound in your first prenatal, which you can do in week 8 of pregnancy to have a result that can be considered reliable.

Is the 8-week Ultrasound the Best Way to Know if You’re Having Twins?

Plain and simple: Yes. Ultrasound is the best way to find out if you will be the mother of one child, twins or if it will be multiple births. You can do it on week 8 or a few weeks later to be more certain, depending on how much you can handle curiosity. Is it infallible? No. There have been cases where one embryo covers the other and it is impossible to see more than one. But that is exceptional. Normally, the doctor will be able to give you definitive information.

Anyways, you shouldn’t worry. It’s not that you’ll find out the day of delivery. This test shows the DNA of your babies but, as it shows results from both children, it is not 100% reliable.

If NIPT indicates the presence of a Y chromosome, be prepared to be the father of at least one baby boy. If no Y chromosome appears, you will almost certainly have two girls. However, an ultrasound will be necessary a few weeks later to be assured.

It is usually done at the 12 or 13 weeks of pregnancy, but is it decisive? You must bear in mind that ultrasounds give visible results to the eye; If a leg covers the sex of a baby or its little brother covers it, it doesn’t matter how hard you try to see from any angle, it is impossible to determine the sex.

Nursery planning can go from fun to overwhelming in the blink of an eye. Just remember—all you really need is a place for your babies to sleep and some diapers. You don’t need more square footage or an interior designer to create the nursery of your dreams. A little creativity and a big dollop of love and personality go a long way! Here are some things to think of as you design your twin nursery.

Tip #1: Finish Your Twin Nursery in the Second Trimester

During your first trimester, you’re probably tired and maybe even sick. But by your third trimester, you’re probably getting a little uncomfortable. This means it’s extremely important to have two cribs, one for each twin. You’ll want one anyways once your babies start rolling around their crib all night long!
